My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 694 Millions in New Year’s Money
In the blink of an eye, the New Year arrived.
This time, everyone had agreed to make time for the celebration, no matter how busy they were. This was especially true for Da Bao, whose research project had just concluded, allowing him to finally enjoy a proper New Year.
On New Year’s Eve, Lin Feng brought the children home to the villa, and they decorated the entire place beautifully. The house, purchased over a decade ago, had appreciated from fifty million to one hundred million, and was now worth four to five hundred million. A gentleman had once offered five hundred million for the villa due to its prime location, but he ultimately left disappointed.
Everyone was busy with preparations, except for Little Bao, who just watched while eating strawberries and bossing everyone around from the sidelines. They put up couplets, pasted the "Fu" character for good fortune, and hung colorful lanterns, working from noon until night.
Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi were in the kitchen preparing the New Year’s Eve dinner. Wen Xiaoya, Second Aunt, Wang Lu, Yan Jie, and Xiaolan all came over to help. The men sat together, shelling vegetables and chatting, the very picture of a large, happy family. Meanwhile, the women in the kitchen gossiped about family matters and their children.
Rui’s eldest son was getting married this year, and his youngest would marry the next. Smiles never left their faces as they spoke. After Rui’s two sons were wed, it would be Jiajun’s two sons’ turn. They had been dating their girlfriends for a year or two, so their weddings were also on the horizon.
That just left Lin Feng’s four children...
Their personal and family circumstances were excellent, and each of them was strong-willed, so their elders didn’t dare to rush them. They would only drop an occasional hint or ask jokingly before letting the subject pass.
Little Bao and Si Bao, the two foodies, snuck into the kitchen whenever they had a chance, looking for tasty treats. Mi Fan and Cai Cai acted as Little Bao’s entourage, happily following her around and calling her ’big sister’ in the sweetest voices, thrilled to receive a small snack in return.
They spent New Year’s Eve together at Lin Feng’s villa. The youngest children ate at a small table in the living room, the young people had another table, and the rest of the adults ate in the dining room.
BANG, BANG, BANG...
The sound of firecrackers erupted outside as dazzling fireworks blossomed in the night sky. Little Bao wanted to go out and set some off.
Lin Feng instructed his four older children, "Keep a close watch on your younger brother and sisters."
The big, lively family waited excitedly for the clock to strike midnight.
"10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2...!"
Someone shouted to Little Bao, "Little Bao, go get your red envelopes!"
Little Bao shrieked with excitement, "Ah, red envelopes!"
Currently, in the extended family, only Little Bao and Lin Jie’s two children were young enough to receive red envelopes. There were six elders: Zhang Yuxi’s parents, Lin Feng’s parents, and the old couple Lin Daan. Then there were ten in the parents’ generation: Lin Feng and his wife, Jiajun and his wife, Rui and his wife, Xiaolan and her husband, and Jie and his wife. Then came the older cousins, who also gave envelopes: Da Bao, Er Bao, San Bao, and Si Bao, along with Jiajun’s two sons, Rui’s two sons and his fiancée, and Xiaolan’s daughter, making another twelve givers.
Little Bao and the other two youngsters received twenty-eight red envelopes in total, and every single one was thick with cash. They were grinning from ear to ear.
She calculated that once her older brothers and sisters got married, wouldn’t she be able to receive even more red envelopes?
She began urging them on cheerfully, "Big brothers and sisters, you have to get married quickly, or I’ll be all grown up!"
The crowd didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Everyone stayed up celebrating until after two in the morning, then began to head home one after another in their cars. Zhang Yuxi’s parents stayed in a guest room at the villa, giving mother and daughter a rare chance to sit down and chat about family life, work, and everything in between.
On the first day of the New Year, the children thought they could sleep in. To their dismay, they were woken up at nine o’clock to eat dumplings and sweet rice balls. After eating, several of them shared a silent understanding and went back to their rooms to lie down, only emerging again when it was time for lunch.
Lin Feng had already prepared the meal and went to wake each of them up.
"No sleeping in on the New Year. After lunch, the whole family is going out for a walk."
Zhang Yuxi added, "You’re young, you need to be active. How about this? Today, your dad and I will buy each of you a New Year’s gift."
Her words instantly invigorated the children. Having reached an age where they no longer received red envelopes, getting a gift from their parents made them feel like little kids again. Everyone’s a big baby at heart these days, right?
