Chapter 82: [Chapter - 74] - Delivery for one Imran [Part-II]

Chapter - 74

The clock showed 12:17 AM, but Iris was not asleep yet.

She lay on her soft bed, dressed in a loose white silk robe. Her long black hair was spread over the white pillow. Her sharp, dark eyes stared at the ceiling without blinking. She was lost in some deep thought.

She slowly turned her head to look at her phone on the nightstand. She was thinking whether or not to pick it up and call Lucius.

She knew something was 100 percent wrong. Lucius was up to something. But is he that important for her to stay awake so late at night? What is happening to her?

Her hand slowly moved towards her chest as she felt her heartbeat raising. Why is she acting so strange?

"He went out with that Cop girl. Then who is this rich friend? Another girl he wooed?" Iris muttered to herself.

"Rich friend at this hour?" Iris frowned as she thought even more about it.

No.

That wasn’t just strange. That was suspicious.

"You are doing something, Lucius. And enough, I am going to pull the leash on you now," She sat up straight as the white robe slipped off her shoulder. It was a beautiful sight, but Lucius was out there kidnapping people and asking ransom.

She grabbed her phone, and without hesitation dialed a number. It rang just once, and it was already answered.

The voice on the other end was calm and soft, but alert, "Ma’am?"

"I need you to track Lucius," Iris said, her voice sounded emotionless, "I want to know where he is right now, and what is he up to."

"Yes, ma’am. Do you want me to send some people?" The person asked.

"No," she replied, "Find out what he has been up to tonight. He went out for dinner with someone. I want to know what happened at dinner. If he is still with her."

"And if he created some mess, I want you to take care of it. Destroy everything. But make sure you get a hold of them."

"Yes, ma’am. Understood."

She ended the call without another word, and the room fell silent again.

Iris let out a long breath and placed the phone back on the table. She leaned back, resting her head against the bed-rest and pressed her fingers to her temple.

Her head was starting to hurt, from all the frustration Lucius was causing him. She could have never thought saving someone on a whim would cause him so much pain in her ass.

In the beginning Lucius was like that cute little puppy. He chased skirts, flirted with girls, but nothing of this sort. It was such a sudden change. He did not shy away from dropping bodies that too in double digits.

It felt like he wasn’t just being himself... Or was he? After all, what did she know about him? She asked her people to dig into his details, but till now there has been nothing.

’He’s probably covered in blood right now,’ she thought to herself.

More mess to clean up.

She got down the bed and walked across the room barefoot. The carpet was soft under her feet, but her steps were firm. She stopped near the window and looked out at the beautiful and quiet night sky.

She remembered what the old butler told him.

The night Lucius had walked into the police station, he walked out of the police station with two dozen dead bodies.

"There will be an arrest warrant tomorrow. He will be covered by the media, there will be headlines. And not long after that Levain Industries will get dragged into it. Grandma won’t like it."

And here he was... out somewhere, in the middle of the night, making it worse.

She sighed again. This time, it came out longer. Heavier. Then she walked back to her bed and picked up the phone again.

This time she was going to contact someone important. Someone who can take care of all the trouble.

And this time she had to wait. It rang a couple of times before the call was finally answered.

A low voice answered on the other side. It was a deep, calm voice of a man.

"Iris," he said, "Didn’t expect your call so late."

Her tone didn’t change. It stayed sharp, respectful, and emotionless.

"Good evening, Minister. I need a favour."

Somewhere around the lake,

Farouq sat in the driver’s seat of a dark grey car, parked at a distance. His hands rested lightly on the steering wheel, but his eyes kept moving. He was scanning every corner, every flicker, every sound. His fingers twitched near the glove box, out of habit ready to grab his gun at the first instance.

Through the earpiece in his ear, Imran’s voice came calm and low.

"Do you see anything?"

Farouq turned slightly, his voice quiet, "No movement. I don’t think he is coming."

Imran stood about thirty meters away from the car. Alone. Waiting. Watching the dark road ahead. His face was tense, jaw locked. His long coat swayed slightly with the breeze.

He looked at the time.

2:12 AM.

The meeting was supposed to happen at 1:00 AM.

He was one hour late.

Imran’s fingers tightened into a fist inside his pocket.

"That bastard is making me wait on purpose," Imran whispered, "He wants to show he has the upper hand."

Just because he hadn’t involved their father yet... that guy thought he had room to mock him?

