My Mysterious Hidden Husband-Chapter 478: Regretting Ever Knowing You
Isaac Sheffield sat on the ground to catch his breath, and when the hotel staff came over to ask if he needed an ambulance, he politely refused.
With the help of the staff, he stood up, bent over to spit out the blood in his mouth, and looked up at Caleb Grant with a provocative smile: "What did you do to her? Hmm? What gives you the right to hit me?"
Caleb Grant’s eyes turned colder, his voice chilling like the winter night’s wind: "You’re not worthy of being with her."
Isaac Sheffield lowered his gaze and smiled, taking a step toward Caleb Grant: "Is it up to you? Will she listen to you? If I remember correctly, she said herself at the supermarket today that she didn’t know you."
"She may not forgive me, but you’re trash and you can never possess her."
"Is that so? I’ll send you a wedding invitation." Isaac Sheffield’s tone was provocatively nonchalant.
Caleb Grant’s voice remained calm and devoid of any emotion, yet it carried a chilling menace: "Don’t force me to act, otherwise, you won’t even have a chance to say goodbye to her."
Isaac Sheffield feigned calmness: "I’m marrying her soon, and I should be the one warning you as her fiancé not to appear in front of her again since she doesn’t want to see you and even regrets meeting you."
After saying this, Isaac Sheffield moved his arm around, took out his phone, and dialed back the call he missed earlier due to the hit.
Not having gone far, he seemingly boasted to Caleb Grant, deliberately raising his voice to ask on the phone: "Sheila? Where are you now? I’ll come pick you up."
Caleb Grant could not hear Sheila Yardley’s voice, only clenching his fists in frustration.
Sheila Yardley was just by the bridge, not far away. The streets at two in the morning seemed like a ghost town.
So when the car headlights hit her, she felt a sense of relief.
"Where did you go? You weren’t answering the phone earlier."
Isaac Sheffield gripped her cold hand, apologetically saying, "Sorry I’m late, did you get cold?"
Although the bloodstains on his face had been cleaned, Sheila Yardley immediately noticed his injury and asked worriedly, "What did you do? How did you get hurt?"
Isaac Sheffield had already prepared his excuse: "It’s nothing, I ran into some thugs with friends at a bar, it got unpleasant, so I came late."
"Are you okay? Should we go to the hospital?"
"It’s nothing, just minor skin injuries."
Sheila Yardley sighed in relief. As the car started, a thought struck her, "You drank and drove?"
"I was keeping my friends company, I didn’t drink. I knew I had to drive, and come pick you up, how could I dare drink?"
Sheila Yardley smiled, feeling that he was still considerate.
Knowing he got held up in a bar, Sheila Yardley was no longer surprised he showed up so late.
Isaac Sheffield said he was worried about his parents, so he had called ahead to say they wouldn’t be going home tonight, and they found a nearby hotel to stay in.
Sheila Yardley was already tired and fell asleep immediately after showering.
Isaac Sheffield stood by the window smoking, chatting on his phone while deleting flirty chat records.
In the middle of the night, Sheila Yardley woke up from a nightmare, feeling uncertain and fearful about the future and marriage.
Meanwhile, in another hotel, Caleb Grant sat on the enclosed balcony, gazing at the night outside and sipping on strong liquor.
Peach had fallen asleep watching TV on the couch, and Caleb Grant, afraid to wake the child, just covered her with a blanket.
From where he was, he could see Peach sleeping soundly.
The child was already his entire life, and he wanted to give her the best of everything.
But as the child grew, so did her understanding, and facing some of her requests, he felt helpless.
Like tonight, when she brought up looking for Sheila Yardley multiple times, he managed to brush her off.
He didn’t know how long he could keep deceiving the child and even wondered if he shouldn’t have hoped to reunite with Sheila at all, allowing the child to spend more time with her.
But no matter what, he wouldn’t let Sheila Yardley fall into an unhappy marriage.
He could convince himself not to stop her from marrying someone else, but that person could never be a scumbag.
A man who would ditch Sheila Yardley to meet other women at a hotel wouldn’t change after marriage.
As long as Isaac Sheffield doesn’t give up, he has ways to prevent the wedding, especially dealing with someone obsessed with women is the easiest.
The only thing he needed to be careful of was minimizing the impact and harm to Sheila Yardley.
On the second day, Isaac Sheffield took Sheila Yardley away.
Sheila Yardley had to start work on the fifth of the lunar month, and Isaac Sheffield suggested she move in with him.
Thinking their marriage was almost settled and moving in together was inevitable, this time Sheila Yardley didn’t refuse.
It took her two days to pack, agreeing that Isaac Sheffield would help her move on the fourth.
However, on the fourth, Isaac Sheffield said he had an urgent business trip, dropping off the keys in the morning before leaving on a flight.
With work starting for Sheila Yardley on the fifth, she didn’t have time to move, so she had to hire a taxi and make three trips back and forth on the fourth.
The weather was bad, cold and damp with drizzle.
It left her exhausted and disheveled.
After arranging her room, she gave the place a deep clean, finishing by ten at night.
She bought a cup of instant noodles downstairs to fend off hunger, sent a message to briefly ask about Isaac Sheffield’s situation, but he seemed busy and stopped responding after a few words.
After a long day, in this unfamiliar environment and on a strange bed, Sheila Yardley surprisingly fell asleep faster than usual.
The busy New Year had passed, and Shannon Quinn, who loved excitement, was also worn out these past few days.
She thought she could finally get a good night’s sleep, but the sound of an ambulance disturbed her sleep.
Initially curious, she went to the window, only to see the ambulance stop not far from her home.
A second thought made her realize it was Erin Bishop’s home, and Shannon Quinn rushed to find Landon Sutton, who was still awake, in the study: "Rona might be having her baby, I’m going to check it out."
Landon Sutton frowned, putting down the pen in his hand: "Why are you going out in this cold? Let’s call and ask first."
"If she’s having the baby, who would have the time to answer the phone?" Shannon Quinn said, already wrapping herself in a down coat.
Worried she’d get herself into trouble in a hurry, Landon Sutton just had to put down his pen and stand up: "I’ll go with you."