"First things first, we need to deposit Little Bao’s New Year’s money," Lin Feng announced.
Years ago, Lin Feng had set up a "Baby Card" account for Little Bao. Over the years, the little girl had become quite the young tycoon. This year, she received money from nearly thirty people. Her four older siblings were generous, as were her grandparents and maternal grandparents.
It came out to a whopping 1,600,000. Lin Feng later added another 60,000 to make the total 1,660,000, a more auspicious-sounding number.
When they went to the bank, Lin Feng, being a VIP member, was personally received by the manager.
"Hello, sir. How may I help you today?"
Lin Feng smiled slightly. "I’m here to deposit my youngest daughter’s New Year’s money."
The manager smiled and led him to a private office to handle the transaction, his tone full of deference. "In the future, if you need any banking services, please remember to ask for me. Or if any of your relatives and friends need assistance, they can also find me."
"Sure," Lin Feng nodded.
Depositing over a million in cash took some time. Sitting in the office, drinking tea and nibbling on small cakes, Little Bao didn’t feel bored at all.
"Dad, I’m going to earn lots and lots of money when I grow up!"
"Then you’d better study hard."
"..."
The process was finished in about half an hour.
After the Lin family left, the bank staff started whispering among themselves.
"Earlier today, a kid came in to deposit two hundred thousand in New Year’s money. That was the most I’d ever seen."
"I never thought someone would come in with even more... over a million! My decades of hard work don’t even add up to half of that."
"And guess how much is already in her account?"
"How much? Tens of millions?"
"Something like that."
"Holy crap!"
"You really can’t tell. The family seems so low-key, but they’re incredibly rich."
"You’re an amateur, you don’t know anything. That watch on the man’s wrist is worth over a million, you know."
The other staffers gasped.
...
Mei City wasn’t particularly large, nor was it small. Its economy had improved in recent years, making it a far cry from what it once was. But it was still considered a low-end third-tier city, or a high-end fourth-tier one.
After depositing the money, the family headed to the mall.
Lin Feng looked at his children and smiled. "Pick whatever you like. Dad’s paying."
The kids swarmed around their parents, eager to start shopping. With their stunning looks, the family drew attention wherever they went, making people wonder if Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi were their parents or their older siblings.
What truly made onlookers marvel, however, was the sight of a tall young man, well over 180cm, carrying a 150cm "little princess." It was certainly a rare sight to see a child that big still being carried by family. Little Bao matter-of-factly leaned against Si Bao, munching on chips, a look of pure joy on her pretty, adorable face.
Da Bao chose a designer backpack, large enough to carry his laptop, keyboard, and other daily necessities.
Er Bao laughed. "Big Brother, you don’t need Mom and Dad to get that. I could have bought it for you."
Da Bao gestured with the bag. "This one’s great. I’m very satisfied."
The backpack’s price was comparable to the Hermès of bags. After paying, Da Bao immediately transferred the contents of his old bag into the new one. True to form, he carried his work laptop with him wherever he went.
Er Bao bought an outfit that she fell in love with at first sight and couldn’t put down. Her fashion sense was always on point, befitting a beautiful, wealthy woman at the forefront of trends.
"I was kind of hoping to find some jewelry I liked," she said with a hint of regret. She and San Bao were polar opposites; Er Bao adored sparkling gemstones, dazzling diamonds, and anything that glittered. Her personal jewelry collection was already filled with countless treasures.
Si Bao bought a pair of sneakers—the store’s pride and joy, the only pair of its kind. The price, accordingly, was just as breathtaking.
San Bao said she didn’t want anything. Unaware of her own natural beauty and having grown up surrounded by luxury, she had become immune to its allure. Besides, Er Bao would occasionally gift her accessories she had designed herself. Dressed head to toe in her family’s brands, she felt no need to add anything new.
Little Bao bought a collector’s doll that was nearly as tall as she was. It had flexible joints and was crafted with delicate, realistic detail. Its price was also astronomically high.
San Bao began examining it. "This is really well-made. This brand is very famous for their dolls." Only the very wealthy could afford one.
Afterward, they bought clothes for Zhang Yuxi’s parents, choosing pieces that each of them liked. The price was secondary; the sentiment was what mattered most.
That evening, Lin Daan had already booked a restaurant for the entire family to have dinner together. After all, the New Year was all about eating and drinking
