My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 657: Is the Production Team This Ruthless?
Everything on the bed was new, and there was a task card on the table. Lin Feng put down his suitcase, looked around, and picked up the card.
Xiao Bao flopped onto the bed and asked worriedly, "Dad, is this going to collapse?"
"It shouldn’t," Lin Feng answered. "This looks very sturdy!"
Seeing Xiao Bao rolling around happily, he turned his head and asked, "You like it a lot, huh?"
Xiao Bao nodded. "I love it! It’s like a secret base or a tent!"
Lin Feng had been a bit worried that Xiao Bao would reject it and had already thought of some comforting words to say. "There’s a task card here. It says we have to find ingredients for dinner." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"If we can’t find any, we’ll have to skip dinner and go hungry."
Xiao Bao sat up with a start. "Dad, let me see what we need!"
Subtitle: For a little foodie, eating is what’s most important.
The ingredients listed were lettuce, carrots, cabbage, and onions—only four items.
After setting his things down, Lin Feng took Xiao Bao to look for the food. "When we came in, Dad saw a vegetable patch," he said. "Let’s go check it out."
Holding Lin Feng’s hand, Xiao Bao and her father ran into Jiao Jiao and her dad on the path. They were surprised to learn that Lin Feng was staying in a thatched hut built by the production crew.
Jiao Jiao’s father was astonished. "For real? Is the production crew that harsh?"
Hearing this, Jiao Jiao chimed in, "Dad, I want to see the thatched hut! It must be so cool."
Jiao Jiao’s father’s task was also to find vegetables. Their list was different from Lin Feng’s, except for the lettuce.
Walking further, they ran into Xi Mi’s group, and a little later, they encountered Li Kaixin and his father. Just like that, everyone had gathered.
The parents compared their task cards.
"I have an idea," Lin Feng proposed. "If any of us sees the vegetables another group needs, let’s pick them. Then we can meet back here and trade."
Everyone thought it was a great suggestion, so they took their children and fanned out to search.
Lin Feng had an excellent memory and remembered clearly what he had seen along their route. He took the basket prepared by the crew and made his way to the vegetable patch. The lettuce hadn’t been tended to, its outer leaves rotting, so Lin Feng rolled up his sleeves and got to work.
Xiao Bao watched him, ready to imitate his every move and help.
"I can handle this, Xiao Bao. Why don’t you go pick the cabbages over there?" he said.
"Okay!" Xiao Bao replied loudly.
In no time, Lin Feng had snapped off seven or eight heads of lettuce, peeled away the rotten leaves, and placed them in the basket.
Meanwhile, Xiao Bao was struggling with a head of cabbage...
Subtitle: You can do it!
Lin Feng called out to Xiao Bao and gestured how to properly snap the stalk. This was a head of cabbage, also untended, surrounded by so many loose leaves that it looked huge at first glance.
Xiao Bao, who was surprisingly strong, hugged a head and gave it a twist. But she gave it such a forceful tug that she tumbled backward, landing on the ground with a PLOP. She sat there for a moment, hugging the cabbage, looking completely stunned.
The crew even slowed down this clip, perfectly capturing Xiao Bao’s dazed and adorable expression.
Lin Feng turned his head and laughed shamelessly. "Need Dad to help?"
Xiao Bao waved her hand dismissively. "Nope! I can do it!"
She stood up, brushed off her bottom, and toddled over to the next head of cabbage. This time, she copied her previous move, hugging it tightly and pulling.
Lin Feng glanced over, holding back another laugh. "Xiao Bao, I’m going to check for carrots nearby."
Still wrestling with the cabbage, Xiao Bao grunted, "Go ahead!"
*"Haha, I don’t know why but I’m cracking up..."*
*"Xiao Bao is so down-to-earth, not like a star at all... haha."*
*"I used to harvest them like this as a kid, but we had sickles back then, which made it easy."*
*"Someone help my little cutie! She’s trying so hard... hahaha..."*
After finally wrestling three cabbages free, Xiao Bao got up to find Lin Feng.
"Dad! Dad! Are there any carrots? Huh?"
"Yep! Wanna come over?" Lin Feng said.
"I’m already coming!" Xiao Bao shouted.
By now, Xiao Bao was getting into the spirit of things and eagerly took on the task of pulling carrots.
