My husband Can Cultivate-Chapter 310 I’m the Expert!
The Zhao, Fan, Yan Bo, and Du Le'an families had taken precautions early on, gathering together to avoid a disaster. Still, many people were injured, some even severely.
Meanwhile, as Cao Kun made his move, a major event unfolded within the Fan Family. Fan Shengren had fallen critically ill and was already unconscious.
At the Fan Family mansion, Yang Qi had allowed Fan Shengren to keep his home, a final scrap of dignity. His family still lived a relatively affluent life, but they could no longer command the influence they once had in Kang City.
Fan Shengren's son had invited Thomas, a world-class Western doctor from the Eagle Country, and Fan Ruobing had personally gone to the airport to receive him. The reception was exceptionally grand. Despite the Fan Family's recent decline, they still spent a fortune to welcome Dr. Thomas.
Thomas was not a typical citizen of the Eagle Country; he was a true native of the Dragon Country. Years ago, he had gone directly from a prestigious domestic university to study abroad, with his education funded by the state. However, Thomas never returned. Not only did he become a citizen of the Eagle Country, but he also frequently criticized the Dragon Country's various shortcomings in public. If it weren't for the remarkably tempting price the Fan Family offered this time, and his own desire to return to make some money, he swore he would never have come back. From the bottom of his heart, he detested his roots, hating the fact that he wasn't born a citizen of the Eagle Country.
Upon arriving in Kang City, Thomas surveyed the changes and felt a pang of annoyance. He had left over thirty years ago when it was just a small fishing village. Now, he was a Western medical expert in his fifties, and the city had unexpectedly transformed into a bustling metropolis. The prosperity of a place he so despised unsettled him.
"Your Dragon Country's economy may have developed, but the quality of your people is still just as low as ever!" Thomas said, finally finding an angle to voice his disdain.
Fan Ruobing forced a dry laugh, unable to say much. After all, they had invited Thomas to save her grandfather.
Seeing her silence, Thomas grew even more emboldened. "And your Dragon Country's National Medicine is an utter mess. I heard about your grandfather's illness. If you had called me earlier, he would have been fine by now. Why did you delay for so long? Those so-called National Medicine practitioners are simply frauds. Their remedies are just a bunch of flowers and weeds. Heal people and save lives? What a joke!"
Fan Ruobing kept a placating smile on her face, agreeing with everything. She had no choice; what would happen to her grandfather otherwise?
"Let me be clear," Thomas began to boast again, his tone suggesting he was God himself, "if I can't cure your grandfather, then I guarantee no one else in this world can."
"We have absolute faith in your abilities, Mr. Thomas. Otherwise, we wouldn't have sought you out!" Fan Ruobing replied with a smile. Thomas indeed had a significant international reputation and had many classic cases to his name, so his boasting was not entirely without merit.
Just as they were entering the house, another group of people walked in from outside. It was Fan Jian, and he had brought Liu Changsheng with him.
"Brother, what are you doing?" Fan Ruobing frowned.
"I should be asking you the same thing!" Fan Jian retorted. "Our Fan Family's business is built on National Medicine. Have you lost faith in it?"
Before Fan Ruobing could reply, Thomas scoffed, "National Medicine? It's nothing but a practice for frauds!"
"Whether someone is a fraud is proven by the results," Liu Changsheng said with a calm smile. "National Medicine and Western medicine each have their strengths. Why must we attack one another?" He was being remarkably good-natured. After all, as the president of the Kang City National Medicine Association, he had no obligation to personally oblige Fan Jian. He had treated Fan Shengren a few times before and was merely here to do what he could, even though he knew the old man's condition was incurable.
"Heh, I say you're a fraud, so you're a fraud," Thomas sneered. "If you plan to let this charlatan touch my patient, then I'm walking out."
Fan Ruobing and Fan Jian looked incredibly embarrassed.
"Fine. I won't treat him," Liu Changsheng retorted with a cold smile. "I'll just watch. Let's see if you can cure Mr. Fan Shengren. If you manage to heal him, I will give up medicine for good."
He knew Fan Shengren's condition all too well. A month ago, there might have been a sliver of hope, but after this much delay, it was truly a lost cause.
"Good. You know your place."
Thomas strode into the patient's room, which was fully equipped with medical devices. He instructed his team to prepare for surgery and then shut the door. The patient's recent medical records were all there, available for his review.
Seeing everyone's anxious expressions, Fan Ruobing quickly tried to reassure them. "Everyone, relax. Thomas is one of the top Western medical experts in the world. We need to trust him!"
No one said a word. There was no point in talking until they saw the results. Liu Changsheng remained silent, waiting with his eyes slightly closed.
After a full hour, the door to the room opened, and Thomas emerged.
"How is my grandfather?" Fan Ruobing asked anxiously.
Thomas sighed. "The surgery itself was a success, but the patient's underlying condition is too severe. He can't be saved. If only you had called me sooner!"
What!
For the members of the Fan Family, this news was like a bolt from the blue. The family was already in decline. With Fan Shengren still alive, they commanded a degree of respect, and the younger generation could still attempt to stage a comeback. If Fan Shengren died, the Fan Family would truly fall apart.
"Is there really no hope at all?" Fan Jian asked.
"None," Thomas stated flatly. "His condition is extremely severe. Even surgery couldn't fully resolve it. The success rate was only one percent, and he could have died on the table. This illness is incurable, I can assure you of that." He then made his recommendation: "Therefore, I suggest you donate the patient's body to a research institute in the Eagle Country. It would be a contribution to human medicine and help find a cure for this disease."
"What nonsense are you spouting? My grandfather isn't dead yet! He still has a faint breath and a heartbeat!" Fan Jian yelled.
"What's the difference between his current state and death? You can't even call him a vegetable," Thomas said, shaking his head. "I am telling you this as a top medical expert from the Eagle Country: He cannot be saved!"
"Isn't that a rather arrogant declaration?"
Suddenly, a voice cut through the tension. A young man dressed in simple clothes walked in from outside, yet he exuded an extraordinary presence.
"Mr. Yang!" Seeing Yang Qi, Liu Changsheng hurried over. "What brings you here?"
Fan Ruobing was on the verge of tears. "Yang Qi, our family is already in this state. Did you come here just to laugh at our misfortune?"
"Ruobing, be respectful!" her father chided before bowing hastily. "Mr. Yang, to what do we owe the pleasure of your visit today?"
"I heard that when Cao Kun was forcing everyone to choose a side, Fan Shengren actually chose to support me," Yang Qi stated. "For that reason alone, I won't let him die. That's right—I'm here to treat his illness."
"You would be so kind?" Fan Ruobing stared at him, her expression full of disbelief.
