My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 94
Vivienne’s POV
The next morning.
When I woke up, Alexander was already up.
He was dressed and sitting at the dining table, waiting for me to join him for breakfast before we headed to the office together.
There was a knock on the office door. I looked up from my computer screen. "Come in."
"Director Vivienne," Jane said as she turned the doorknob and entered. "CEO Hawthorne asked me to bring you some documents."
"Just leave them here." I gestured to the desk in front of me.
"Okay."
After Jane left, I glanced down at the folder she’d left on my desk. It wasn’t an official document, but a detailed schedule of Alexander’s activities for the past week. It listed everything—meetings, lunch and dinner appointments, even personal errands.
He used to report his schedule to me, but never with this level of detail.
For example, today at noon, Alexander had a lunch appointment.
Just then, I received a message from him: "I won’t be in the office at noon. I’ve arranged lunch for you. Afterward, you can rest in my lounge."
"Okay."
During lunch, Jane brought me the takeaway. After eating, I went to Alexander’s lounge to rest for a while.
When I woke up, it was almost time to get back to work.
I slipped on my shoes, straightened my clothes, and was about to leave when I suddenly heard voices from the office outside.
"...Is there anything else?"
It was Alexander’s voice. He must’ve just returned.
"There’s one more personal matter," a woman’s voice replied.
It was Olivia Reynolds.
Olivia said, "CEO Hawthorne, it’s my birthday today. I’m planning to have dinner with the department, and since I see you’ve already canceled tonight’s cocktail party, why not join us?"
"No need. You all go ahead," Alexander said, his tone indifferent.
"Please, CEO Hawthorne," Olivia pressed. "It would mean a lot. Think of it as a department gathering. Everyone will be happy if you come. I heard you recently went on a trip with another department, so it wouldn’t be fair to leave us out."
"...Fine, I understand," Alexander responded.
Soon, I heard the sound of high heels echoing as she left.
I pushed open the lounge door.
Alexander was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window. When he heard the sound, he turned and walked toward me. "You’re awake?"
"Mm."
"Olivia’s birthday dinner. She invited me. Do you want to come with me?"
I glanced at him. "You know very well I don’t get along with Olivia. It’s her birthday. If I show up, she’ll be furious. Besides, I’m not even part of her department."
"So what if you’re not part of the department? If you come with me, do you think they’ll dare ask you to leave?"
"Then what should I go as?"
"What do you think? A colleague? Or... my wife?"
I raised my eyes to meet Alexander’s. He was looking at me with such serious, sincere eyes.
I lowered my lashes and pressed my lips together, my voice quiet. "You should go by yourself."
There were already rumors about us being close at work. If I went with him, it would be impossible to clear things up.
Of course, we were never going to clear it up. But right now, I didn’t want to make it public.
"Didn’t you say Olivia likes me? Aren’t you worried?" Alexander asked, his gaze intense.
His expression seemed to ask if I wasn’t jealous of him interacting with Olivia.
"You don’t believe she likes you, do you?" I raised an eyebrow. "Go ahead. I trust you."
Alexander didn’t believe Olivia liked him, which meant he had no romantic interest in her and wouldn’t do anything with her.
I didn’t want to get involved in this messy business. Besides, I was pregnant and should be resting at home.
Seeing my trusting expression, Alexander suddenly looked defeated. There was no joy in receiving my trust.
"...Fine."
Since I wasn’t willing to go, he didn’t insist.
"Then I’ll get back to work."
"Mm."
I left the office and suddenly froze in my tracks.
Olivia was standing not far away, glaring at me.
I gave her a faint smile. "Director Reynolds, good afternoon."
Olivia shot me a sharp glare, snorted, and walked off.
Third-Person POV
Olivia had booked a French restaurant.
Alexander, along with the staff, sat around a round table.
The dishes had been pre-ordered, and as everyone took their seats, the food arrived quickly. The group began eating slowly.
Every department had one or two people who were the life of the party, and the PR department was no exception. Soon, the conversation at the table was buzzing.
Alexander leaned back in his chair, holding his wine glass, occasionally joining in the conversation.
Olivia placed a dessert in front of him. "I’m not sure, CEO Hawthorne, if you’ll like this."
Alexander glanced at the dessert on the plate and replied, "Thank you, but there’s really no need to serve me."
"..."
Olivia’s expression faltered, a hint of disappointment crossing her face.
At that moment, Alexander’s phone lit up.
A message notification—a small Instagram icon—appeared.
He picked up the phone and unlocked it. As he responded to the message, Olivia caught a glimpse of the contact name at the top of the chat window—Vivienne.
Although she couldn’t see what Vivienne had sent, Olivia noticed that Alexander’s face softened, and he began typing a reply. Meanwhile, a tight feeling gripped Olivia’s chest, an uneasy pang of jealousy.
A reply came through from Vivienne, and Alexander smiled before typing again.
Now that she thought about it, Alexander rarely used Instagram; he mostly communicated by phone or email. It was unusual for him to be chatting like this.
Olivia couldn’t help but watch Alexander’s actions, and her thoughts drifted to his interactions with Vivienne. Her jealousy twisted inside her, and she instinctively clenched her fists.
Just then, Alexander’s phone lit up again.
He was about to reply when Olivia spoke up. "CEO Hawthorne, let’s all raise our glasses. Thank you for your support of CCPR over the years. We’ll continue to give our all to contribute to Vanguard Global Enterprises."
Alexander turned off the screen, put down the phone, and picked up his glass. "You’re too kind."
At this, the others followed suit, raising their glasses as well.
They slowly took a few more sips.
In the middle of this, Alexander received a call from his driver, James.
He stood up and walked toward the hallway to take the call.
"CEO Hawthorne, the car tire has blown out. I’ve already contacted the authorized dealership to handle it. Should I go back and get another car to pick you up?"
Alexander paused for a moment. "Head back first. After I’m done, I’ll have Vivienne come pick me up."
"Understood."
After hanging up, Alexander opened Vivienne’s Instagram chat. The conversation was exactly where it had left off.
"Are you all going to the bar later?"
Alexander didn’t respond right away. Instead, he dialed her number.
The phone rang twice before she picked up. Vivienne’s voice came through the speaker. "Hey, are you done?"
"Mm."
"Okay, just don’t drink too much."
Vivienne had already warned him once over Instagram, and now she repeated it.
"I know."
"Are you still going to the bar? When will you be back? Should I go to bed now?"
"I’ll just stop by. It won’t be long. James told me the tire blew, so I let him head back. When I’m done, can you come pick me up?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
There was a brief hesitation on the other end. "Alright, just don’t stay out too late."
"Mm, be careful on the road," Alexander said softly.
After hanging up, Alexander stood by the hallway window for a moment.
The cool breeze swept in, helping to clear the alcohol from his system.
Maybe because of the drink, he felt a bit warm, so he took off his jacket and draped it over his arm.
Olivia stepped out from the private room and watched the man’s broad back and tall, straight posture. Her gaze lingered on him, unable to look away.