"Dad, leave this to me! I’m super strong!" she declared.
Lin Feng moved aside. "Alright, we probably need about ten."
Xiao Bao nodded seriously. "Okay, watch me!"
"Hyaah, I am SUPERMAN!!!"
Xiao Bao got busy pulling carrots, but after struggling for a while without success, her face filled with shock. She probably hadn’t expected that such small carrots could be so difficult to pull.
Lin Feng noticed an orange tree nearby. There were two trees in total, which looked like they had already been picked over, leaving only the less appealing fruit. Lin Feng eyed them, deciding to pick a couple.
While Xiao Bao was still battling the carrots, Lin Feng had already picked four or five oranges...
Just then, Jiao Jiao and her father arrived.
Xiao Bao was covered in mud, a clear sign of her hard work. Jiao Jiao, by contrast, only had slightly dirty shoes from looking for vegetables earlier. Among the four children, she was the only one who had been picking flowers on the side instead of helping with the task.
Jiao Jiao’s father came over. "Let me help you!"
By this point, Xiao Bao was sweaty from the effort. She wiped her forehead and said, "Thank you, Uncle!" Her hands were muddy, and she’d smeared dirt all over her face.
"Go play with my daughter," Jiao Jiao’s father told Xiao Bao. "Uncle’s got this!"
Xiao Bao said, "Oh," and then shouted, "Dad, Uncle and Jiao Jiao are here!"
Lin Feng came over, saw the mud on his daughter’s forehead, and took a wet wipe from his backpack to clean her face. "Tired?"
Xiao Bao nodded, her big eyes watery. "Dad, I’m hungry."
Suddenly, Lin Feng realized something. We don’t have a stove to cook with back at the hut...
But he pushed the thought aside for now. First, he needed to gather up their harvest.
Lin Feng collected the cabbages and carrots, and together with Jiao Jiao and her father, they headed to the designated meeting spot.
The first to arrive were Xing Yun and her father.
Xing Yun’s dad smiled. "You can tell just by looking at Xiao Bao that she’s done a lot of work."
"She loves to keep busy," Lin Feng replied with a hint of pride. "She’s got endless energy."
Xing Yun, the little princess, was very well-behaved, clinging to her dad, likely out of shyness.
"I found a pond earlier, and there were fish in it," Xing Yun’s dad mentioned.
Kids love that sort of thing, and Xiao Bao perked up immediately. Before she could even ask, Lin Feng already knew what she was thinking and cut her off.
"Not now. We have to cook in a bit. After we eat, if there’s time, we can go over."
Xiao Bao rubbed her belly and reluctantly agreed.
Meanwhile, Jiao Jiao was pestering her dad relentlessly, wanting to go see the fish in the pond. Her father tried his best to talk her down, and with Lin Feng and Xing Yun’s dad also chiming in to coax her, Jiao Jiao finally fell silent, pouting in resignation. Clearly, the little princess was not happy.
Soon, Xi Mi and his father arrived, followed by Li Kaixin and his dad. Everyone exchanged greetings and traded the vegetables they’d collected, successfully completing their tasks.
Next came cooking...
*Cooking?*
But how am I supposed to cook without a pot or a stove?
Lin Feng looked toward Xi Mi’s father, asking to borrow their pot and stove and offering to cook for Xi Mi and his father as well. When children like to play together, their parents naturally grow closer too.
Xi Mi’s housing was decent; it was a one-bedroom, one-living-room house with a proper pot and stove. Li Kaixin and his father lived in a luxurious two-story house. Jiao Jiao’s and Xi Mi’s places both had their own small courtyards and were quite nice.
"I’m not very familiar with this kind of stove," Xi Mi’s father said to Lin Feng. "Do you know how to use it?"
"If you don’t either, then we’re in trouble."
It was an old-fashioned, countryside-style stove, which didn’t pose much of a challenge for Lin Feng.
"I can use it. I lived in the countryside for a while when I was younger, and this is what we used for cooking."
Xi Mi’s dad was relieved. "That’s really great!"
Lin Feng started the fire with deft movements, and it wasn’t long before the stove was lit.
"I’ll get this going," Lin Feng said to Xi Mi’s father. "Why don’t you wash the vegetables? I’ll come chop them in a minute."
