My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon-Chapter 165 - 139: Technology and Ruthless Work! How 1 Person Can Defeat a Legion
A Knight has two to three Knight's Squires, and each Knight's Squire commands a squad of five elite soldiers.
The core, then, amounted to only eighty to ninety men.
The rest of the soldiers were roughly on par with common Mercenaries.
A force of this size might not sound like much, but facing it alone would be incredibly daunting.
With a force of three hundred men, even if they just stood there and let you cut them down, your arm would give out before you could finish them all.
The good news, however, was that Fang Zhen wouldn't have to face the entire force.
During the battle with Ashton Territory, Montagu's legion had suffered about seventy to eighty casualties, leaving him with no more than two hundred and twenty combat-ready men.
Ashton was fighting with their backs against the wall, but as long as their combat strength wasn't too pathetic, they could surely drag another fifty to sixty men down with them. That would reduce Montagu's forces to around one hundred and sixty.
Even if Montagu succeeded in conquering Ashton Territory, he would still need to station sixty to seventy men to occupy the castle and maintain order.
Fang Zhen had also just taken out two Knight's Squires and eleven elite soldiers.
All things considered, even if Montagu led the pursuit himself, he could bring seventy to eighty men at most.
Of those, it was impossible they would all be elite soldiers. The core elites would number thirty to forty, while the rest would be grunts just to make up the numbers.
'By that math, this isn't an unwinnable fight.'
'Of course, I can't just charge in recklessly.'
'Time to get a little creative.'
'Time for some real tech... and a few dirty tricks.'
After learning the details of Viscount Montagu's forces from Dalia, a rough plan had already begun to form in Fang Zhen's mind.
He walked down from the second floor of the tavern and ran right into Ande.
Ande's face was a mask of sheer panic.
"Sir, this is bad!" Ande cried out, the panic on his face so blatant he couldn't hide it.
Fang Zhen stopped in his tracks.
"Don't panic. What happened?" Fang Zhen asked.
"Just now, the butcher interrogated one of Viscount Montagu's soldiers again, and the man revealed something terrifying," Ande said, his face pale. "The soldier said that Viscount Montagu is extremely cruel. He only accepts unconditional surrender, after which he plunders all the wealth, food, women, and children."
"And if anyone resists—even if they just kill a single one of his soldiers—Viscount Montagu might order the entire town to be slaughtered!"
"The soldier had lost a lot of blood and was delirious; the information was forced out of him during the interrogation."
"He also said that at the rate Montagu is advancing on Ashton Castle, he could conquer it by dusk, and his army could reach Redstone Town by nightfall."
"We've already killed so many of Viscount Montagu's soldiers... I'm afraid Redstone Town is going to be massacred!"
Ande was clearly panicking, completely at a loss.
Ande looked at Fang Zhen, his eyes pleading for help.
"Sir, what do you think we should do? Should we surrender, or should we continue to resist?"
"No matter what, I want to save Redstone Town. I can't let it be destroyed!"
Seeing Ande shift the burden of the decision onto him, Fang Zhen shrugged.
'Strictly speaking, this is a choice for the people of Redstone Town. It has little to do with me.'
'But I've been here for a while now. Since he's asking, I don't mind giving him an answer.'
"My advice is for everyone in Redstone Town to evacuate. Take your valuables and leave," he said.
"No, that's impossible." Ande shook his head vehemently. "Redstone Town is our home. If we leave, we have no idea where to go or how we'd even survive."
"I've seen too many homeless people. Their lives are miserable beyond belief. The men can only sell their lives as Mercenaries, and the women have to become itinerant prostitutes just to survive."
"We can't accept that."
"It's not just me. No one in Redstone Town would ever accept leaving their home."
"If the people of Redstone Town won't accept the advice to leave, then resistance is the only path left. After all, betting your lives on Montagu's mood isn't a very practical or worthwhile gamble," Fang Zhen said.
"But we... we don't have any real Warriors, and we can't withstand a real war. We're just civilians who've picked up weapons..." Ande grew even more worried.
Ande looked up, seemingly pinning all his hopes on Fang Zhen.
"Sir, you have a way to help us through this crisis, don't you?"
"As long as you have a way to get Redstone Town through this disaster, we'll agree to anything you ask!"
"Is that so?" Fang Zhen thought for a moment, then said, "It's not entirely impossible, but you'll need to do a few things."
"What things?" Ande asked.
Fang Zhen leaned in and said a few words to Ande in a low voice.
"That's all?" Ande was astonished. He seemed amazed. Could these few simple tasks really save Redstone Town from its impending doom?
"That's all. Go do it, then wait for my return," Fang Zhen said.
"Sir, where are you going?" Ande asked, feeling uneasy.
"I'm going to get some equipment," Fang Zhen said, then smiled. "Some high-tech gear for the heavy lifting."
Ande didn't understand what "high-tech" meant and just stared blankly.
But with no other choice, Ande chose to trust Fang Zhen.
...
「Ten hours later.」
Night had fallen some time ago. In the Dark Forest, an army was on the march.
The army numbered over seventy men. Leading the way and clearing the path were mostly grunts and Mercenaries. Their equipment was a hodgepodge; the better-equipped ones had leather armor, while some even had a few mismatched iron components, like a steel helmet or a silver breastplate.
Strictly speaking, their equipment wasn't terrible. They were considered grunts because their morale and bearing were average at best. They didn't march in neat formations and lacked discipline, simply pushing forward in small squads of a few men each.
Behind these grunts, however, it was a different story.
The rear guard consisted of thirty to forty men. At its core were four Full Armor Knights. Each Knight was accompanied by two to three soldiers in full plate armor—veritable tin cans—and five to six elite, well-equipped Warriors with complementary weapon sets.
This force of nearly forty men was the army's true elite core.
And in the center-rear of this army rode a Black Armored Knight who, even at a glance, looked exceptionally imposing.
In a world where the average adult man was only a little over five feet tall, the Black Armored Knight towered at over six-foot-three. He was clad head-to-toe in black plate armor and rode a black warhorse that likely possessed some unnatural bloodline.
The warhorse was also fully armored and abnormally large. Its head reached a height of over six and a half feet, and its hooves were larger than a man's head.
This knight, as burly as a giant, was completely encased in his black armor. The eyes visible through his helm were blood-red—less like a human's and more like the bloodthirsty gaze of a wild beast.
The Black Armored Knight's presence was so powerful that he alone seemed to intimidate the entire army, crushing any thought of defiance.
The army advanced through the Dark Forest.
Suddenly, a low buzzing sound drifted from the sky above the forest.
Within the marching army, someone sensed that something was off and looked up toward the sky.
A gray machine with four spinning rotors hovered in the air above them.
"What is that thing? Some kind of strange bird?" someone couldn't help but mutter.
Of course, they had no idea what the object above their heads was; they couldn't possibly have seen anything like it before.
Because that gray flying machine was a DJI Agras T30 agricultural drone, brought by Fang Zhen from the real world.