"You don’t know who you are playing with," Imran gritted his teeth in anger.

He touched the earpiece again, "We are leaving. He is not coming."

Farouq straightened in his seat, nodding once, "True. He might be toying with..."

But then suddenly from the corner headlights shone and a van came into sight.

The van slowly rolled toward them. The engine hummed low. Dust kicked up around its tires. It passed by Imran’s left side without stopping.

Imran turned slowly, gun ready but still lowered. The van rolled about 20 meters ahead of him and stopped.

Imran narrowed his eyes, trying to see better in the dark night. But it was too dark for him to make out. Nothing happened for a long moment, there was no movement from inside the van.

Then finally after a couple of minutes, the driver’s door finally opened and a figure jumped out of it.

Farouq immediately leaned back, hiding his face. His hand moved instinctively toward the glovebox.

Imran watched as the man started walking toward him. He did not walk fast. He walked like he was having a stroll in the park. Like he didn’t care that he made Imran wait for an hour more.

The darkness made it hard to see details, but Imran could make out the coat. The way the man carried himself. Relaxed. Unbothered. He wasn’t nervous and that was dangerous.

Lucius walked with his hands in his coat pockets, head tilted slightly, as if listening to something in the wind.

Inside, the System’s voice whispered in his ear.

[Only two targets. One in front of you. One in the car. No other heat signatures nearby.]

[The guy in front of you has a gun on him.]

[Car guy is trying to duck. He’s got a gun with him as well]

"Why do they never listen?" Lucius replied silently. He was half-smiling, "When the kidnappers ask don’t call the police, come alone. Why do they never do as asked?"

Out loud, Lucius called to Imran in a clear voice, "You should really tell your man to stop trying to hide. It’s kind of embarrassing. We have already seen him."

Imran frowned as he heard the person. He caught the word "we".

He stepped forward once, keeping the gun down but ready, "You are not alone?" Imran asked.

Lucius stopped walking. He shrugged in the dark, "Didn’t I ask you to come alone? But you brought your loyal dog with you. So I thought... why should I come alone?"

It was a lie, of course. But how would Imran know?

And Lucius sounded too confident for Imran to catch the lie.

Farouq, still in the car, heard everything through his earpiece. He moved his fingers away from the glovebox.

Lucius stood still in the shadows, watching Imran closely. Imran couldn’t see his face clearly. And Lucius couldn’t see Imran’s either. But the tension in the air was sharp. One wrong move and the ground would be red.

Farouq reached toward the headlights switch, thinking to turn them on and get a better view.

But the system was quick to tell Lucius about it.

[That guy in the car. He is about to light up his headlight]

So without looking directly at the car, Lucius spoke out loud for Farouq to hear, "Don’t even think about it."

Farouq froze and his hands stopped.

Lucius smiled slightly, even though no one could see it.

"It is not that I am not afraid of being seen," he said, "Your brother is going to tell you all about me, anyway."

"And who knows? Maybe this is the start of something beautiful between us. We might turn out to be best friends in the future."

"But I just hate the spotlight being on me. I feel like a star."

Lucius paused, then added with a chuckle, "Your guy might spook one of my men. And who knows... one of them might blow your head off by accident. Messy stuff."

That was enough. Imran spoke in his head in a hurry, "Farouq. Don’t do it."

And Farouq didn’t argue.

Then Imran chuckled, just a little, trying to ease off the tension, "You are calm. I will give you that,"

"Who are you working for? Does your boss not care who I am?" Imran asked. He was actually curious about it.

Lucius tilted his head, "Well, not only my boss, even I know who you and your family are," he replied.

"But this is more personal between me and your brother this time."

Imran raised a brow, "Personal?"

"Totally personal. I have nothing against your family," Lucius nodded, "But I am trying to turn it into a business opportunity. It’s efficient that way, you know?"

Imran’s jaw tensed. He was starting to understand something, ’This isn’t just about money.’

’Is he trying to get close to our family after pulling this stunt?’

"You are right. I indeed want to get close to your family," Lucius spoke with a smirk, as if reading Imran’s mind, taking Imran by surprise.

"Then we..." Imran quickly masked the surprise on his face and began, but was interrupted by Lucius.

"But that will have to wait after you give me those 25 Millions. Even I have a few hungry stomachs to feed."

"I am already giving you a family discount."
