My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 625 Xiao Bao’s Graduation Ceremony
In the blink of an eye, it was December.
"My Family" had accumulated a box office of 4.8 billion yuan. For a low-budget film costing only a few million, this result was an unexpected windfall. Subsequently, a slew of films with similar themes were rushed into production, but they all flopped spectacularly.
「Two years passed in the blink of an eye.」
Little Bao graduated from kindergarten and was about to start elementary school. A lot had happened in those two years. The four elder siblings had managed to complete four years of coursework, earning all their intended degrees. This left them with plenty of time to attend Little Bao’s graduation ceremony.
It was also during these two years that Zhang Yuxi realized her long-standing plan: the school was officially upgraded to a 211 university. With the expansion and renovation plans completed, it was set to attract even more students in the coming year. At the same time, the school’s ranking leaped into the top fifty in the country. Zhang Yuxi’s wish was to see her school enter the top ten in her lifetime.
Life is like that; it seems unchanging on the surface, but in reality, things are quietly evolving.
Little Bao had shot up in height over the past two years, now standing over one and a half meters tall! She was a full head taller than her peers. During these years, Little Bao starred in several critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies and TV dramas. She gained a huge following of "mom fans," "sister-in-law fans," "brother-in-law fans," and "grandmother fans."
Her boisterous personality had been tempered significantly by her acting career, and she now carried herself like a little adult. Her pampered nature, however, hadn’t changed one bit. At home, she was waited on hand and foot. Lin Feng, having a daughter in his middle age, doted on her as much as he possibly could. Still, Little Bao knew where to draw the line and was remarkably hardworking and resilient when it came to filming.
The graduation ceremony was tomorrow. The four elder siblings were due to arrive home tonight, but not until after one in the morning. Little Bao insisted on waiting up for them. Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi tried to talk her out of it, but she wouldn’t listen.
Lin Feng eventually coaxed her, "How about this? You go to sleep first, and when your brothers and sisters get home, Daddy will wake you up, okay?"
Little Bao nodded reluctantly.
After playing until past ten, Little Bao truly couldn’t stay awake any longer. Clutching a toy, she drifted into a deep sleep mid-sentence.
Once she was asleep, Lin Feng went to tidy the children’s rooms.
"There’s no need, honey. I’ve already taken care of them!"
Lin Feng took a look and was very satisfied. "You did a great job, honey!"
This teasing remark earned him a flurry of playful punches from Zhang Yuxi.
Although the family didn’t have a nanny, they didn’t need one with an all-around husband like Lin Feng. Zhang Yuxi, who was never very skilled at housework to begin with, had become practically useless at it over the years, usually just helping out here and there. The siblings’ rooms were actually already tidy, just needing a quick dusting and straightening up.
Lin Feng stood up. "I’m going to make a late-night snack for the kids, then I’ll head out to pick them up."
Zhang Yuxi had been preoccupied with the school for the past few years. Now that she finally had some free time, she looked back and realized just how much she had neglected her husband.
"What can I do to help?"
"You can pick these vegetables and soak them in salt water."
"Okay."
The yard was full of vegetables grown by Lin Feng, making the family basically self-sufficient. Bored with just gardening, he had even dug a pond in the yard and filled it with small fish. If it weren’t for the smell, Lin Feng would have wanted to raise chickens and ducks, too.
「One winter morning two years ago.」
Big White and Fatty passed away in their sleep, nestled closely together in their bed. The family had been mentally prepared, but when it actually happened, it was still difficult to accept, and they grieved for a long time. After cremating Big White and Fatty, they buried their ashes under a tree in the yard. They erected a small headstone with their photos, and every time they passed by, they would greet them as if they were still there. When Little Bao went into the yard to enjoy the cool air, she would still talk to them. In the two years since, they hadn’t adopted any more cats or dogs.
After busying themselves in the kitchen for a while, the couple went to bed. Lin Feng set an alarm, and when it went off, he drove to the airport to wait for his children.
While still in school, the siblings had been wooed by major companies offering high-paying positions with annual salaries in the millions. But not being in need of money, they had temporarily declined all offers. Da Bao had already decided to return to China to pursue scientific research. Er Bao was focused on managing her own company, building her brand, and helping it grow stronger. San Bao planned to continue her studies for a while, aiming to enter a broader field. Si Bao was already on the national team, and his future as a coach was practically set in stone. Lin Feng supported all of his children’s decisions.
