My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 642: Xiao Bao gets injured
"I’m right here!"
Lin Feng looked up to see Xiaobao’s smiling face, and he immediately breathed a sigh of relief. But his relief was quickly replaced by exasperation.
He pursed his lips and asked, "Xiaobao, did you hear Daddy calling for you just now?"
Xiaobao, still immersed in her joy, replied, "I heard you!"
Lin Feng struggled to keep his expression pleasant. "Then why didn’t you respond?"
Xiaobao tilted her head. "Because I was climbing a tree and needed to concentrate."
She said it with such an adorable expression that Lin Feng nearly choked on his frustration. What a little troublemaker! Couldn’t she tell how anxiously everyone was looking for her?
Lin Feng didn’t lose his temper, but his expression darkened slightly. "What are you doing up there?" he asked. "Looking for a bird’s nest?"
Xiaobao said smugly, "Yep! Dad, look at me! Aren’t I amazing?"
Lin Feng gave a slight nod, watching Xiaobao with his arms folded. Everyone around could see he was angry. Only Xiaobao, lost in her own happy world, failed to notice and continued to climb even higher.
The makeup artist, the on-set director, and others watched with wide eyes, constantly yelling for Xiaobao to be careful.
Xiaobao scrambled upward with all her might. The tree trunk wasn’t too thick, so it was an easy climb. The problem was that she was already quite high up. What if she lost her footing and fell? The on-set director immediately ordered people to place props underneath the tree to cushion a potential fall.
Lin Feng remained expressionless, his gaze fixed on Xiaobao’s every move. Having undergone the second phase of Purification and Marrow Cleansing, his strength and speed far surpassed that of an ordinary person. Even if Xiaobao were to fall, he was confident he could catch her. Seeing the radiant, excited smile on his daughter’s face, Lin Feng couldn’t bring himself to get angry, no matter how upset he was.
This little rascal Xiaobao is always getting into trouble. She’s even more of a handful than the quads! I really don’t know what to do with her.
Xiaobao finally reached the nest. She peeked inside and saw two small eggs that looked a bit like quail eggs.
"I see them! They’re real bird eggs! They’re so tiny!"
Seeing her excitement, everyone below feared she might carelessly fall. A chorus of voices urged her to come down at once. Satisfied, Xiaobao began to slide down. It was only when she looked down that she got a fright, her little face instantly turning pale. Goodness, she hadn’t even realized she had climbed so high!
Luckily, Xiaobao had experience with wire harnesses and wasn’t afraid of heights. As she clung to the trunk and slid down bit by bit, the hearts of those watching below were in their throats. She absolutely couldn’t get hurt; they hadn’t finished filming the movie yet. Everything had been going so smoothly, only to hit this snag at the last moment.
The trunk was too wide, and she didn’t know how to get down. Jumping was obviously not an option; she would definitely be injured. The on-set director had already started arranging for help, planning to form a human ladder to get her down.
Lin Feng, who had been standing motionlessly with his arms crossed, finally spoke up.
"I’ll do it."
With tears welling in the corners of her eyes, Xiaobao clung to a branch, looking pitifully at her father. "Daddy..."
Lin Feng’s heart softened with a sigh.
He nimbly climbed up, scooped up Xiaobao with one arm, and used his other hand to control their descent. In less than three seconds, they were safely on the ground. Xiaobao pouted, looking wronged.
Lin Feng gave a slight nod to the crew. "Sorry for the trouble Xiaobao caused everyone."
Everyone waved it off, remarking that children Xiaobao’s age were naturally playful. The on-set director, who had been the most worried on the crew, was the only one to admonish her. "Xiaobao, from now on, you have to tell us where you’re going, understand?"
Xiaobao realized her mistake. Lowering her head, she said quietly, "I understand..."
The director quickly softened his tone. "This is a forest; there could be wild animals around. What would you do if one of them snatched you away while you were running around?"
Lin Feng felt Xiaobao shiver in his arms. Finally, he announced, "Let’s take a short break. We need to prepare for the shoot."
Lin Feng took Xiaobao back to the tent and watched her in silence. Xiaobao kept her head down and apologized softly, "Daddy, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have climbed that tree without telling anyone... From now on, I’ll always tell you and the crew where I’m going... I won’t make the same mistake again. Please don’t be angry, okay? Can you forgive me this one time?"
