My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 64: Quite Soft
Another round of urgent knocking echoed from the door.
Nina Wynn’s face was pale. She looked at Finn Prescott. "I saved you. Can you save me?"
Finn Prescott raised an eyebrow. He glanced toward the door, his expression darkening. He tutted. "Who’s outside?"
Nina Wynn bit her lip. "Caleb Rhodes."
Finn Prescott seemed a little surprised but didn’t say much. He pulled Nina Wynn and dragged her into the bathroom.
He tore open the bandage on his freshly dressed wound, then fished his bloody clothes out of the bathtub and draped the soaking garments over himself.
Just then, the knocking on the door started again. Finn Prescott clicked his tongue impatiently. He glanced at the small, delicate feet peeking out from under the shower curtain, then pulled a bath towel over and threw it to cover them. "Don’t make a sound."
He turned and opened the door.
The moment the door opened, Finn Prescott was shoved back, staggering.
Caleb Rhodes stood at the entrance with several bodyguards in black. The doors to the other guest rooms were also being knocked on, one after another.
A few of the bodyguards moved past Finn Prescott and scanned the room. They tried to enter the bathroom but were blocked by Finn.
Standing at the bathroom door, Finn Prescott looked at Caleb Rhodes with a smirk. "Third Lord Master, showing me so little respect? Barging in and searching my room just like that?"
Caleb Rhodes stood in the doorway, dressed in a white shirt and black pants, looking cold, somber, and distinguished.
But Finn Prescott felt that the malice and hostility in his eyes could practically tear him to shreds.
Caleb Rhodes stared unblinkingly at Finn Prescott. "Where is she?"
His voice was so cold it lacked any trace of humanity, filled to the brim with aggression.
Finn Prescott tutted and pointed at himself. "Third Lord Master, if you’re looking for someone, you might want to try somewhere else. As you can see, I’ve run into a bit of trouble and am not really in a position to entertain you."
The wound on his shoulder was bleeding continuously, dripping down his arm and filling the air with the smell of blood. As he spoke, the dagger in his hand fell to the floor with a sharp CLATTER.
Caleb Rhodes stared at him as if trying to burn a hole right through him.
Finn Prescott shrugged and tutted. "Third Lord Master, you don’t think I’ve hidden your little runaway again, do you? What a coincidence that would be. I mean, look at the state I’m in."
A biting chill laced Caleb Rhodes’s voice. "Finn Prescott, if you dare hide her again this time, I’ll make the Prescott Family suffer for it."
Finn Prescott gave a nonchalant shrug. "Third Lord Master, you’ve all seen for yourselves. There’s nothing in my room. May I go treat my wound now?"
Caleb Rhodes stared at him for two seconds before asking coldly, "Did you disable the hotel’s security cameras?"
Finn Prescott raised an eyebrow, tutted, and wore a look of utter indifference. "I ran into some trouble and preferred not to be seen. I’ll pay double for anything I damaged. Third Lord Master, I’m really in a bind right now. Please, for my brother’s sake, let me go take care of this."
Caleb Rhodes’s gaze lingered for two seconds on his soaking, bloody clothes and his still-dripping hand. He made a gesture. "Let’s go!"
As the door shut with a SLAM, Finn Prescott let out a sigh of relief.
’That Caleb Rhodes is a real piece of work. For a second there, I really thought I’d been exposed.’
He went into the bathroom and yanked open the shower curtain. "You can come out now."
Nina Wynn glanced nervously at the door. "Is he gone?"
Finn Prescott grunted in affirmation. "Help me re-bandage my wound. It split open again."
While she was applying the medicine, Finn Prescott lit a cigarette and said lazily, "You’re not from the Rhodes Family. Caleb Rhodes wouldn’t bring a whole squad of bodyguards out in the middle of the night for some random Rhodes kid."
Nina Wynn’s hand paused as she applied the medicine, but she said nothing.
Finn Prescott continued, "Who exactly are you? And what’s your relationship with Caleb Rhodes?"
Nina Wynn lowered her eyes, her voice soft. "He’s my uncle."
Finn Prescott was a bit surprised. He turned to the side to look at Nina Wynn. "You’re really part of the Rhodes Family?"
Nina Wynn didn’t answer, just looked at him quietly.
Under the light, her delicate little face was picturesque. Her pupils were pitch-black, and seemed to hold a deep affection.
Finn Prescott stared at her, stunned for a moment, then turned away with a derisive laugh. "The Rhodes Family really does produce good-looking people."
Nina Wynn kept her eyes lowered and continued to treat his wound.
Finn Prescott said no more. He finished one cigarette in a few drags and lit another. Before he could even take a puff, Nina Wynn plucked it from his hand and tossed it into the ashtray. "It’s bad for you." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Finn Prescott looked at her with a smirk. "So concerned about me?"
Nina Wynn didn’t speak. Her eyes were downcast, and her thin bangs danced on her smooth forehead, obscuring her expression.
After a while, she reached out with a soft, pale hand and took a piece of tissue to wipe the remaining blood from his shoulder.
"You should go to the hospital soon. It’ll be a hassle if the wound gets infected."
Her voice was very soft, just like a newborn kitten’s.
They were very close, and Finn Prescott could smell a faint, sweet scent on her, like some kind of milk candy.
He raised an eyebrow but said nothing, letting her wipe the blood from his shoulder.
After a moment, Nina Wynn threw away the bloody tissue and looked at Finn Prescott. "You’re Finn Prescott? Crystal Rhodes’s new boyfriend?"
Finn Prescott shrugged noncommittally.
Confusion filled Nina Wynn’s eyes as she gazed at him. "Are you two getting engaged? Then we probably can’t be friends."
A flicker of interest crossed Finn Prescott’s face. He curved his lips into a smile. "Why?"
Nina Wynn lowered her head, twisting her soft, pale fingers together. Her voice was very soft and low. "Crystal Rhodes doesn’t like me. She hates me. If you’re going to marry her, we should probably just pretend we don’t know each other from now on."
Finn Prescott’s gaze lingered on her small, white hands for a few seconds, his eyes darkening slightly. "She said I’m going to be engaged to her?"
Nina Wynn hummed in agreement. "But the family elders are still considering it. They said that if there aren’t any better options, you two will get engaged."
Finn Prescott narrowed his eyes, his handsome brows knitting together. He looked at her with a smirk. "And what if I don’t get engaged to her? Would we be friends then?"
Nina Wynn shot a quick glance at him. Seeing that he was looking at her, she hastily averted her gaze and whispered, "Maybe we could."
After a moment of silence, Finn Prescott suddenly pulled her over, tilted her chin up, and admired her delicate little face for a moment.
"You look so timid, but you’re actually bold as brass. You and Crystal Rhodes don’t get along, do you? Are you trying to sabotage the marriage alliance between the Prescott and Rhodes families?"
Nina Wynn frowned, breaking free from Finn Prescott’s hold. "You’re overthinking things."
Finn Prescott, intrigued, took her hand and gave it a squeeze in his palm. "Nice hands. Very soft."
As he spoke, his rough finger hooked gently in her palm, the coarse texture scraping against her skin. Startled, Nina Wynn quickly snatched her hand back, the tips of her ears turning a little red. "I-I should go."
Under the light, her skin was as white and smooth as milk. With the tips of her ears tinged red and a hint of panic in her eyes from having her thoughts exposed, Finn Prescott found that the more he looked at her, the more she resembled a little kitten—sweet, amusing, and completely unable to hide her feelings.
With a sweep of his arm, he pulled her in front of him. His voice was lazy. "Did I say you could go?"
