My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 672 - Compensation
After saying her goodbyes and watching them board the plane, Xiao Bao breathed a sigh of relief.
"What’s the matter?" Lin Feng asked, holding his daughter’s hand. "You look relieved."
Xiao Bao replied like a little adult, "Sigh, I don’t really like playing with Mi Fan. He’s too little. I prefer playing with my older brothers, sisters, and my classmates."
It’s a strange thing about children. They love playing with older kids, even if it means getting brushed off, but for some reason, they dislike playing with anyone younger.
Lin Feng smiled. "When you were little, didn’t you love playing with your older siblings? Mi Fan only wants to play with you because he likes you."
Er Bao laughed. "When you were little, you were even clingier than Mi Fan, and honestly, pretty annoying. But what could we do? You’re our little sister, after all."
"Oh, stop it," Zhang Yuxi said flatly. "You all doted on her nonstop. With you kids around, your father and I never had to lift a finger."
Er Bao pouted playfully. "Mom, I was just joking with Xiao Bao."
Zhang Yuxi didn’t approve of such jokes. With four children from her first pregnancy, she and her husband tried their best to be fair to each of them. A child might be young, but words and actions you consider harmless can have a significant impact. Sometimes, you can hurt people without realizing it, especially your own family.
Thus, Zhang Yuxi said coolly, "Don’t make jokes like that in the future. What if Xiao Bao takes it to heart?"
Er Bao saw Xiao Bao pouting, looking genuinely unhappy, and quickly tried to comfort her. "Big Sister was just teasing you. Don’t mind me, okay?"
Xiao Bao looked at her. "I want a toy."
This is blatant opportunism, isn’t it? Er Bao smiled. "What do you want?"
Perhaps it was because they had too much money and no other way to spend it, but the older siblings were incredibly generous with Xiao Bao. It was as if they were afraid she wouldn’t spend their money, so they transferred funds to her from time to time.
Xiao Bao tilted her head and thought for a moment. "I haven’t decided yet. I’ll tell you when I figure it out."
Er Bao hugged her and kissed the top of her head. "Okay, just tell me when you’ve decided!"
By the time they got home, it was already evening. Xiao Bao, despite being in elementary school, still needed her two older sisters to help her wash up for bed. Zhang Yuxi was seething with frustration, but Lin Feng told her to just turn a blind eye. "Let it be. It’s not like you can do anything about it."
Zhang Yuxi lightly smacked her husband. "What kind of talk is that? The quadruplets are humble and aren’t wasteful, but look at what they’ve turned Xiao Bao into!"
Xiao Bao was truly living in a gilded cage, getting the best of everything she wanted. Even at her young age, she had a sizable collection of luxury goods and jewelry. The main issue was that these were all gifts from her older siblings. Though they were told to stop in public, they couldn’t change their ways in private. Zhang Yuxi was helpless. Her husband wouldn’t intervene, leaving her to fume with anxiety and anger all by herself.
Seeing his wife was upset and had fallen silent, Lin Feng felt a sense of helplessness. The quadruplets had all made significant achievements in their respective fields. They were no longer children he could control, and there was nothing he could do. As the saying goes, a grown son is his own man.
After talking for a while and getting no response from her husband, Zhang Yuxi stopped and said, "Have Da Bao, Er Bao, and San Bao move out."
Lin Feng was taken aback. "Why? The kids get along so well. Besides, how many more years can the older ones play with Xiao Bao? They’ll be getting married soon enough."
"Once they have their own families, they’ll all be busy. Xiao Bao’s schoolwork will get heavier, too. Things won’t stay like this forever."
This was the real reason he turned a blind eye; he sensed these days were numbered.
Zhang Yuxi considered his point and saw the logic in it. She sighed. "Fine, fine. Let it be."
San Bao had previously mentioned wanting to hold a concert, but after the New Year, she decided to become a music producer and set up her own studio. She became incredibly busy. Er Bao also had her own work, returning to her job on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year.
Xiao Bao went back to school. As the little sister of several famous figures, she was always in the spotlight. Her teachers initially had high expectations, assuming she was a top student like her siblings. Soon, however, they had a nagging feeling she was actually an underachiever.
Nonetheless, Xiao Bao was quite a character. She was a clever and lively child, and a real social butterfly.
One day, Xiao Bao brought a beautiful limited-edition doll to school. Er Bao had even made its clothes. It was her new favorite toy, and she wanted to show her classmates. But then, a boy grabbed it and threw it on the ground, breaking it. Xiao Bao, who was normally friendly with everyone, flew into a rage and beat the boy until he was trembling.
The boy had just transferred to the school. His family was well-off, and he was a chubby kid who loved to cause trouble. In his first week, multiple classmates had already reported him to the teacher. He hadn’t interacted much with Xiao Bao because they sat far apart, but after a recent seating change, they ended up at desks right next to each other.
Xiao Bao hit him so hard she knocked out one of his teeth. The sight of his bloody mouth terrified all the other children. Xiao Bao and the boy were both stunned. The boy, more frightened than hurt, frantically made a video call to his mother on his smartwatch.
"Mom! I got beat up! My tooth fell out, and there’s so much blood! Boo-hoo-hoo..."
"Wait for me, sweetie! Mommy’s coming right now!"
The teacher hurried over. After getting a handle on the situation, she was at her wit’s end and immediately took the boy to the school infirmary.
Xiao Bao’s face was pale with fright. She called Lin Feng. "Daddy, boo-hoo-hoo... I knocked out my classmate’s tooth... There was so much blood..."
Lin Feng, who was in the middle of preparing dinner, let out a gasp and dropped his knife. "Are you hurt?"
Xiao Bao shook her head. "No, but he snatched my toy and broke it..."
Lin Feng untied his apron. "It’s okay. Daddy’s on his way."
When the teacher returned with the injured boy, Lin Feng had already arrived and learned what had happened. In this matter, he stood by his daughter. Hitting someone was wrong, of course, but the other party had provoked her first.
Seeing Lin Feng, the teacher said, "Good timing. The other boy’s parent will be here soon. You two should talk."
Lin Feng asked about the boy’s tooth. "Is he okay?"
The school doctor shook his head. "He’s fine. That tooth was already loose and about to fall out. Xiao Bao just happened to knock it out."
Less than five minutes later, the other parent came rushing in, her heels clicking on the floor as she hurried to check on her precious son. After the teacher explained the sequence of events, the woman pursed her lips. "Even if he broke a toy, that’s no reason to hit someone, is it?"
Lin Feng asked, "Then what should have been done?"
"You just pay for it, that’s all!" the woman retorted. "Hitting someone is wrong. You need to apologize to my son and pay for compensation." She added with a glare, "You’re lucky it was a baby tooth. If it had been a permanent one, you’d really be in for it."
Lin Feng countered, "My daughter was wrong to hit him, but your son was right to intentionally start trouble and break her toy?"
"Let’s handle one thing at a time," Lin Feng replied coolly. "We can apologize, and we can offer compensation. But your son started this. First, you will compensate us for my daughter’s toy. *Then* we can discuss apologies and anything further."
The woman glanced at the exquisite doll in Xiao Bao’s hands. "How much?"
Lin Feng stated flatly, "Eighty thousand. The clothes were custom-made, so there’s no charge for those."
The woman, along with everyone else in the room, was stunned into silence. That was absurdly expensive.
