My Idle System-Chapter 362: Reunion in Chaos
Under the night sky, on the rooftop of a building a few kilometers away from the Ashvale settlement, a group of figures had gathered.
No lights illuminated the rooftop.
None were needed.
The moonlight alone was enough for them to see everything they required.
At the center stood Alpha, dressed in her battle maid outfit. Around her, a small army of battle androids waited on standby, silently observing the distant settlement through telescope-like eyes and deployed drones.
Their gazes swept across the landscape with mechanical precision.
Only the faint glow of their eyes — barely noticeable unless one looked carefully, revealed their true nature.
The scene was quiet. Efficient. Almost purely science fiction.
Then, suddenly—
A fantasy element intruded.
The space above the rooftop trembled.
A ripple spread through the air, and two figures stepped out from the distortion as if emerging from an unseen doorway.
A young man.
And a teenage girl.
At least, that was how she appeared.
In truth, the girl was a half-dwarf, though her race was difficult to guess at a glance — especially with the lavish modern Earth clothes she wore.
Even so, Alpha paid little attention to her.
Her entire focus was on the man beside the girl.
He looked strangely out of place.
A casual jersey set, slightly long and untrimmed hair, and an overall unkempt appearance.
Yet none of that diminished the presence he carried.
If anything, it only made it more striking.
His bright green eyes, in particular, were strangely magnetic to Alpha.
"Master!"
Her voice rang out louder than usual.
She quickly approached him, but as she reached his front, she hesitated for a brief moment.
Christian noticed and chuckled.
"It's been a while," he said, casually ruffling her hair. "How have you been?"
"I missed you a lot, Master."
This time Alpha didn't hesitate.
She spoke honestly.
Christian smiled faintly.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the hand that had slipped away from his.
Anastasia had stepped a few paces back, quietly observing the surroundings as though none of this concerned her.
But, Christian didn't mind, he simply turned his full attention back to Alpha.
Why is everyone around me obsessed with physical contact? he wondered as he saw Alpha fidgeting in front of him, her intentions barely hidden.
Christian seemed to forget that, as much as everyone around him was obsessed with physical contact, he himself was just as guilty — if not more so.
Regardless, he was in a hurry.
Now that he had confirmed his location, he intended to move to Eva's side immediately. So after giving Alpha a brief hug, he turned toward Anastasia.
"Why did you move us here instead of taking us there directly?"
His tone carried a hint of grumbling, but Anastasia simply snorted and refused to answer.
It was a small act of payback.
Left with nothing to say, Christian shook his head. Looking toward the distant settlement, the place he was headed — he changed the question.
"Do you want to come, or are you staying here?"
"I'll watch from here," Anastasia replied in a neutral tone. "Finish your business quickly."
Christian didn't respond further.
Instead, he simply moved.
He stepped off the edge of the building.
A faint dark aura appeared beneath his feet — so subtle it was almost impossible to notice. It blended perfectly with the night, as if the darkness itself carried him forward.
His legs didn't appear to move particularly fast.
Yet each step carried him forward at a speed no Olympic athlete could ever dream of matching.
Christian disliked displaying his abilities openly, and he was barely using any strength now.
Even so, using it still felt unfamiliar to him.
Maybe I should spar with Anastasia… or Iris… the thought briefly crossed his mind.
By the time the thought faded, Christian had already reached his destination.
The supposed reunion between the young mother and her family had moved outside.
It was now unfolding in the open clearing before the Ashvale residence.
A crowd had gathered.
The night air was filled with tension, flashes of light — and killing intents.
A glowing dagger cut through the darkness again and again, leaving brief streaks of silver behind it.
Each flash was followed by another Ashvale member collapsing to the ground.
Around the lone attacker, several members of the Ashvale family attempted to resist, unleashing all kinds of flashy abilities and desperate techniques.
Blades clashed. Sparks flew. Wind and energy burst through the clearing.
Yet none of it changed the outcome.
Their attacks failed to reach their target.
Their fate did not change.
Christian watched the scene calmly.
A single girl stood against a crowd of opponents — and she was winning.
His eyebrow rose slightly.
One of the Ashvale members, lurking at the edge of the fight and waiting for an opportunity to strike the terrifying opponent, suddenly noticed him.
The man opened his mouth as if to shout something.
But the warning never came.
Christian walked past him.
The movement was so fast that the man couldn't even follow it with his eyes.
Christian made no effort to draw attention to himself.
His arrival should have gone unnoticed amidst the chaos of the battle.
Yet that wasn't the case.
The mother and daughter duo.
The merciless assassin.
Even the outsider watching from the side unbothered.
All of them felt their attention pulled toward him.
"Chris!"
Eva was the first to call his name.
Christian was already moving toward her, but she didn't wait for him to reach her.
She rushed toward him as well, throwing herself into his arms.
Her tense body finally relaxed the moment his arms wrapped around her.
Her voice trembled slightly as she whispered into his ear.
"Chris… Chris…"
One arm wrapped around her waist, while the other gently brushed through her hair.
Christian seemed almost invigorated by her presence.
"Shh," he murmured softly.
"Don't say anything."
"I'm here."
"I'm not going anywhere."
…....
Author's Note:
First, I would like to apologize for my long absence. My private life was a mess, and I barely settled things.
Moving on, I already sorted the mess (this time I meant the mess in this book), I left behind. And actually this mess was the main reason why I took even longer time than necessary to return.
The last ten of chapters, were not ones I was satisfied with, and I intended to rewrite them at first, but, that didn't work out, and in the end, I simply edited them, naturally taking out the overlapping chapters in the process.
Now, moving on to the story itself. Acually, I'm quite curious, what do you think about Anastasia?
For me, when I wrote this novel, I had three characters in mind. Christian, Iris, and Anastasia. Her entrance took longer than I expected, but, she is still one of the most important characters in novel… so, what do you think about her?
Finally. Thank you for reading this far.
