My Happy Daily Life After Being Reborn-Chapter 343 - 40 Zhi Xin Garden
Chapter 343: Chapter 40 Zhi Xin Garden
Lin Xiaoguai, feeling helpless to prevent her skirt from being tugged off by her son, could only pick him up and tapped his nose, saying, "Your brother, sisters are asleep, how did you wake up?"
Little Spring Breeze didn’t understand what Mom was saying and just kept pushing his face up against hers, wanting to be close to Mom.
Lin Xiaoguai’s heart softened, and she asked the nanny beside her, "Mrs. Yu, when did Little Spring Breeze wake up?"
"He’s been up for a while, started looking for you as soon as he woke up, crawling around the table and coffee stand," Mrs. Yu said with a beaming smile.
Mrs. Yu was one of the two nannies Shen Chi had found, full name Yu Lihua, 44 years old this year. Her husband had died on the Vietnam battlefield, her eldest daughter married far away, and her only little son died from an illness. Shen Chi had fought alongside her husband and prioritized her when it came to choosing people. Fortunately, Mrs. Yu was cheerful and hardworking, knew her boundaries, didn’t act on her own, and had an extraordinary love for children.
"Does he think I’m playing hide and seek with him again?" Lin Xiaoguai laughed too. Ever since grandma convinced him once that Mommy was playing hide and seek with him and he had to find her by himself, whenever Little Spring Breeze couldn’t find Mommy, he always thought Lin Xiaoguai was playing hide and seek with him.
"Mistress, the young miss, the Second Young Master, and the young miss have woken up!" Just then, a crisp voice rang out.
Lin Xiaoguai looked up and saw another nanny coming out of the nursery with Qiaoqiao in her arms.
Seeing Mommy holding her brother, the still yawning Qiaoqiao immediately got upset, stretched out her arms and flung herself over. Lin Xiaoguai had no choice but to hand Little Spring Breeze to Shen Chi and took Qiaoqiao in her arms instead.
"Mrs. Zhang, where are Sisi and Little Sun?" Lin Xiaoguai looked up and asked the nanny.
"They are being lazy, don’t want me to carry them, probably waiting for you," Mrs. Zhang pursed her lips.
Unlike Mrs. Yu, who was older and had no children around, Mrs. Zhang, Zhang Xiaoduo, was relatively young, only 36 years old. Although her husband had sacrificed, she could theoretically remarry. But Mrs. Zhang’s situation was different. She wasn’t good-looking and had a fourteen-year-old son whose IQ would forever remain at a ten-year-old’s. Originally, she didn’t meet the hiring requirements, but Wei Qiang insisted on introducing her to Shen Chi when he heard that Shen Chi wanted to hire a nanny.
Shen Chi left the decision to Lin Xiaoguai, who was initially hesitant. She didn’t have prejudice against the boy whose brain was damaged by fever, nor did she mind paying an extra salary, but she was concerned the boy might cause trouble, so she decided to meet him.
After the meeting, she found that the boy named Yu Jian’an was exceptionally quiet and well-behaved. Though not very smart and somewhat dull-looking, he clearly was obedient. Upon closer inspection, she noticed that the mother and son, though shabbily clothed, were kept very clean, their gazes steady, not those who would engage in sneakiness.
Remembering Shen Chi mentioning that after Yu Jian’an became mentally impaired, someone had wanted to buy him to be a live-in son-in-law to carry on the family lineage, but Mrs. Zhang had refused, preferring to take care of her son herself rather than abandon him to remarry. It showed that her character was also not bad.
After much hesitation, seeing the tension and hope in the eyes of the mother and son, Lin Xiaoguai ultimately decided to keep them on.
Mrs. Zhang naturally helped with the housework and looked after the children. Her hands were quick and she loved cleanliness, organizing upstairs and downstairs meticulously, and she also had great cooking skills; she outdid Mrs. Yu in these respects. However, she wasn’t without faults, perhaps due to the persistent lack of smile on her face, Little Spring Breeze and Qiaoqiao didn’t like her much, preferring the more playful and smiling Mrs. Yu instead. Sisi and Little Sun showed no particular preference for nannies. Moreover, Mrs. Yu had an edge in cultural knowledge because she had some education, liked to read the newspaper and watch the news, could read stories to the children, and even sang Huangmei opera to them. Mrs. Zhang, on the other hand, had never been to school and was completely illiterate.
Her son Jian’an, although only fourteen years old, had the strength to rival adults, and could handle the heavy lifting around the house. And the boy was single-minded, executing Mrs. Zhang’s instructions to the letter. Mrs. Zhang told him to listen to the master’s family, and he would do whatever he was told. Over time, Lin Xiaoguai grew quite fond of the boy, not only paying him a salary but also specially saving some snacks for him when she made them.
All four little ones were carried into the living room, and aside from Little Spring Breeze, the other three children were somewhat lethargic, having just woken up.
