Chapter 475: Chapter 475: I’m Sorry

Sheila Yardley was pulling her suitcase out the door when Caleb Grant was still standing outside.

She glanced at him, said nothing, closed the door behind her, and walked straight towards the elevator.

She heard no footsteps behind her; he didn’t follow.

While standing by the elevator waiting, Sheila secretly glanced down the hallway, but didn’t see him.

She sighed with relief, watched the elevator doors open, stepped in, reached out and pressed the "1" button, then pressed the close door button.

Just as the elevator doors were closing, a hand reached in the gap.

The elevator doors encountered an obstruction and reopened.

Standing inside the elevator, Sheila was momentarily stunned, then pretended to be calm as she looked at the person standing by the door.

Their eyes met, but neither spoke.

They stared at each other for a long time until the elevator doors were about to close again, and Caleb finally moved.

He stepped into the elevator, stood in front of her, and called her name softly: "Elaine..."

Sheila opened her mouth but hadn’t had time to say anything when he suddenly embraced her, cutting off her breath.

Her eyes widened with shock.

As she reached out to push him away, he already let go of her, stepped back out of the elevator, and murmured: "I’m sorry."

Sheila hadn’t yet regained her composure, nor did she know what to say as she watched the elevator doors slowly close, cutting off her view of him, before descending to the floor she had selected...

As she walked out of the building, the cold wind made her shiver, clearing her mind and bringing back her rationality.

Isaac Sheffield came over to take the suitcase from her hand, but suddenly paused and said, "Your lipstick is smeared."

Sheila was startled, sheepishly lowered her eyes, and hastily wiped it with her hand, explaining, "I might have accidentally smudged it on something."

Isaac just chuckled, not suspicious, and pulled out a tissue from the car to help her clean up.

"I’ll do it myself." Sheila took the tissue and got into the car.

Isaac put the suitcase in the trunk, returned to the driver’s seat, and started the car.

In the rearview mirror, she saw him just coming out of the building, his eyes following the car until it disappeared from his sight, and he from hers...

Sheila took a deep breath and lowered the car window a crack.

"What’s wrong?" Isaac noticed her action and asked.

"It’s a bit stuffy."

"Feeling carsick?"

"No, just need some fresh air."

Isaac smiled and said, "Take a nap, we’ll be there in a little over three hours."

Sheila turned her head to look out the window, thinking about Caleb’s inexplicable "I’m sorry" comment.

She wasn’t sure if he was apologizing for his recent actions or for everything he had done to her in the past.

But she couldn’t pretend like nothing had ever happened.

She had to move on from the past; since she decided to be with Isaac, she had to invest wholeheartedly.

Less than half an hour into the drive, Isaac received a call, then pulled the car over to the side of the road.

"What happened?"

Isaac sighed and said, "Zack just called to say that Glenfield Road is blocked by snow, and it might not be passable until tomorrow morning."

"What do we do now?"

Isaac sought her opinion, "Do you think we should head back or find a hotel nearby to stay at?"

Sheila figured they had traveled quite a distance, and they’d have to continue the journey tomorrow anyway, so she said, "Let’s find a hotel."

Isaac took the next exit off the highway, and luckily, Rivenwood District wasn’t far; within minutes, they arrived at a hotel.

When the staff asked what type of room they wanted, he hesitated for a moment and chose a suite.

Initially, Sheila worried about how to tell him if he booked a single bed room, as they were already discussing marriage.

She intended to ask for a standard room, but didn’t expect he cared about her feelings and didn’t plan to take advantage of her.

"Rest early, we’ll probably leave first thing in the morning."

"Yeah, you get some early rest too."

Isaac smiled, raised his hand to pat her head: "Goodnight."

Instinctively, Sheila shrank her neck and hid behind the door, sluggishly saying "Goodnight" before closing the door.

Just after entering her room, she heard Isaac’s phone ring outside; he didn’t answer it immediately, appearing to return to his room before picking it up.

Sheila didn’t let her mind wander, took some clothes to change into, took a hot shower, and lay down on the bed.

She opened Caleb’s WeChat and found the conversation stuck at a few days ago.

It wasn’t even him who was chatting with her via WeChat, it was mostly Peach using it.

She played the old voice messages, listening to Peach’s soft childish voice one by one, and the tension between her brows slowly eased.

Peach used to send her messages almost daily, but ever since they had lunch that day, there were no more new messages.

Perhaps it was time for this Chapter to end, no matter what she could or couldn’t let go.

The next day, the snow stopped, but the cold showed no signs of fading.

"Zack said the road is cleared, let’s pack up and go."

Sheila casually asked, "Did you go out last night?"

Isaac was startled, "No, why?"

"I thought I heard a noise."

Isaac laughed and explained, "It might have been the poor sound insulation of the hotel, outside noise, let’s go, let’s have breakfast downstairs first."

"Wait, let me put on some makeup."

Isaac chuckled, "It’s not like you’re gonna meet someone important."

"It’s the first time I’m meeting your parents, I want to make a good impression."

"Alright, I’ll bring breakfast up, don’t rush, let’s try to arrive before lunch."

"Okay, I’ll be quick."

Sheila realized that if she looked at Isaac seriously, he was indeed a good man.

Throughout their time together, he had never shown her a bad attitude, and while he might be a bit careless in small matters, those minor flaws were negligible.

He had always been patient with her, never forcing her to do things she didn’t want to.

She feared the kind of twisted, obsessive control.

Like in the past with Caleb.

Around eight, they finished their breakfast and didn’t linger at the hotel before driving off.

The scenery on the highway was monotonous, and the uncertainty about his family made Sheila increasingly nervous.

She heard that his parents were quite strict with him growing up and had specific expectations for his partner.

But he reassured her that to them, she was exceptional enough.

They exited the highway, and in just a few minutes, Isaac said, "We’re almost there, nervous?"

Sheila pressed her lips and smiled, "Not really."

Isaac: "My mom can be quite blunt at times, if she says anything that overlooks you, don’t take it to heart."

Sheila just nodded, but felt even more unsure inside.
