My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms-Chapter 35: Love at First Sight for You
When Renee Winslow was carried out of the bathroom by Jack Yates, she was too tired to even want to speak; she just wanted to lie quietly on the bed and rest.
However, when Jack Yates placed her on the bed and she looked at his broad shoulders, narrow waist, firm abs, and the elegant lines of his muscles, her heart fluttered, and she couldn’t help but ask the question that was in her heart.
"Does that tea really have such strong effects?"
Jack Yates lifted his eyelids and asked her back, "What do you think?"
Renee blinked her bright, lively eyes, "How would I know? I haven’t drunk it."
Jack Yates leaned down, brushing her lips with his thumb, "I like you, I want you, it has nothing to do with tea."
Renee pressed her lips together and quietly said, "...Shameless."
Jack Yates smiled a bit, lowered his head further, gently biting her lip, and softly stroked her hair, "Sleep, after you wake up, I’ll take you to the hospital."
Renee picked up her phone to check the time. It was already half-past three.
She shook her head, "I won’t sleep, I’ll lie down for a while and then get up early to go to the hospital. That way, I can spend more time with Grandpa there."
No matter what, she was raised by her grandparents. Although they didn’t want her at first, they eventually kept her, and they treated her quite well, providing her food and clothing and raising her to adulthood.
She could not ignore the kindness her grandparents had shown in raising her.
Jack Yates kissed her forehead, "You rest, I’ll go make a call."
Renee grabbed his finger, "Didn’t you arrange everything with work? Why are you still busy?"
Jack Yates raised an eyebrow, "Want me to stay with you?"
Renee reached out and hugged his arm, "Yeah, I want you to lie beside me and keep me company."
Jack Yates felt a softness in his heart, like a soft feather brushing over him warmly. He suppressed that soft warm feeling, lifted the quilt, lay down, and turned to hug Renee.
Renee lay with her head on his arm, snuggling up against his chest softly, and asked gently, "Jack, can you tell me why you like me?"
She had never asked Jack such things before because she thought it was meaningless to ask now that things were like this. But at this moment, she suddenly wanted to know the answer.
Jack’s throat moved, and he said in a deep voice, "I don’t know." He looked down at Renee, pinching her chin with two fingers, "Maybe I wanted you from the moment I first saw you."
He wanted her, so he took her for himself.
He knew very well that his behavior was despicable, but he couldn’t control it. He’d always been someone who goes after what he wants.
The answer was within Renee’s expectations, yet hearing it in person still left her with a sour, heavy feeling. She couldn’t tell if it was disappointment or sadness, just that she felt quite undignified, being coveted and forcibly taken.
She didn’t show any signs of discomfort, instead, she smiled lightly and said in a relaxed tone, "It seems that in your eyes, I must be very beautiful for you to fall for me at first sight."
Jack tightened his hold on her, his voice deep as he responded, "Mm."
Renee lay there for a little over ten minutes, then got up to get dressed, wash her face, apply sunscreen, and then put on a sun-shielding mask and hat, layering on a sun-protective jacket, until she was fully covered.
Jack Yates: "..."
He pulled down the hat from Renee’s head and patiently explained, "You won’t catch much sun, taking the elevator directly to the basement, driving to the hospital, and getting out right at the entrance of the inpatient department."
Renee: "...The sun shines inside too!"
Jack lifted a corner of his mouth, "Alright, have it your way."
As Jack said, Renee didn’t even step outside the hotel lobby, descending straight to the basement and into a car. She pulled up the sun shades on both sides of the backseat, shielded upfront by a barrier, she wasn’t exposed to a single ray of sunlight. When she reached the hospital entrance of the inpatient ward, she got out directly into the building.
Jack didn’t accompany her into the ward; he waited for her in the rest area outside the patient rooms.
Renee entered the ward, saw her grandfather lying on the bed, and noticed her grandmother looking exhausted and haggard. Her eyes immediately stung, flooded with warmth.
"Grandpa, Grandma." Once she had greeted them, she rushed to her grandfather’s bedside, gripping his withered, skin-like-bark hand, "Grandpa, are you feeling any better?"
