My Scales Can Make Equivalent Exchange-Chapter 19 - Searching at Night
Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Searching at Night
Chapter 19 -19: Searching at Night
Standing in the courtyard and looking into the house, the doors to the rooms such as the hall and bedroom were surprisingly open.
The noise was emanating from the bedroom.
Wang Zijia quietly neared, finally managing to clearly see the situation inside the room, upon which a chill swept through his heart.
In the bedroom, a humanoid creature was lying on the bed, holding a human head in its hands, relentlessly gnawing at it. The head had been almost entirely eaten, leaving only a blood-red skull, hence the crunching sound.
The bedroom, the ground, fresh blood, internal organs, and bones were scattered everywhere, resembling a scene from the Asura battlefield. Judging from the skeletons and clothes, it seems it was a mother and her child.
Wang Zijia visualized a picture in his mind, a harmonious family of three living in peace and warmth.
Starting from yesterday, the husband began to act strange, unnoticed by anyone in his family. Until tonight, he completely turned mad, transformed into a fierce ghost and killed his sleeping wife and child.
‘How vicious can the fiend’s methods get!’
As Wang Zijia sighed internally, he held his Dagger, turned into a ghostly silhouette, and charged towards his target.
‘Dragoon Eleven Slash: Heartfelt Strike!’
He transformed into a stream of light, skillfully stabbing into his opponent’s heart from behind, with the dagger hilt deep inside.
“Roar!”
The nearly inhuman monster suddenly stiffened, followed by a roar.
“Not good!”
Wang Zijia’s face changed, his left hand quickly grasping the dagger, slashing towards the creature’s neck.
“Plop!”
The True Qi shot out, a ray of cold light flashed past, and the monster’s skull flew off, with a fountain of blood shooting from its neck.
Wang Zijia stepped back to avoid the blood splatter.
‘Just a postnatal martial artist level’s physical strength, yet its vitality is abnormally strong, not even a shattered heart is fatal!’
Looking at the soft body that collapsed, Wang Zijia’s eyebrows furrowed. He didn’t have time to linger, promptly checking the corpse of the deceased. In a moment, a twisted ghost face appeared on the monster’s chest.
What made Wang Zijia even more startled was, beside the ghost face, two small new faces emerged.
“As expected, this kind of pollution has growth and contagiousness, no wonder the Law Enforcement Team is so tense and concerned.”
During the train of thought, Wang Zijia directly stretched out a hand, taking in the pollution on his own initiative.
Weights: Cursed Evil Seed
Status: In pollution
Value: 74
Description: ······
Looking at the newly born blood-red weight, Wang Zijia’s face lit up, once again converting it into Technique Value.
Technique: Talisman Paper Making Technique (expert 280/500)
He planned to rapidly exchange the technique to minor accomplishment or even great mastery, to make a profit.
As for cultivation, since you can drink the potion, it would be much easier.
The talisman card production at the stage of great mastery, with a success rate of over 90%, would nearly double the profit, reaching nearly 100% profit, which would already be an extremely good business.
······
After settling everything, Wang Zijia rapidly checked the area.
“Clunk Clunk!”
Listening to the rapidly closing sounds from the streets outside, Wang Zijia didn’t linger, leaping out of the window, quietly jumped out of the backyard, disappearing into the dark alley.
“Bang!”
No sooner had he disappeared than the courtyard gate was brutally knocked open, and two members of the Law Enforcement Team led a troop of City Guards in.
“We’re late, someone else has already dealt with it. Seems like it was a solo cultivator who lent a hand!” one of them said.
“Since when do solo cultivators bother with such trifles?” the other person wondered.
The first one who spoke examined the corpse for a moment, especially its chest and swelling belly: “Odd, this guy seems to have been severely infected, but he appears almost decontaminated now. Yet he was only cleansed after being killed. Who would bother to do this – someone with too much time on their hands?”
“A Mortician?”
“Heh? To be a solo cultivator and become a Mortician, those are famous folks. I didn’t hear about any Mortician being in the city lately, besides, the deceased is clearly an ordinary person, no Spiritual Roots, even. Why would anyone go to the trouble of laying him to rest?”
“Let it go, since it’s settled, we should quickly move on to other places. We’ll report this to the other teams for now. After things calm down, someone will come to investigate.”
“…”
In a matter of a few sentences, the two set the plan. Leaving one soldier behind to organize manpower, everyone else resumed their patrol and manhunt.
…
Wang Zijia quickly left the courtyard, slipping away for quite a while. Once he was certain there was no one who had noticed and was in pursuit, he relaxed and began to wander again.
After a short while, Wang Zijia once again sensed a battle happening not far off. Just as he was preparing to look into it, he felt an irregular presence – someone was approaching quickly.
He flashed a thought and decisively hid himself.

“Meanies, so many picking on just me. Wait until I’ve eaten enough, and grown up, then you’ll see! Humph, I’m an expert at playing hide and seek!”
“That’s right, I love hide and seek, I can’t be found! Don’t you agree?”
As soon as he hid, a child about ten odd years of age ran out from the mouth of an alley. His body was covered in blood, but it was not his own.
It seemed the child hadn’t lost all his sanity, at least a bit of IQ remained. He was talking to his shoulder as he ran from one side to another.
On his left shoulder was a lump of flesh, interlaced with several miniature ghost faces.
Watching the child, Wang Zijia couldn’t help but think of his madness last night: if he hadn’t woken up, would he have eaten the nanny and then grown this kind of ghostly thing in his palm?
As the child crossed the alley, Wang Zijia, with a light crease between his brows, rose up and advanced towards the kid.
‘Dragoon Sixteen Slash: Dragon Backstab!’
Innate True Qi gathered at the tip of the dagger, flickering with cold light directed at the back of the boy’s head.
But just as it was about to hit its target, the boy’s arm bizarrely twisted in reverse to catch Wang Zijia’s dagger.
The gleaming dagger merely pierced through the boy’s palm, failing to completely sever even his palm bone.
‘Nearly Innate already?’
Despite his racing thoughts, Wang Zijia didn’t hesitate. The moment his right hand was blocked, his left hand aimed at the twisting head on the boy’s neck.
The boy’s reaction was even fiercer than when he was normally sneaking up on him. His other hand twisted in reverse just as his other one did, catching the other dagger as the normal head snapped around 180 degrees to face him.
With a babyish face, full of rage, he said, “You’re the meanest, hiding first!”
Wang Zijia, however, did not pay attention to his manic actions. After his twin daggers were trapped, he immediately let go and with True Qi surging in his right hand, he slammed a palm into the boy’s back.
“Crack!”
There was a slight indentation as he shattered the boy’s sternum, pushing his body to fly out.
Not allowing him the chance to hit the ground, Wang Zijia abruptly accelerated, rushing forward, kicking the boy’s head in mid-air with two consecutive hits.
“Snap!”
His stroke broke the boy’s head.
“Splat!”
The body also smashed into the wall in the middle of the alley.
He quickly moved in, without waiting for the headless corpse to stop twitching he reached out to touch the lump, encouraging the infectious air to flow out.
