My Dragon King System-Chapter 302: The Weight Of Guilt & And A Love For Ages
The dragons arrived back at the Pocket Domain, but this time they materialized in a corner far removed from where the gods were gathered.
The domain had reached its peak level with Aiden becoming the Dragon King, and the transformation had expanded it to truly incomprehensible proportions.
The space reached endless in every direction, vast beyond measure. A planet could fit in here perfectly and occupy barely any space at all.
Floating platforms were at various distances of the void, some close enough to see clearly and others so far away they appeared as mere specks of light against the darkness.
Aiden was by himself in a certain corner, with his back turned toward the others. His teeth were gritted as he tried to control the welling emotion in him.
He hated that this was all his fault. Every single consequence that had unfolded stemmed directly from his decision to use Checkpoint.
A tear started to form at the corner of his eye, threatening to fall as the weight of what he had done pressed down on him.
His hands were clenched into tight fists, trembling slightly.
He thought to himself with desperate firmness, trying to hold himself together against the crushing guilt.
"Don’t you dare, Aiden. Dragons do not cry."
He repeated it like a mantra in his mind, forcing the emotion down even as it clawed its way upward through his chest.
The other dragons all looked unhappy as well.
Thyron’s expression was dark and troubled, her arms crossed over her chest as she stared off into the void.
Syqora face was solemn.
There was this heaviness in the air that none of them could shake off.
Orlien, however, sensed the emotions radiating from Aiden from where she stood. Her authority over the mind made it impossible not to feel the turmoil pouring off him in waves.
She couldn’t help but read his thoughts as they screamed outward with such intensity that they might as well have been spoken aloud.
The self-blame. The guilt. The desperate attempt to hold back tears.
She walked up to him slowly and stopped just beside him with a gentle smile on her face.
"It’s fine," Orlien said softly. "It’s so good that until now you remain in touch with your human nature."
Aiden’s voice came out strained when he finally spoke. "I’ve ruined everything," he said.
Thyron overheard those words from where she stood a short distance away. She walked closer then and stopped on Aiden’s other side.
"I’m not going to say you had no other choice," Thyron began. "But you did what you had to do and what you thought was best at that moment. And for that, I respect you."
She wasn’t absolving him of responsibility, but she also wasn’t condemning him for making that decision.
Syqora, whose solemn face had remained unchanged throughout this exchange, finally walked close to Aiden as well.
He reached out and placed one hand firmly on Aiden’s shoulder.
"You are not to be faulted," Syqora said quietly.
That was when a voice suddenly hit Syqora’s mind like a bell ringing clearly through his thoughts. It was feminine in tone and carried with it a sense of urgency.
"I am in the space above the world you dragons cherish the most, and yet I cannot find you, Dragon of Destiny. How shall I get to you?"
Syqora’s head lifted immediately at hearing that voice echo through his consciousness.
His eyes widened slightly in recognition before he turned his gaze toward the others.
"It’s Uriel," Syqora said aloud. "She’s seeking us out."
The dragons all looked at each other then with varying expressions of surprise and uncertainty crossing their faces.
Even though they hated the angels right now after what had transpired in Ah’Me, they didn’t mind Uriel specifically. She had always been an ally of sorts.
Aiden also knew this from the memories of the other dragons that now resided within him. He had seen glimpses of her character through their past interactions.
"Where is she?" Aiden asked.
"Space," Syqora replied simply.
Aiden immediately activated his power as Dominator of the Void, and his awareness expanded outward beyond the Pocket Domain and onto the universe.
He focused his thoughts on Uriel specifically, using his knowledge of all positions to locate her exact coordinates in an instant.
He found her almost immediately, hovering in the void of space just above Earth’s atmosphere, waiting patiently for some form of contact or direction from Syqora.
Without hesitation, Aiden stretched his hand forward and opened a blue portal which connected directly to Uriel’s position in space.
"Come through the portal" Syqora replied with in thought, and with that Uriel floated forward without hesitation and passed through gracefully.
And the moment she crossed the threshold into the Pocket Domain, the portal sealed shut behind her.
She now stood before them within the vast expanse of Aiden’s domain.
More precisely, she was positioned directly in front of Syqora while the other dragons stood behind him.
For a moment after her arrival, there was silence as Syqora and Uriel simply stared at each other across the short distance separating them.
Their eyes met and held without wavering, as though communicating between them that required no words.
Then they both moved forward at once and embraced each other warmly.
"It’s been a while, Uriel," Syqora said as they held each other for just a moment longer before pulling back slightly.
Uriel’s expression softened further as she looked up at him. "I’m sorry Michael is being a fool," she said with genuine regret in her tone.
The dragons behind watched this reunion unfold with varying reactions.
Orlien was the only one smiling openly at what she was witnessing between Syqora and Uriel.
She leaned closer toward Thyron beside her and whispered just loud enough for Thyron alone to hear.
"It’s so lovely they are still fond of each other after all this while."
Thyron scoffed lightly at that comment while shaking her head. She only just found it cringe but nothing more.
This would have been a surprise to Aiden if he wasn’t the Dragon King now, but with the knowledge residing within him from all four dragons’ memories, he knew the truth already.
Syqora and the angel Uriel had always been something like lovers. Of course, they never called it that as such fond terms were reserved for humans.
