My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 662: Giving the Pig a Bath!
When Xiao Bao carried her little stool over, Lin Feng had already started fishing.
Despite her fair and chubby appearance, which resembled a little dumpling, Xiao Bao ran like the wind. She raced over with her small stool, shouting, "Daddy, I’m here!"
Lin Feng cautioned her to slow down. "Come, this is your fishing rod. Let’s fish together."
Xiao Bao sat on her little stool while Lin Feng stood, and the father and daughter began to fish quietly side by side. He was tall and distinguished, with an air of refinement. Dressed in a black shirt, he looked handsome and steady—a true delight to the eyes.
"Wow, he’s so handsome! I’m totally into him!"
"I’ve decided. From now on, Director Lin is my new husband. Just looking at him gives me ideas!"
"How can a dad of five look so young and handsome? How does he do it?"
"Forget ’National Dad,’ he should be the ’Nation’s Husband’!"
There were quite a few fish in the pond, so the success rate of catching one was pretty high. And sure enough, Xiao Bao was the first to land one. As the fishing rod jerked, she shouted excitedly, "Daddy, there’s a fish, there’s a fish!"
Lin Feng signaled for her to pull on the rod.
Xiao Bao stood up and excitedly tugged at the rod, and Lin Feng came over to help. He had made the small fishing rod for her, never expecting she would catch a fish before he did.
"Ah, there really is a wiggling fish!"
The fish was only as big as Xiao Bao’s palm, but it made both father and daughter very happy. Soon, she caught a second, and then a third...
Lin Feng, on the other hand, hadn’t caught a single one. In contrast, Xiao Bao’s luck was incredibly good. Not only was Lin Feng surprised, but the audience members were stunned too. Was this a joke? Had the production team set this up? It seemed unlikely, as the father-daughter pair certainly didn’t lack viewership.
At this moment, Xi Mi and his father, along with Xing Yun and her father, came over. Seeing Xiao Bao’s bountiful harvest, they all expressed their surprise. Lin Feng handed the fishing rods over to them, watched over Xiao Bao for a moment, and then went to make fish soup.
Xiao Bao was a growing child, so Lin Feng paid close attention to her diet.
Scaling the fish, removing the innards, pan-frying it, and pouring in boiling water... His movements were graceful, fluid, and practiced. It was obvious he often cooked at home. He made a large pot, and in less than five minutes of cooking, the soup turned a milky white. On his way back to the house, Lin Feng casually plucked some scallions from the roadside.
They were staying for three days, and this was only the second. He wondered what task the evening would bring.
After the fish soup was ready, Lin Feng called Xiao Bao to bring Xi Mi and Xing Yun over to have some. He served each child a small bowl, sprinkled with a bit of chopped scallion. He also saved a portion for Li Kaixin and Jiao Jiao.
The three fathers sat together, and Lin Feng listened to them talk about the hardships they faced cooking that day. When they glanced at Lin Feng’s honeycomb briquette stove, their complaints abruptly died.
Compared to them, Lin Feng is the truly pitiful one... Has the production team lost all humanity? To give a man of his stature such a tiny stove...
Lin Feng glanced at the time. It was about when he should be cooking, so he turned and asked the cameraman, "How do we get ingredients for dinner?"
The cameraman remained expressionless. Lin Feng stood up, announcing he was going for a walk and taking Xiao Bao with him. The other fathers had nothing else to do, so they decided to tag along.
Jiao Jiao’s dad and Li Kaixin’s dad were just bringing their own kids for fish soup when they ran into the group. Lin Feng greeted them and said the soup was being kept warm on the stove. "Be careful when the kids drink it. The soup is hot, and the porcelain bowls are, too."
The dads thanked him profusely, but Lin Feng just smiled.
He said he was going for a stroll, but he was actually going to find ingredients. Time for another round at the place where they did the tasks before! The two fathers who had followed exchanged glances, hesitated for a moment, and then continued to follow. Lin Feng, with some foresight, had brought one of the production team’s baskets with him, which now came in handy.
Next, Lin Feng found the old woman who the production team used to assign tasks. He pulled out three hundred yuan to buy a chicken. Three hundred yuan was more than enough for a free-range chicken. The old woman examined the money carefully to ensure it was real. Once confirmed, she smiled and said, "Go on, pick one yourselves."
