My Five Bigshot Seniors: I am The Most Coddled Junior!-Chapter 304 - 172: The First Battle [Update 1]
On the first night when the Demon Path army arrived at Yuqiu Pass, a group of unidentified people appeared inside Yuqiu Pass. After intruding into Yuqiu Pass, they searched everywhere, seemingly looking for something important.
At a higher point on the city wall, Wen Guiyun and Gu Qingqing stood there, watching those people scurrying below with very peculiar expressions.
"Master, are we just going to let them run around like this?" Gu Qingqing asked as she watched those people.
"Isn’t watching their performance quite enjoyable?" Wen Guiyun said with a slight curve of his lips, smiling.
"But what if they find something or leave something inside Yuqiu Pass?" Gu Qingqing asked worriedly.
"It’s fine, just let them explore first. After they leave, we’ll take a good look," Wen Guiyun casually replied, unconcerned with Gu Qingqing’s worry.
Seeing this, Gu Qingqing knew that Wen Guiyun probably had a plan in mind, so she said nothing more.
Those people stayed inside Yuqiu Pass for about an hour before quietly leaving.
After they left, Wen Guiyun also led Gu Qingqing and the others down from the city tower.
"Alright, it’s getting late. You should go back and rest. There might be a battle tomorrow," Wen Guiyun said, looking at Gu Qingqing and the others.
Gu Qingqing exchanged glances with the others, all understanding Wen Guiyun’s meaning, nodded, and then left one after another.
Indeed, early the next morning, the people from the Demon Path were clamoring for a battle with the Righteous Path outside the city gate.
The Righteous Path was naturally not to be outdone. Eventually, both sides agreed to dispatch ten people each for a battle at a location equidistant from both sides.
The Righteous Path had already divided into teams, each led by disciples with relatively high cultivation, such as Gu Qingqing, Jun Wu, Si Lin, and others, each leading a team.
For this battle with the Demon Path, it was Si Lin’s team that was sent out.
Upon arrival, neither side adhered to any formalities and started fighting directly.
Leading the Demon Path side was an elder from the Blood Sect, who was also at Half-step Immortal Rank, similar to Si Lin. The other disciples’ cultivation was also at the ninth or eighth rank peak, equivalent to the team Si Lin led. Both sides had comparable strength, with full confidence in their teams.
As the strongest presence in the team, Si Lin immediately faced off against the Blood Sect elder.
The elder had heard about Si Lin’s promotion to Half-step Immortal Rank, but he believed he had been at that rank longer and should be stronger. Though cautious, he did not take Si Lin too seriously initially, which led to Si Lin quickly wounding his shoulder with a sword.
"How can your cultivation be so strong? It must have been my carelessness. I will not hold back next time," the Blood Sect elder did not want to admit he was inferior to Si Lin, despite saying so, his actions never stopped, and his attacks became increasingly fierce.
Si Lin, however, did not spare him a glance, gripping the Dragon Capturing Sword, releasing one Sword Qi after another from its tip, surrounding the Blood Sect elder directly.
Of course, the Blood Sect elder was not easily defeated; initially underestimating Si Lin, he adjusted his strategy quickly, fighting evenly with Si Lin.
The teams they led also battled fiercely, with a spectacular fight on the scene.
The Righteous Path people watching from the city walls and the Demon Path people observing from a short distance were all very tense.
This was the first official battle after the declaration of war between the two sides. Whichever side lost would suffer a blow to their morale, so neither wished to be the losing party.
"Master Wen, do you think our Righteous Path will win this time, or will the Demon Path?" Bai Guanlin asked, standing beside Wen Guiyun, watching the fierce battle between Si Lin and the Blood Sect elder.
"Saint Master Bai, do you think an Innate Sword Body is a joke? This disciple of mine has few rivals in the same rank, rest assured," Wen Guiyun, filled with confidence in Si Lin, replied confidently.
Bai Guanlin recalled past rumors about Si Lin and indeed had never heard of him being defeated by peers in the same rank, so a smile immediately appeared on his face.
As expected, after a fierce struggle, Si Lin directly slew the Blood Sect elder.
And the disciples under his command also completely annihilated the Demon Path disciples. Though they sustained injuries, the first battle was a victory for the Righteous Path!
After dealing with those opponents, Si Lin led his team back to the city walls of Yuqiu Pass, kneeling before Wen Guiyun.
"Master, your disciple is fortunate not to have disgraced your trust and has slain the people from the Demon Path."
"Good! Worthy of being my disciple. To have won the first battle so brilliantly, I shall credit you with a first-class merit." Wen Guiyun patted Si Lin on the shoulder and said with a hearty laugh.
"Master Wen is right. Mr. Si’s victory in the first battle is indeed a good thing for our Righteous Path. We must credit Mr. Si with a first-class merit as well." Bai Guanlin also smiled as he spoke.
