Chapter 7 - He Didn't Remember

Water splashed everywhere as Eryx released Lunara, letting her drop into the icy bathtub without a second thought.

"Enjoy your bath, wifey," he said smoothly, turning to leave.

But before he could take another step, a sharp gasp filled the air.

He turned slightly, only to see Lunara hugging herself, her soaked clothes clinging to her shivering frame. Her body trembled violently, her lips parting as if to protest, but all that came out was a weak, breathless whimper.

"Too cold?" he mused, tilting his head. Although winter was nearing its end, the night air was still sharp enough to make the freezing water unbearable.

Eryx leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching her with a smirk. "I guess you finally regained consciousness?" His voice was smooth, almost amused.

She shot him a glare, but it lacked its usual fire, her body too focused on not freezing to death. "Y-you—" her teeth chattered mid-sentence, ruining whatever insult she had planned.

Eryx raised an eyebrow. "What's that? You're shaking too much for me to understand, wifey."

Lunara bit her lip, determined, as she gripped the edge of the bathtub and slowly pushed herself up.

The moment she moved, her soaked shirt clung tighter to her body, turning nearly transparent under the dim light.

Eryx's eyes flickered downward for half a second before he looked away, jaw tightening. "Whoa, whoa... bad move, Miss Wifey." He took a step back, running a hand through his hair. "You better stay down before you make this more troublesome. Let me grab you a bathrobe."

Lunara ignored him, her trembling arms struggling to support her weight as she tried to stand. But the moment she straightened her knees, her legs gave out.

With a sharp gasp, she lost her balance.

Eryx moved before he could think, catching her mid-fall. "Tsk. Stubborn woman," he muttered, his arms tightening around her to keep her from slipping again.

Eryx sighed as Lunara clung weakly to his shirt, her trembling fingers gripping the fabric like it was the only thing keeping her upright. He glanced down at her and her wet clothes clung to her frame, her usually sharp eyes glazed over, and her lips were trembling from the cold.

Eryx frowned. She looked... delicate, innocent enough to be fooled by her own father.

For some reason, that bothered him.

Lunara sniffled, trying to push away from him. "I—I can handle this myself."

Eryx raised an eyebrow. "Oh? You sure about that?"

She scowled, clearly intending to prove him wrong. But the moment she let go, her legs buckled, and she pitched forward.

Eryx caught her... again. "Yes, too stubborn." He barely even had to try; she weighed nothing in his arms. "If you're trying to impress me, you're failing."

Lunara groaned, pressing her forehead against his shoulder for a second before realizing what she was doing. She jerked back, blinking up at him.

For a brief moment, something flickered in her expression, something like recognition.

Eryx narrowed his eyes. "What?"

Lunara hesitated, her lips parting slightly. But instead of answering, she just shivered, her damp shirt doing nothing to keep her warm.

Eryx clicked his tongue, tearing his gaze away. "Forget it." Without another word, he scooped her up again, ignoring her weak protests.

"H-hey! I said I can—"

"Yeah, yeah, you're very independent. We both saw how well that worked out." He carried her out of the bathroom without effort. "Now shut up and sit still."

When they reached the bedroom, he dropped her onto the mattress, not gently, but not harshly either. She gasped at the sudden movement, glaring at him as she tried to push herself up.

In that brief moment, Lunara looked at him and shot cursing with her eyes.

Eryx smirked. "What? You'd rather I let you fall on the floor?"

Lunara opened her mouth to argue, but a fresh shiver racked her body. She clenched her jaw, wrapping her arms around herself.

Eryx's gaze flicked over her for a second before he sighed, ruffling a hand through his hair. "Whatever. I'll grab you a bathrobe before you freeze to death."

Lunara blinked at him. "Why do you care?"

Eryx paused for a second, his fingers tightening at his side. "Good question." He turned toward the closet. "Guess I'm just not heartless enough to let some half-conscious woman turn into an ice-cream in my room."

Lunara didn't reply right away. She weakly rolled her eyes before gazing sharply at him. "Heartless?" She snickered under her breath.

"Still better than your father, who sold you off to settle his debt," Eryx muttered while grabbing a bathrobe from the closet.

Lunara snapped her head up. "How do you know that?"

"Please. That kind of information is child's play for someone like me. You really think it was hard to figure out?" Eryx smirked, tilting his head slightly. He gestured around the luxurious suite. "This room alone costs thousands a night. And you've already figured out I'm not just some 'mere man,' right?"

He tossed the bathrobe toward her with an easy flick of his wrist. "Put that on. I don't want any trouble. Get yourself together and get out of my place. I need to rest."

Lunara caught the bathrobe but didn't move to put it on. Instead, she tightened her grip on the damp fabric of her clothes, her gaze locked onto him. "If you're so capable, then why am I here?"

"You're the one who was weakly mumbling 'help me' like a lost kitten." Eryx exhaled sharply, rubbing the back of his neck. "Figured dumping you in a cold bath might knock some sense back into you." He turned away, heading toward the bed. "Not that I care if you stay or go, but if you're smart, you'll leave before I change my mind about being generous."

Lunara hesitated, staring at his retreating figure. Her lips parted as if she wanted to say something, but she swallowed the words.

"Oh, Miss Eloise Winfield, right? I hope we never meet again." Eryx flashed a smug smile before stepping out onto the balcony, leaving Lunara simmering in annoyance.

"Eloise? Seriously?" She let out a frustrated sigh, shaking her head. "For a second, I thought..." Her fingers clenched the bathrobe tighter as the brief flicker of hope faded. Of course, he didn't remember her.
