My Misfortune Crushed Instances-Chapter 187: Rare Class, Click to Claim
Li Rui felt like things might have escalated a bit too much.
If this place truly existed in the Secret Realm World, wouldn't that mean the legend of ascending to the Upper Realm was real?
He recalled the Superpower Division's documents about the Secret Realm's rumors, which mentioned that within the Thunder Division, there were hallways and courtyards, officials and ministers arranged in ranks, and the one they all revered as the leader was the Yuqing True King, also known as the Nine Heavens Responding Origin Thunder Sound Universal Transformation Celestial Venerable.
Li Rui swallowed hard.
This place was resplendent and majestic, yet for some reason, it still gave off an uncomfortable feeling.
He closely examined the surroundings again. There was no one in sight, only an intangible air of decay, as if the palatial structures were tombs that had never been sealed.
Perhaps it was psychological, but he felt the atmosphere turn subtle after he understood the words on the plaques.
Instead of immediately heading inside, he quietly jumped onto the steps of the nearest building and peeked in, spotting a green-faced, tusked humanoid Divine General sleeping soundly with one arm propped on a square wooden table.
The dimensions of the buildings here were enormous, making Li Rui, who had quietly entered, seem like a stray cat that had wandered in.
Although unlikely to be noticed, he still tried to minimize his movement's impact.
Circumventing the Divine General sitting in the main hall, he entered the back hall and saw a sacrificial table with gold and silver utensils, nine candles, and on the northern wall behind it, a portrait of an individual neither male nor female, gazing sternly down.
Other parts of the room also held desks and chairs, bookshelves, and scrolls, resembling an office.
Li Rui then shifted his gaze to the other wall where attendance plaques were hanging, consisting of several jade slips inscribed with the same script as the plaques on the buildings.
The highest positions, two in number, were the West Terrace Rain Officer and Cloud Messenger, along with twelve subordinate officers below, all were registered as present, yet only one person was actually outside.
Perplexed, he sensed some fluctuation on the jade slip and moved closer to touch it, only to see options before making contact.
Rain Master — Skill: Rain of Serenity, Talent: Water Moistening Mist.
Fog Manipulator — Skill: Healing Mist, Talent: Healing Enhancement.
"Are these corresponding to the West Terrace Rain Officer and Cloud Messenger?"
"Can I advance just by choosing? This is too easy!"
Li Rui quietly thought to himself, "This place is the farthest from the Yuqing Celestial Royal Mansion, and probably the lowest in status. If I head to the front halls, I wonder what options I'll encounter?"
He quickly jumped off the table and rushed out the door, slightly softening his steps only when passing the napping Divine General and otherwise running at full speed. He really wanted to activate the Shenxiao Thunderbolt Heart Scripture, had he not feared attracting attention through magical fluctuations.
Being cautious never hurt; the beings on the outside streets were already quite powerful, each easily at least a few dozen levels strong, and the Divine Generals inside were unfathomable.
Just because there was no one nearby or no one noticed did not mean things wouldn't change later, so he knew he had to be quick.
The buildings within the Thunder Division were exceptionally large for ordinary humans, and without daring to use any skills, Li Rui ran for quite a while before reaching the next location.
Once inside, he saw yet another functionary reading scriptures, head down.
He crept along the wall into the back hall, where there was a similar sacrificial table, portrait, and no difference in atmosphere.
Li Rui moved towards the jade slips.
Two highest positions, the Overseer of the Four Seasons Wind and Rain Order, Thunderbolt Wind Accelerator.
The options remained two.
Rain Summoner — Skill: Rain of Serenity, Talent: Torrential Downpour.
Li Rui noticed the skill hadn't changed, but the talent's rarity had improved, enhancing Rain of Serenity by at least fifty percent, making it an Epic Level talent.
Next to it, another option.
Wind Accelerator — Skill: Blade Wind Array, Talent: Swift Movement.
"Sure enough, the closer to the Yuqing True King's Mansion, the better the options, including rare professions."
