My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 111: Don’t Let It Go
"Do you know exactly what happened to your mother when she was nine?" Brie asked.
Lucas shook his head. "No. I was afraid to ask."
"Are you scared of her? I mean, sometimes she’s a different person, right?"
"I’ll be lying if I say I’m not. I’m scared of Camila and the other one. She has no name because I heard she’s my mom’s true self. She was just hiding it."
Brie frowned. "What do you mean?"
Lucas was hesitant at first, but he trust Brie completely and he wanted to share everything to her, especially his nightmares.
"She’s a killer, Brie. I saw her kill someone. It was when the mafia attacked Flousia."
Brie was taken aback. Shocked filled her heart, but she wouldn’t let Lucas feel it. He needed her and that’s what was important to her.
"You mean she killed one of Benjamin’s men? But I think everyone killed someone that day."
"No. Not Benjamin’s. But someone working in the palace. I don’t know what’s the reason, but the person she killed was a woman."
"And you saw her killing that woman?" Brie asked.
Lucas nodded. "Yes. I was scared because I saw that personality of hers and I don’t want to see her again. The look in her eyes are different from a normal human being. I can’t explain it."
Brie held his hands when he started shaking again.
"Hey, I’m here so don’t be scared. You’re not alone."
Lucas looked into Brie’s eyes and saw her sincerity. This girl had been by his side since he was ten. She never left, but she’s still too young for romance. He thought inwardly.
"She may be that scary, but she’s still your mom and I know she loves you and Alira. Why don’t you ask her about what happened that day?"
"That’s the thing about her illness. Everything that has been done by her other selves, she couldn’t remember it after. My dad will kill me if I ask my mom about it."
"Do you think it’s because of the memory serum? Caden said the possibility of having a cure is high. We have the woman from the research facility. Would you like to talk to her?"
He was hesitant at first, but his life-long dream was his mother to be cured.
"Will you help me?"
Brie’s eyes glittered. "Of course! It’s for mom."
"Mom?"
"Yeah. He’s your mom so she’ll be my mom someday."
He chuckled, making Brie smiled.
"You laughed. That’s great."
He couldn’t stop himself from smiling. Aside from Alira, Brie was the only one who could make his troubles disappear.
"Why do you like me?" He asked out of nowhere that made Brie dumbfounded.
"That’s unexpected."
"If you don’t want to answer, that’s fine."
"No! I was just surprised, I guess. But to answer your question, I don’t know either. I mean there’s no specific reason. When I’m with you, I feel safe. I’m happy. I feel sad and alone if you’re not around. My mind is always full of you. To make it simpler, I can’t live without you."
Ah! This girl. How could she make his heart flutter with her words?
"We’ll be flying to Flousia next week. Caden wanted us to go with them. I know it’s your birthday, how about taking a tour in that country?" He asked.
A bright smile flashed on Brie’s face. "As long as you’re with me, I don’t care about the place."
His heart skipped again. Her sudden declaration of love and affection toward him made him fall for her over and over. But he didn’t want her to see it, he wanted her to feel it.
Brie couldn’t believe what happened next. She didn’t expect Lucas to touch her face. He was staring straight at her, making her heart pound.
"Your eyes. I like it." He whispered.
"Really? I–I didn’t know that." She stuttered.
He chuckled. "You’re beautiful, Brie. And you’re an amazing girl."
She nodded. It was the first time she received a compliment from him, so she wasn’t sure how to react.
"I–I received a letter." She exclaimed.
Lucas frowned. "What letter?"
"A confession from one of my classmates."
She wanted to scold herself. What if Lucas get mad? It was a moment for the two of them, but she ruined it.
"It’s natural to get those kinds of letters. I receive a lot of them. Letters and personal confessions."
"Did you respond to them?"
He nodded, making her nervous. What if he like one of those girls? She thought inwardly.
"What did you tell them?"
"I told them that an annoying girl who keeps on following me will be sad if I date someone. So I intend to be single until that girl stop bothering me."
She bit her lip and giggled. Her heartbeat raised and she wanted to jump for joy. He knew she told him she would never stop following him. So it was like telling those girls that he already had someone.
"Hey, you’re daydreaming again."
"But it’s already evening."
"Whatever. Go to sleep." He said, pointing at the other side of the bed.
Brie’s eyes widened. "You’re asking me to sleep with you?"
Lucas was surprised. "Words, Brie!"
"Y–Yeah. I’m sorry. You’re asking me to sleep here?"
Lucas nodded, but the frown on his face was still there. His expression changed when Brie shed a tear.
"Why are you crying?" He asked, worried.
"I’m just happy but you’re being too kind again. It makes me love you more."
Lucas took a deep breath and wiped the tears on her face.
"Then love me more. Be happy. I’m not going to ask you to stop. Stay with me."
"But I thought I’m pissing you off."
He laughed. "Yeah. But I already got used to having you around. It makes me anxious if I don’t see you."
"Then you’re mine now?"
He laughed again. "You never change. Do you remember when we were little? When you asked me marry you?"
She remembered. It was when her parents didn’t watch her won a contest. She was feeling sad and alone, but Lucas stayed with her.
FLASHBACK
Brie smiled at Lucas. "Will you marry me when we grow up?"
Lucas’ eyes widened. "What? Are you crazy? I don’t even like you."
She pouted. "I’m not crazy. If you become my husband then I don’t have to work and leave the kids alone. You’re rich."
"You’re a gold digger."
"I’m not. My family is rich and I can make a fortune even without leaving home. I’m smart."
Lucas wanted to laugh. This girl’s mind set was different. He had received tons of confessions recently, but Brie’s was by far–the worst.
"Come on! Just say you’ll marry me!"
Brie wouldn’t stop pestering him. She’s good at annoying him so he had no choice, but to agree.
"Fine! But as I said, I don’t like you. And I will never like you."
Brie smiled. "It’s fine. We have a lifetime together so I got plenty of time to make you like me."
She giggled. "That marraige proposal was the worst."
"Yeah, and now you’re asking me another question again. It’s like forcing me to say yes. Again."
She pouted. "It’s because I really like you. I know I annoy you. Some of the students laughed at me whenever they see me behind you." She chuckled. "They said I’m like a loyal dog following you around. But I don’t care. I just want to be around you. I’m scared that if I’m not, you’ll be taken by another woman."
"You’re a scary woman. That’s an obsession, you know." He commented.
She bit her lip again. "I know. But I tried to forget you, I swear. When I was sent to Canada, I looked for other guys—"
"Stop! I don’t want to hear it. You can continue liking me and don’t you ever look for another guy or you’re dead."
"Then why can’t you just say that you’re mine? I am forever yours, Lucas."
He took a deep sigh in surrender. "Because you’re still too young. I’m okay with what we have now, but I also want you to make time for yourself. You have to spend time with the others. Make some new friends."
"I just want to know if you’re feelings have changed."
"No."
It was the truth. He realized that he was always in love with her. But he was just denying it to himself.
But for Brie, haer heart suddenly felt like it was being broken again. He said it never changed and it only means that he never liked her.
"No. Because I didn’t realize that the girl I always push away already had the heart of the ten year old me." He chuckled. "I tried to take it back. But I couldn’t. You already have it, so don’t let it go."
Did she hear him correctly? His heart belonged to her.
