My Mysterious Hidden Husband-Chapter 479: A Little Princess Is Born
Unfortunately, just as the two of them reached the door, an ambulance roared past in front of them.
In her daze, Shannon Quinn saw Susan Wilde and Simon Rhodes approaching, and Susan said excitedly, "Rona is about to give birth!"
"How is she doing?"
"I just saw her, and she seemed in good spirits. She told me her water hasn’t broken yet, just having stomach pains. It’s probably going to happen tonight."
Shannon Quinn glanced at Landon Sutton, asking, "How about we go to the hospital?"
Landon Sutton furrowed his brows even tighter, worried she’d get all worked up. He felt at ease only when she was lying in bed; any other time, he was on edge. So he said, "You’re not a doctor. Going to the hospital won’t help. Just go to sleep now, and I’ll take you there first thing in the morning."
Susan Wilde agreed, saying, "If we go now, we’d just be waiting around. I saw Mr. Thorne had already prepared the baby’s stuff, and since her water hasn’t broken, who knows if it’ll happen by morning."
Simon Rhodes, much like his brother, was overly protective of Susan since finding out she was carrying twins, always having his hand on her waist.
Susan Wilde came out in fluffy slippers, and out of concern she’d catch a chill, he quickly took her back inside.
After Shannon Quinn lingered at the door for a bit, Landon Sutton pulled her back into the house.
"Does giving birth take so long?" Once inside, Landon Sutton asked, puzzled.
Shannon Quinn replied with some annoyance, "You think it happens just like that?"
"What about when you had Leo?" He only knew bits from what Simon Rhodes had told him. Not being by her side during her delivery had always made him feel remorseful.
Recalling those days was quite bleak. She had signed the divorce papers to end her marriage with Leo’s father right after the child was born.
But after so long, talking about it now felt like recounting someone else’s story. She downplayed it, saying, "I was lucky then. I’d just left the hospital after a check-up with Dr. Chester. As I was leaving, my water broke, so being at the hospital already, it wasn’t much of a hassle. I delivered shortly after entering the delivery room."
"Did it hurt?"
Shannon Quinn rolled her eyes again, "Why don’t you try giving birth?"
"I would if I could. I wouldn’t want you to suffer like this."
Shannon Quinn lifted the blanket and got under it, teasing him, "All you men can do is talk big."
Landon Sutton nestled up behind her, his nose lightly brushing the back of her neck, "I can do a lot more than that."
Shannon Quinn frowned, reached back to push him away, tightened the blanket, and moved to the opposite side, saying in disdain, "Get lost."
Landon Sutton chuckled and stood up, "Get some sleep. Stop playing with your phone. I have some work to finish. Go to sleep; don’t wait up for me."
"Are you already this busy just after New Year’s?"
"I need to work overtime to earn money for the baby’s formula."
As Landon Sutton was about to walk out of the room, Shannon Quinn called out to his back, "I want to start working again too."
Landon Sutton paused, turned, and glared at her, "What did you just say?"
Shannon Quinn pouted and gave in, "I said, thank you for working hard. Finish up soon and get some rest."
"You know I work hard all day, yet you still make me worry." Landon Sutton stood by the door, watching her settle comfortably under the blanket, then turned off the room light and gently closed the door behind him.
In the hospital.
Zane Rhodes stood anxiously at the delivery room door, repeatedly checking his watch.
It had been nearly two hours since she went in, and there wasn’t a sound from outside the delivery room.
Remembering how she was in so much pain that she couldn’t speak earlier, Zane Rhodes couldn’t put his mind at ease.
"Where’s Rona? What’s the situation now?" Erin Bishop’s parents drove over late at night upon hearing the news.
Hearing Mrs. Bishop’s voice brought Zane Rhodes back to his senses, though he spoke with a slight stutter, "Still in the delivery room. She should be out soon."
"Is the baby’s clothing ready?"
"It’s already been taken in."
"How long has it been?"
"Almost two hours."
Mrs. Bishop’s inquiries helped Zane Rhodes relax a bit, as Mrs. Bishop had more experience in such matters, preventing Zane from feeling entirely clueless.
He glanced at the snowflakes drifting down outside, counting each passing second in his mind.
Every second felt endless.
At the slightest sound at the delivery room door, Zane Rhodes wanted to rush over, only to be disappointed time after time, caught in a cycle of waiting.
This kind of torment is likely something every father has experienced.
"Family of Erin Bishop, family of Erin Bishop, are you present?"
"I’m here!"
A nurse smiled and told Zane Rhodes, "The mother had a natural birth to a little princess, weighing six pounds and three ounces. The baby is now breastfeeding, so you can wait downstairs in room 508."
Zane Rhodes was so excited he didn’t know what to say. After the nurse left, he continued standing at the delivery room door, peering through the small window in the door, but could see nothing.
Shannon Quinn, with this matter on her mind, even worried about it in her dreams.
Usually, she would sleep until nine or ten in the morning, but today she woke up a little after six.
Seeing Landon Sutton still in a deep sleep beside her, she didn’t know what time he went to bed last night, so she didn’t disturb him.
She gently moved his hand off her, turned to pick up her phone from the bedside, intending to text to inquire about the situation at the hospital.
She saw that in their girls’ chat group, sent at four in the morning, Erin Bishop had shared a picture of the baby, reassuring them all was well.
This nearly lost love now seemed to have found its perfect conclusion.
The early spring chased away the winter chill, taking the snow on the rooftops with it.
Sheila Yardley sat in her studio, gazing at the spring outside. With a colored pencil in her hand, the drawing board in front of her remained blank.
Isaac Sheffield had discussed marriage with her last night, yet she hesitated.
She began to feel that Isaac Sheffield was somewhat different from when they first met.
She also started to find it hard to accept some of his shortcomings.
Initially, she thought his carelessness was merely a lack of consideration, his inability to perceive the finer details.
But gradually, she realized that his carelessness frequently surfaced, and over time it became a flaw she couldn’t quite tolerate.
She felt he always talked more than he acted, keeping his promises to her in mind, but by the next day, he’d forget them.
In life, he was quite the chauvinist, even suggesting she quit her job to take care of him at home.
He made wonderful promises to her, dismissing her past, vowing to give her a perfect future, love her for a lifetime, and be good to her forever, even starting to ponder their child’s name.
But it was just sweet talk.
He hadn’t cooked a single meal for her, nor did he often follow through with caring for her in daily life. Little by little, he stopped being as proactive about texting her to show he cared.
These seemingly trivial matters to Isaac Sheffield started to shake the heart of the sensitive Sheila Yardley.