At the airport, Lin Feng waited for over twenty minutes. Finally, the siblings he was waiting for arrived, laughing and talking. They hadn’t changed much. None of them were dating, either.
As twenty-year-olds, they shouldn’t just be focused on studying, he thought. They should be making more friends.
Er Bao said with a bright smile, "Dad, if we wanted to date, a single glance from us would draw a crowd."
Lin Feng was exasperated. "I’m talking about making genuine friends, understand?"
Er Bao’s eyes were the picture of innocence. "That’s what I’m talking about, making genuine friends. But I just don’t want to right now, Dad!" she said. "If you really wanted me to, I could go through the motions, but what would be the point of that?"
Lin Feng was speechless. "Your gift of gab has certainly improved lately."
Er Bao quickly smiled. "No, it hasn’t! Dad, don’t be mad. I’m just telling the truth. You and Mom have such a wonderful relationship, and we also want to find a partner to spend our lives with. But you can’t force matters of the heart; it’s better to let things take their natural course..."
A few minutes later, Lin Feng’s head was throbbing. "I only said a few words, and you give me a whole lecture! Stop, stop. I won’t bring it up again."
Er Bao hooked her arm through Lin Feng’s. "We know you’re concerned about our future, Dad, but we’re only twenty. We’ll take our time."
Sigh, he had only made a casual comment. He’d been thinking that if one of them had found someone they liked overseas, they might have brought their partner back for a visit. He would have been fine with a foreign daughter-in-law or son-in-law, as long as his children were happy.
Si Bao would arrive at seven tomorrow morning, just in time for Little Bao’s graduation ceremony.
The trip home was lively and boisterous, and upon arriving, they found Zhang Yuxi already waiting up for them.
Da Bao asked gently, "Mom, why are you up? Did we wake you?"
Zhang Yuxi shook her head. "No, I was just missing you all and couldn’t sleep." She looked Da Bao over. "You’re darker and look more solid than before. You haven’t lost weight."
Da Bao laughed. "I’ve been going to the gym a lot, and Dad sends us care packages so often, I couldn’t lose weight even if I tried."
Zhang Yuxi beamed as she turned to Er Bao. The role of the most affectionate sibling, once held by San Bao, had now been passed to Er Bao.
Er Bao grinned. "Mom, look at me. Have I gotten fat? Am I prettier?"
Zhang Yuxi studied her carefully. "You haven’t gained any weight, and you’re as pretty as ever! You should just let your hair grow a little longer; it’s too short."
"You got it!" Er Bao replied cheerfully.
Zhang Yuxi took San Bao’s hand. "You look the same, but you seem more composed!" Of the four children, San Bao had the most delicate features, which could only be described as perfect.
San Bao smiled slightly. "Mom, you’re still so beautiful. You haven’t changed at all."
Zhang Yuxi chided him playfully, "So you’ve learned to be a sweet-talker now. When are you going to bring a boyfriend home for me to meet?"
San Bao immediately clammed up.
Just then, Zhang Yuxi noticed Er Bao was wearing some strange accessories. She frowned. "Take off all those dangly trinkets. If Little Bao sees them, she’ll definitely want to play with them."
Little Bao was playful. She had once mistaken a beautiful bead for a piece of candy and tried to eat it, but Lin Feng had spotted her just in time. Zhang Yuxi had been there too, and the scare had left both of them in a cold sweat. Since that day, they made sure to put away anything she might get into. Although Little Bao had graduated from kindergarten and was more sensible now, there was no guarantee she wouldn’t get a one-track mind about something again.
Er Bao nodded and began taking off her jewelry. "Is Little Bao asleep?"
Zhang Yuxi helped her. "She is. She wanted to wait for you, but your dad persuaded her to go to bed. She told him to wake her up when you got back."
The three of them smiled softly.
Hearing this, Er Bao started to head upstairs to check on her sister.
"Don’t go," Zhang Yuxi stopped her. "You all need to get some rest. It’s not like you won’t see her tomorrow. What if she wakes up and can’t get back to sleep? She’ll never get up on time in the morning." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
This was a household with a strict mother and a doting father.
Er Bao shrugged and said reluctantly, "Alright then."
Lin Feng spoke up. "I made you all a midnight snack. Do you want some?"
They were already quite full from the airplane food, but they knew this was Lin Feng’s gesture of love and care. Each of them had a small bowl before heading upstairs.
