My Crazy Upgrade System-Chapter 77 - 76: Departure
Jiu Lingyun’s performance stunned everyone. No one had expected the person Yi Tianyun brought back to have such an astonishing display, making many feel ashamed of their own abilities. She was admitted directly as an Inner Hall Disciple. Those who had previously claimed she would last two or three waves at most were probably hiding in some corner, their faces burning with shame.
Was this what they called "relying on connections"? Clearly, she had gotten in on her own strength, not through any supposed connections.
Yi Tianyun was just as surprised, however. The result far exceeded his expectations. He had never imagined Jiu Lingyun would be so gifted in this area, and an outstanding talent at that.
DING! "Congratulations on completing the Hidden Mission: ’Initial Saintess Training.’ Reward: 50,000 Experience Value, Jiu Lingyun Favorability +50, Character Value +30!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
The sudden sound of the system’s voice startled Yi Tianyun. ’An Initial Saintess Training mission? What’s going on?!’
’Could Jiu Lingyun be a Saintess?’
Yi Tianyun looked down at Jiu Lingyun, his eyes filled with shock. "Ling Yun, are you a Saintess?"
"Hm? What Saintess?" Jiu Lingyun’s face was a mask of confusion. She had no idea what Yi Tianyun was talking about.
"Uh... what about your parents? Do you know who they are?" Yi Tianyun asked.
"I’ve never had parents. I grew up with my younger brother in the slums..." Jiu Lingyun shook her head. As she spoke of this, she felt no sadness. How could she feel sad over something she had never possessed?
"Then your brother... is he related to you by blood?" Yi Tianyun asked.
"My brother isn’t related to me by blood. I found him... Young Master Yi, how did you know he wasn’t my real brother?" Jiu Lingyun asked, puzzled.
"I was just asking. Don’t worry about it..." Yi Tianyun laughed, not pressing the issue further. Inwardly, however, other ideas were already taking shape.
’In that case, it’s possible that Jiu Lingyun is a Saintess, or perhaps she was abandoned here by some sect. That’s highly likely. Her talent is already beginning to show. She might not have set a new record, but given her cultivation level, what she did was a record in its own right.’
’The previous record-holder was already at the eighth or ninth level of the Body Refining Stage; for them, it was basically an entrance exam. For Jiu Lingyun, who only just started, to achieve such a result is already incredible.’
"It’s just a pity your cultivation is a bit too low, otherwise you could have entered the Celestial Sinking Ruins." Yi Tianyun found this fascinating. ’If I keep training her, Jiu Lingyun could really become a Saintess. I can’t even imagine how amazing the rewards would be.’
’This is a special kind of development quest!’
"No, thank you. I’m already thrilled just to have joined Merak Palace. If I were allowed to enter the Celestial Sinking Ruins right after joining, people would definitely talk."
Jiu Lingyun shook her head, feeling she wasn’t qualified to go to the Celestial Sinking Ruins. Even if her cultivation were sufficient, she had only just joined. She felt that accepting would surely put Yi Tianyun in an awkward position.
"Don’t sell yourself short. Your talent is exceptional, and you’ve already proven that. Your cultivation is the only thing that’s a bit lacking... Rest assured, there will be plenty of opportunities in the future. Keep working hard, and come find me if you need anything."
Yi Tianyun smiled at her. ’I have to train this Jiu Lingyun properly. She’s a Saintess, after all!’
’The system would never deceive me. This is a hidden mission!’
After giving her a few more instructions, Yi Tianyun sent her off to handle other things. As a new official member of Merak Palace, she had a lot to get done.
In the blink of an eye, it was time to depart for the Celestial Sinking Ruins. Merak Palace had already gathered and selected eight outstanding disciples, including Qin Xue and the others from before.
"The Celestial Sinking Ruins are about to open, aren’t they?" Yi Tianyun asked.
"Correct. You will lead them this time, with the Great Elder assisting you. I won’t be going. I’ll stay and guard Merak Palace," Shi Xueyun instructed.
If all the top experts left, the palace would be left vulnerable, and it would be disastrous if the Divine Forging Sect decided to attack. Yet, if they didn’t go, they would miss the rare opportunity for experience offered by the Celestial Sinking Ruins.
"Will that be okay? What if those old coots from the Divine Forging Sect decide to attack..." Yi Tianyun asked, concerned.
"There’s no need to worry. We’ve already awakened the Supreme Elders. We have nothing to fear if they come! Merak Palace is not a sect that can be pushed around by just anyone!" Shi Xueyun’s gaze turned icy.
Yi Tianyun fell silent for a moment. He actually wanted nothing more than to personally pay a "visit" to those sects and eradicate the threat for good. But those sects were simply too far away, and storming their territory would not be an easy matter to resolve.
His cultivation level was decent, but that didn’t mean he could waltz in and out of these well-established factions as he pleased. He’d better wait until his cultivation was higher. Unfortunately, there were no good places to raise his cultivation level nearby—only common Demon Beasts, which yielded almost no experience when killed.
"Alright, then. If anything happens, send a message immediately!"
Yi Tianyun lowered his voice. "No matter who comes, I’ll make sure they stay here for good."
"Oh, come on. Do you think those old fossils can just move out whenever they please? Their lifespans are nearly at an end. They’re probably just turtling in their shells, refusing to come out," Shi Xueyun said with a faint smile. "It’s getting late. Finish your preparations and set off."
"Okay. It’s a shame I can’t go in, though..." Yi Tianyun sighed and shook his head.
"With a cultivation level as high as yours, what would you even do in there?" Shi Xueyun tapped his forehead with her finger and smiled. "Don’t look so glum. There’s nothing that special inside."
She had no idea that what truly worried Yi Tianyun was his own main quest.
"Fine. Let’s depart now."
When they arrived outside the palace, the various elders were already prepared. Since there were now several extra slots, Second Elder’s wish for her disciple to participate could finally be fulfilled, and she had given one of the spots to her star pupil.
Without further ado, they each boarded their carriages and set off in the direction of the Celestial Sinking Ruins.
「After several days of travel, they finally arrived in the vicinity of the Celestial Sinking Ruins.」 From a distance, Yi Tianyun could see a continuous mountain range. Many carriages were already parked at the foot of the mountains, their occupants gathered in small groups, seemingly in discussion.
As they drew closer, Yi Tianyun finally laid eyes on the true form of the Celestial Sinking Ruins.
The Celestial Sinking Ruins were built right into the mountain range. A great gate had been carved into the mountainside, leading into a massive ancient structure within. Before he even got close, Yi Tianyun felt an incredibly heavy power wash over him, filled with a solemn and immense majesty.
It was a feeling that spoke of the immense passage of time, as if ten thousand years had passed in the blink of an eye. The Celestial Sinking Ruins must have existed for an eon. It had always served as a trial ground, with each power allotted a fixed number of spots, accessed via these Tokens.
Without a Token, entry was impossible, even if one’s cultivation level met the requirements.
’So this is the Celestial Sinking Ruins... I wonder how I can get inside?’ Yi Tianyun had not given up on the idea. This was a main quest, after all!