In the Secret Realm System's settings, professions didn't have ranks, but practically speaking, some appeared frequently while others were rarer. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Warriors, Berserkers, Martial Monks, Martial Artists, as well as Mages, Rain Summoners, and Trap Masters, were common.
Rarer ones included Jiang Yu's Battlefield Doctor, Kawina's Sailor, and Li Xiaolin's Shapeshifter.
Some were even rarer, nearly unheard of, like Guan Gui's Corpse Herder.
Statistically, rarer professions had a higher likelihood of becoming top-tier combatants, though the Secret Realm never explicitly stated this, it was true nonetheless.
Li Rui found the rare Wind Accelerator just in a hall close to the entrance, contemplating if more impressive professions and skill sets would appear further ahead. He decided to continue exploring.
As he dashed towards the next location, he recalled Dong Sanchuan's advancement experience.
Back then, Dong Sanchuan had entered a battlefield within the Ascension Divine Hall filled with cries of battle. The foes seemed to be the Demon Race, or perhaps Barbaric Beasts, or even human, which now seemed more akin to those beings Li Rui had seen on the bustling street outside.
Dong Sanchuan mentioned those enemies were formidable, although seemingly weakened, with spells that looked grand but lacked matching power. However, from what Li Rui saw, their aura was formidable, and the Divine Generals in Thunder City were even more unfathomable.
Aside from these differences, the option to proactively choose skills and professions was beyond bizarre.
When Dong Sanchuan advanced, it was choosing between two weapons within a military formation: a flying sword or a longsword. He chose the latter, cutting a bloody path through it and automatically advancing to a Secret Swordsman with randomly assigned skills and talents.
The same went for Nan Jiumei advancing to Explosives Expert and Zhang Hujun to Martial Arts Master. They followed a similar process, choosing a general direction and then receiving random results, with no one able to see their transformation in advance or choose their skills.
To save time, Li Rui did not enter every building he passed but sprinted further, checking only some halls at intervals.
Within a short time, he had snuck into several other grand halls, discovering the chance of encountering a Wind Accelerator increased and even found Epic Level talents or seemingly powerful professional skills.
Yet Li Rui still hadn't made a choice; there were just too many halls here, and so many still unexplored.
Just as he was deciding how far to advance before stopping, a bell suddenly tolled above the sky.
Buzz!
Li Rui abruptly felt something was off. Although he didn't stop moving, he quickly changed direction.
He initially thought about being greedy and getting further advancements, yet now he decided not to go deeper because, at the bell's sound, an intense sense of peril surfaced in his heart. Delaying might incur problems, so he resolved to pick something at the nearest spot.
Sure enough, as he turned, many figures emerged from the Celestial King's Mansion at the end of the street.
Li Rui finally understood why he saw hardly anyone else earlier; they likely were all in a meeting, leaving only one person to guard each hall.
Even so, up to this point, he hadn't been noticed, the ominous feeling remained strong, but ambiguous, without immediate outbreak.
He quickened his pace toward the grandest looking hall near him.
Flowing Gold Fire Bell Grand General's Mansion.
No matter what was inside, he decided to choose right away; the Wind Accelerator was a rare profession, not purely supportive post-advancement.
However, with his years of experience, he was certain it wouldn't be that simple, not with his luck, and the Thunder Division evidently wasn't a charitable place.
Sure enough, as he expected, before he reached the Grand General's Mansion door, a voice louder than the bell's pealed from within the Yuqing Celestial King's Mansion.
"Who stealthily intrudes into Thunder City, show yourself at once."
The words boomed with immense vigor, seemingly right beside his ears, resembling rolling thunder with clashing weapons' echoes.
The Divine Generals who had just exited the Celestial King's Mansion paused and then disappeared in an instant, some transforming into fierce winds, others vanishing like lightning, some dissolving into mist.
They reappeared simultaneously around their respective halls, filling the streets and alleys.
Then, Li Rui felt the once vague sense of danger turn acute, with several distinct killing intents locked onto him.
Each of these intents was at a world NPC level.