Lin Feng had already forgiven her, but he had to take a firm stance on the matter. Heh, she’s quick enough to admit she’s wrong. Look at that little mouth babbling on.
Lin Feng sighed heavily and asked with a stern face, "Do you really understand your mistake?"
Xiaobao nodded vigorously. "I really do. I promise I won’t do it again."
But that look on her face clearly says, ’I’d do it again!’
Lin Feng didn’t believe her for a second. "Fine, Daddy will believe you this time. But if it happens again, I’m telling Mommy!"
"Okay!" Xiaobao quickly agreed. Then, she started wheedling him. "So, Daddy, can we not tell Mommy about what happened today, please?"
Lin Feng remained impassive.
Xiaobao continued to plead. "Please, Daddy? I love you the most! The most, most, most!"
Seeing that was enough, Lin Feng feigned defeat. "All right, then!"
Xiaobao beamed. "Daddy, I love you the most!" She hopped up cheerfully. "Daddy, I’m going to get my makeup done."
Left alone, Lin Feng sighed helplessly. He had never worried this much, not even when the quads were young.
That evening, the shoot was underway. It went very smoothly, lasting from just after four o’clock until seven, when they finally wrapped up.
"Ah, Xiaobao’s hurt!"
Lin Feng was the first to rush over. "Where are you hurt?"
Xiaobao looked down, startled. "Ah!"
Lin Feng saw that her elbow and palm were scraped raw and bleeding. A quick check revealed that her knees and shins were scraped up and bleeding as well. It must have happened during the fall she took for the scene earlier. He picked Xiaobao up and carried her to the tent, just as someone from the crew approached with a first-aid kit.
Lin Feng shook his head. "I brought my own."
His first-aid kit was far more sophisticated than the crew’s. When he opened it, it was full of various bottles and jars. Lin Feng had concocted them himself in his spare time after Xiaobao started school, just in case she got injured. On previous shoots, any injuries had been minor scrapes, easily treated with a bit of disinfectant and a bandage. This time, however, the abrasions were quite large. Lin Feng took out some iodine to disinfect them.
His voice was gentle. "Xiaobao, this might sting a little. Just bear with it."
Xiaobao nodded, her little face a bit pale.
While tending to her, Lin Feng spoke to the on-set director. "We should probably pack up and head back now."
Seeing that it was still early, the director called for everyone to start packing up.
Although the iodine itself didn’t sting, Xiaobao’s face scrunched up in pain as her father wiped the wounds. Lin Feng’s heart ached. "Hang in there. It’ll be over in a moment."
Lin Feng had Xiaobao in his middle age. Unlike with the quads, he had been there for the entire pregnancy and birth. He had cared for her every step of the way, from the moment she came into the world. By then, the quads were already in junior high and didn’t need as much of his attention. He had devoted most of his energy to Xiaobao, and since she was a mischievous child, he had his fair share of worries. No parent can bear to see their child suffer even the slightest injury; they would rather take the pain themselves.
"Just bear with it a little longer. Our Xiaobao is the bravest girl, right?"
After wiping the wounds with iodine, Lin Feng applied a white hemostatic powder. It stung badly, but its effect was immediate.
"Xiaobao, this medicine might hurt. You have to be brave!"
Xiaobao sniffled, psyching herself up. "Okay, I’m the bravest!"
The moment the powder touched her skin, Xiaobao let out a howl. "AHH! That hurts so much!"
Lin Feng worked quickly, and as Xiaobao was crying out, he swiftly treated the other wounds. She tried to pull her leg back, but Lin Feng held it steady.
"It hurts so much, Daddy! No more medicine! *Sob, sob...*"
By the time Lin Feng finished treating the wounds, Xiaobao was dazed from the pain, tears streaming down her face.
"All done!" Lin Feng picked her up and soothed her. "There, there. It’s all better."
Xiaobao complained, "That medicine hurt so much!"
Lin Feng nodded. "I know, but you endured it. You’re so brave!"
Xiaobao sniffled. "So, Daddy... you’re not angry anymore, right?"
"Mad about what?" Lin Feng asked. Getting hurt on set? I can’t blame her for that.
Seizing the opportunity, Xiaobao quickly added, "About climbing the tree today!"
Lin Feng’s heart melted. "Okay, Daddy’s not angry anymore."
Xiaobao giggled, and her completely carefree expression left Lin Feng at a loss for whether to laugh or cry.