The chicken coop was reasonably clean, with a dozen or so chickens clucking inside. Xi Mi’s dad and Xing Yun’s dad were stunned by Lin Feng’s move. Uh, you can play a variety show like this?
Lin Feng put down the basket and, with a suave leap, vaulted into the chicken coop. The chickens immediately scattered, flapping and clucking in a frenzy. Lin Feng rolled up his sleeves and scanned the area, his eyes locking onto a plump, foodie hen in the corner, completely oblivious as it pecked at its food. He walked over, shooing away the other chickens that flocked around him.
By the time the foodie hen sensed something was wrong, it was too late. With a swift movement, Lin Feng grabbed it by the wings.
"CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK... CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK..."
Lin Feng then picked up a dried vine from the yard and tied the chicken’s wings with it. The chicken stopped struggling and became docile.
Just then, the director, who had heard the commotion, sent the host rushing over to announce the next task. If they failed, everything they had would be confiscated. If they succeeded, the production team would turn a blind eye to what they’d acquired!
There were five task cards in total, and the children had to complete the task with their parents for it to count. This time, all the tasks were related to animals, such as herding sheep or driving ducks home.
The task Xiao Bao drew was to give a pig a bath!
Give. A pig. A bath!
If it hadn’t been decided by drawing a card, one might suspect the production team had arranged this specifically for Lin Feng. Clueless, Xiao Bao was still quite happy about it.
Lin Feng’s mouth twitched as he took his daughter’s hand and led her to one of the farmhouses. With the Lunar New Year only about a month away, the pigs were nowhere near as cute as Xiao Bao had imagined. When they arrived at the pigpen, they were greeted by a huge, fat pig. Xiao Bao’s expression soured, as if she’d been catfished.
The pigpen and the pig had already been cleaned by the staff, so it wasn’t dirty or smelly; they just had to go through the motions. Even so, Lin Feng took the work very seriously. Xiao Bao helped from the side, listening as Lin Feng told her stories about his childhood.
"When I was little, back in my hometown, I used to cut pigweed and cook slop for the pigs..."
"Pigs eat grass?" Xiao Bao asked, tilting her head.
Lin Feng laughed as he rinsed the pigpen with a hose. "They do. There are several kinds of grass in the countryside that pigs can eat. We’d chop it up and mix it with their feed."
"You know what sweet potatoes are?"
Xiao Bao nodded. "I do."
Lin Feng turned down the water pressure and started spraying the pig. It was very docile and didn’t make a fuss, just grunted softly. "When we grew too many sweet potatoes to eat, we’d wash the bruised ones, chop them up, and cook them with the pig feed.
"Back then, your great-grandmother raised several pigs and had to cook two huge pots every night. Winter wasn’t so bad, but summer was miserable. It was so hot and stuffy, just unbearable."
It wasn’t just Xiao Bao who listened intently to Lin Feng’s words; the audience did too. At the same time, his story resonated with people who had similar experiences.
"So Lin Feng used to raise pigs too. Our experiences are similar, just off by a few billion yuan."
"When I was a kid, we’d cook pig slop until two or three in the morning, starting right after dinner."
"Life was so carefree back then. I get so nostalgic whenever I think about it!"
"Some people are destined for success. A man like Director Lin will succeed no matter what he does!"
"Director Lin has raised Xiao Bao so well, not at all dramatic and fussy like Jiao Jiao!"
In this episode, Jiao Jiao’s dramatic behavior was certainly a highlight. She only cared about playing during tasks and got angry when she finished last. She even threw a tantrum because her father didn’t know how to use the wood-fired stove.
Both girls were pampered, and neither family was short on money. Lin Feng’s assets exceeded all of theirs combined, and Xiao Bao was the only one of the children who earned her own money, making her the wealthiest of the group. Yet, she didn’t have Jiao Jiao’s spoiled attitude, nor the air of superiority that Li Kaixin sometimes displayed.
After the first episode aired, they gained a wave of fans who had previously been neutral or critical.
Having completed the task with Lin Feng, Xiao Bao happily ran off to play with her good friend Xi Mi. Lin Feng, for his part, went home to cook...
Some viewers commented:
"The others are worried about just getting something to eat. Director Lin is worried about how to eat well."