This was something they had discussed beforehand. The great battle against the Demon Path concerns the entire Righteous Path. Although each sect sent disciples, incentives were still needed to motivate them. So Wen Guiyun and other sect leaders established a military merit system, planning to reward merits after the war ends.
And Si Lin, in the first battle, not only defeated the Demon Path by slaying all ten of their warriors, but also managed to deter the Demon Path and boost the morale of the Righteous Path, thus fully deserving the first-class merit.
"Thank you, Master! Your disciple will surely continue to work hard." Si Lin was not very concerned with military merit but cared more about Wen Guiyun’s praise.
"Good, you are tired. Go and rest well, take care of your injuries." Wen Guiyun noticed the wounds on Si Lin’s arm and shoulder and quickly said.
"Yes, your disciple takes his leave." Si Lin stood, bowed respectfully, and withdrew.
The disciples who followed Si Lin and were heavily injured had already been taken for treatment, while those with lighter wounds had their fellow sect members bandage them.
While the Righteous Path was rejoicing, the Demon Path was not pleased.
Although preparations had been made and the possibility of being outmatched by the Righteous Path was anticipated, Gong Tianhai did not expect to lose the first battle, and so disastrously at that—none of the ten survived!
This made Gong Tianhai extremely angry, but someone was even angrier, and that was the Sect Master of the Blood Sect, Li Feng.
Losing ten elite members is a significant loss even for a large sect like the Blood Sect, especially since the half-step immortal elder, whom the Blood Sect had nurtured for so long, was slain by Si Lin just like that. Li Feng couldn’t swallow such humiliation.
"We can’t go on like this. We should launch a direct attack on the Righteous Path instead of letting them counter us in batches like this. Today, we’ve lost so many elites from the Blood Sect, and it can’t be for nothing." Li Feng slapped the table, his face gloomy as he spoke.
"Then what do you propose? To accomplish great things, sacrifices are inevitable. Once we successfully occupy the Righteous Path, won’t we be able to train more elite disciples?" Although Gong Tianhai was also furious, he didn’t appreciate how Li Feng was acting in front of him and coldly retorted.
"So, what? Should my disciples and elders just die for nothing? Your Netherworld Palace remains untouched, of course, you don’t feel the pain. I feel the pain for my people." Initially, it wasn’t supposed to be Blood Sect’s members who were sent, but because Li Feng had bad luck in the draw and got the first battle, now that his disciples were dead, Li Feng was naturally unhappy, speaking with a sarcastic tone.
Gong Tianhai glanced at him, intending to counter his words, but realizing the hard effort it took to gather their alliance, he didn’t want to disrupt their Demon Path alliance just yet; at least now was not the time, so he decided to endure.
"Of course, we won’t let the Blood Sect’s disciples’ sacrifices go in vain. Here’s the plan, tomorrow, our Netherworld Palace disciples will go to battle. How about that?" To appease Li Feng, Gong Tianhai suggested after some thought.
The other two sect masters exchanged glances, thinking this was feasible, and immediately tried to persuade Li Feng.
"Brother Gong is also right. To achieve great things, one can’t be constrained by small matters. Sect Master Li, don’t be overly worried. Didn’t Brother Gong just say that our Netherworld Palace will be going to fight tomorrow? Their disciples are very powerful, and they will surely avenge the disciples of the Blood Sect." Helian Cheng chimed in.
"Exactly, Sect Master Li, we are heartbroken over the Blood Sect’s losses, but wasn’t this all agreed upon beforehand? For the success of our takeover of the Righteous Path, please bear with it a bit longer, Sect Master Li." Wan Qi also joined in with words of persuasion.
Although Li Feng was unwilling, he also knew it wasn’t the time to tear things apart with Gong Tianhai, so he had to pinch his nose and accept it.
"Very well, but when we eventually occupy the Righteous Path, the Blood Sect should receive a larger share of the resources." He added.
Gong Tianhai glanced at him and nodded, signifying his agreement.
The atmosphere on the Demon Path side slightly eased, and the other two sect masters also sighed in relief, worried that if Li Feng and Gong Tianhai fought, their so-called Demon Path army would collapse before officially clashing with the Righteous Path.
That night, another group infiltrated Yuqiu Pass.
Gu Qingqing and Wen Guiyun were still at the same place as before, watching those people scurry around Yuqiu Pass.
"Master, what exactly are these people searching for?" Gu Qingqing curiously asked, watching those people dart around the city.
"Not sure. Maybe they’re not searching for anything, but just trying to create some chaos." Wen Guiyun shook his head, indicating he didn’t know either.
"So, are we going to do nothing and just watch them run around the city?" Gu Qingqing looked at Wen Guiyun, unable to resist asking.
"Tonight we will act. You personally lead a group to teach these people a lesson, to let them know that Yuqiu Pass is not a place anyone can just intrude." Wen Guiyun instructed Gu Qingqing.
