My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 686 Buying a House in Jingcheng
The next day, bright and early, Lin Feng got up to make breakfast. His sleep had been disturbed by Si Bao’s sleeping position last night. Thankfully, he had the system, or he would definitely have woken up with a headache.
After making and eating breakfast, Lin Feng went downstairs to a supermarket to buy some groceries to stock the fridge. He also bought dumpling wrappers and fillings so he could make a batch to freeze. It would be convenient for later and would also allow him to bring some to Da Bao. Coincidentally, behind his residential complex, a hutong street was already bustling with people buying produce, leading directly to a farmer’s market.
When Si Bao got up to use the toilet, he discovered that breakfast was ready, but his dad was gone. He hurriedly called him. "Dad, have you left?"
Getting no response, Si Bao wondered if his dad was already on a plane. Just as he finished his breakfast, the door opened. Lin Feng walked in, carrying large and small bags filled with vegetables and meat.
Si Bao quickly went over to help. "Dad, why did you buy so many groceries... Are you making dumplings?"
Lin Feng glanced at him and asked, "Do you have to work today?"
Si Bao checked the time. "Yeah! I’ll take you out for lunch."
Lin Feng shook his head. "No need. I’ll cook lunch; you just come home to eat."
Si Bao craved his dad’s cooking the most; it was torture not being able to have it while he was away from home. Hearing that his dad was going to cook for him filled his heart with delight. "Okay!"
Lin Feng watched his son happily skip out the door, shaking his head with a sigh. He’s so grown up, yet he still acts like a child.
Lin Feng had been cooking for over twenty years. He spent the entire morning not only making dumplings and putting them in the freezer but also preparing a hot meal, setting aside a portion for Da Bao. He sent a message to Si Bao, telling him to come home and eat without waiting, as he was on his way to deliver the food to Da Bao.
After a car ride of over half an hour, Lin Feng once again arrived at the research institute, carrying large and small bags. He still couldn’t get in, so he left everything with the security guard at the gate, called Da Bao, and then left. This time, he had brought a large bag of frozen dumplings, lamb soup, and roasted lamb ribs. He hoped it would warm the boys up. They had grown up in the south, and he wasn’t sure if they had gotten used to the northern climate.
Da Bao hurried to the gate to pick up the delivery. He had expected a simple food container, not so many bags. They had a cafeteria there, and their dorms were equipped with mini-fridges and small kitchens, but no one ever cooked. Among the four brothers, Da Bao and San Bao were the best cooks. When they occasionally had free time, they would show off their skills by preparing a feast.
"Wow, Senior, did your uncle make this? I can tell it’s delicious just from the smell."
"So many handmade dumplings! Your uncle is amazing!"
It was just in time for lunch. Da Bao had his roommate take the frozen dumplings back to their dorm, since he was heading back to get something anyway.
In the cafeteria, his colleagues, trays in hand, started gathering around. They couldn’t help it; the aroma was simply too fragrant, and they had to see what he had.
"Wow, lamb soup! And roasted lamb ribs..."
"Senior, can I have a taste?"
"A taste? Are you serious? There are only a few ribs. If you eat one, what’s our senior supposed to eat?"
"I was just kidding! Senior, you eat... We’ll just enjoy the aroma and satisfy our cravings that way."
Watching Da Bao eat with such relish, they suddenly found their own cafeteria food tasteless. They all started missing their parents’ home-cooked meals...
When Lin Feng got home, Si Bao was busy devouring his food. "Dad, I saved some for you! Come on, eat!"
As Lin Feng ate, he watched Si Bao wolf down his meal and said with affectionate concern, "Look at you. You’re eating as if you’ve been starved for eight lifetimes."
Si Bao claimed his dad didn’t understand. "Dad, it’s just been too long since I’ve had your cooking. It’s so delicious; I’ve missed it so much."
"There are dumplings in the freezer," Lin Feng said. "Pork and cabbage, fragrant mushroom, and celery. If you don’t feel like cooking when you get home, just have some dumplings. There’s also sauce in the fridge. You can add some when you eat noodles, or even just put it on your rice if you don’t want to stir-fry anything. When I get back home, I’ll mail you some good stuff. You can give some to your big brother then."
Si Bao took note of everything. "Dad, when are you leaving?"
"I’m thinking of looking at some properties," Lin Feng said after a moment. "I want to buy a flat or two in Jingcheng. It would be more convenient for you and Da Bao."
Si Bao didn’t know exactly how much money the family had, but he knew it had to be a lot. After all, back when they were still in school, their family had bought a plane worth over two billion yuan just like that. But this was Jingcheng, where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold. A tiny 38-square-meter place could sell for over three million yuan. Buying in the suburbs would be too far from work, but anything closer was prohibitively expensive...
"Dad, I’m old enough to earn my own money and buy a house," he said.
Lin Feng knew exactly how much money his kids had. When they were young, their red packet money alone amounted to several million. Over the years, each of them had amassed at least ten million. The wealthiest was probably Er Bao, the little tycoon, who likely had over a hundred million by now.
Lin Feng hadn’t expected Si Bao to say that. He raised his eyebrows slightly. "All right, then. You buy it."
"I’m having dinner with your uncle’s family tonight. Are you coming?"
With his mouth full, Si Bao replied, "Yeah! I got approval to take this afternoon off, so I have time."
His superiors had been understanding; it was only natural to grant a couple of days off for a family visit.
Lin Jie’s company in Jingcheng was doing quite well. Business was booming, and he had earned a good amount of money over the past year or two. But that wasn’t the most precious thing. His most valuable assets were his friends, with whom he had stayed in close contact and maintained great relationships over all these years.
After Wen Xiaoya gave birth to Mi Fan and Cai Cai, she settled into the role of a full-time, stay-at-home mom. When Lin Feng arrived carrying a basket of fruit, she was busy tidying the house. "Big Brother, Si Bao, you’re here! Come on in!"
As Lin Feng entered, he saw two small children come running over. Mi Fan was about to start first grade, while Cai Cai was still little. Neither dared to speak upon seeing Lin Feng.
It was truly unexpected. Lin Jie and Wen Xiaoya were both so cheerful, yet their two sons were quite introverted.
Wen Xiaoya prompted the children to greet their great-uncle. After calling out their greeting, the two boys scampered back to their room to play.
Lin Feng smiled and asked, "Aren’t you planning to go anywhere for the long holiday?"
Wen Xiaoya laughed. "Nope, we’re doing a seven-day tour of the city."
Although the children seemed reserved to outsiders, they were actually quite a handful and turned the house upside down every day. Just tidying up their rooms and organizing their things left Wen Xiaoya so exhausted she could barely stand straight. Their family didn’t lack money and could easily afford a nanny. Furthermore, Wen Xiaoya’s parents were retired and available to help. Seeing how tired his wife was, Lin Jie had suggested hiring a housekeeper or at least a part-time cleaner instead of troubling her parents, but Wen Xiaoya refused. It was only two children; if other mothers could handle it, so could she.
Besides, her brother-in-law had raised four children all by himself and never once complained about how difficult or tiring it was. She also wanted to do everything for her children personally. Perhaps if she did, they would all grow up to be successful.
Si Bao had just sat down, intending to eat some fruit, when Wen Xiaoya started asking him about his girlfriend while she tidied up.
"I’ll just... go check on what the kids are doing in their room..."
Wen Xiaoya was left speechless.