Grandfather Walter Winslow opened his mouth to speak, but Winnie Lowell, standing beside him, interjected, "Renee, why did you come back? Didn’t we tell you not to return?"
Renee wiped her tears and turned to Winnie Lowell, "I came back to see Grandpa."
Winnie Lowell sighed, speaking with concern, "You still have to work during the summer break to earn living expenses, why waste that money to come back? I already told you, your grandfather is almost recovered and will be discharged in ten days. You’ve always been so sensible, why won’t you listen this time?"
The stepmother, who’d come in carrying a lunchbox, heard Winnie’s words and chimed in with a laugh, "Oh, Renee’s back. Coming back from Northcity is not cheap, right? The round trip train fare must be around a thousand. You might as well have sent that money home to buy some supplements for your grandpa."
Upon hearing that she would have to spend a thousand on travel, Winnie Lowell also felt the pinch and scolded with concern, "You child, you’re getting less sensible the older you get. How much can you earn from a summer job? Instead of saving it for tuition, you’re wasting it on travel. If you truly have extra, just send it home; I’ll keep it safe for you."
The stepmother snidely echoed, "Exactly, you just don’t understand at all..."
Walter Winslow coughed, immediately cutting in, "Alright, stop criticizing Renee. Renee’s return makes me very happy."
Renee originally wanted to stay longer in the ward to keep her grandfather company, but looking at the very hostile stepmother, she stood up, "Grandpa, I have to hurry back to work, so I’m leaving now." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
From her bag, she took out the thousand dollars she had prepared and placed it on the bedside table, "This money is for buying you supplements, don’t be stingy on yourself, and don’t let Dad misuse it."
After speaking, she turned to leave.
The stepmother grabbed her arm, "Renee Winslow, what do you mean by that? What do you mean by ’don’t let your dad misuse it’? Are you suggesting something about me?"
Renee looked at her stepmother fearlessly, "I didn’t mean you, but if you’re willing to put yourself in that seat, I can’t help that."
The stepmother raised her hand as if to hit her, but Renee caught her wrist firmly, flinging the stepmother’s arm away with force, her tone icy, "What gives you the right to hit me?"
With her stepmother looking both shocked and furious, Renee turned and walked briskly out of the ward. But once outside, her eyes turned red.
She walked to the rest area, but didn’t see Jack, assuming he’d gone to the restroom or found a corner to take a call.
Since she was in a bad mood, she didn’t rush to find him and instead went to the bathroom.
What Renee didn’t know was that Jack had bought a lot of expensive supplements for her grandfather, discreetly leaving them in the car trunk, without her knowing. Once she had entered the ward, he quickly went downstairs to get them.
Jack took those items to the hospital director’s office, asking the director to deliver them to Walter Winslow.
Renee used cold water to chill her eyes in the bathroom until the redness was gone and there were no traces of crying, then dried her face and walked out.
She returned to the hall, seeing Jack sitting on a resting chair.
"Where did you go?" she walked over and asked.
Jack answered in a calm tone, "I took a phone call."
Renee responded with an "Oh" and didn’t ask further.
Jack: "Aren’t you going to keep your grandpa company a bit longer?"
Renee let out a breath, "No, let’s go." She took Jack’s arm, looking up at him, "I want to go shopping, can you come with me?"
In reality, she didn’t truly want to shop; she was just in a bad mood and wanted someone to accompany her for a walk. And now, only Jack was by her side, so she could only ask him to join her.
Jack looked into her clear, dewy eyes and easily saw through to her thoughts. He hugged her waist and kissed her gently on the brow, "How about I take you to see the night view from a mountaintop?"
Renee: "I am not fit for climbing."
Jack patted her head, "I’ll carry you."
Renee’s mouth tugged into a smile, "Why don’t you carry me up Mount Valerius or maybe Mount Taishon?"
Jack curled his lips into a smile, "If you can fall in love with me, I’d be willing to carry you across all the mountains and rivers in the world."
Renee looked up at him, "Why not carry me across all those mountains and rivers first, then I’ll love you?"
