Chapter 295: Back To Marica City

(Arata)

"I have made a decision. It wasn’t easy but it was the best one I could come up with," Karsten informed Camilla and me once the plane took off. He was seated beside me and I could sense the slight tension radiating from him. This seemed like a sensitive topic...

Instantly my hand found his tattooed one, letting him know I was there with him, whatever decision he had taken.

Karsten snatched in a breath and he heavily elaborated. "I have decided to nominate Rahsir as the CEO for Arsten Empire in the next board meeting. Since I can’t live in Angel City anymore, it’s appropriate to hand over the reins to someone I can trust."

Karsten had created his empire from scratch and I could understand how painful this decision must have been for him. Just because he needed to save me, he had to sacrifice so much.

His free will.

His company.

His life in Angel City.

I desperately squeezed his hand, and a pain erupted in my heart at the thought.

Camilla leaned back but her face had a serious look. "Are you sure, Karsten? I love Rahsir as my son but this company is like your child. I don’t want you to have regrets about it. You love working and creating new masterpieces. Your creativity is unmatched."

I agreed with Camilla. I hated to see that he had to give up his dreams like that.

"I don’t have a choice, Ma..and I have already spoken to Rahsir about it. He is ready to take on the role."

An idea erupted in my brain and I didn’t hesitate to share.

"Maybe we do," I added, making Karsten turn to face me. So I further explained. "We can set up a branch in Sparia and you can continue to operate from there. Kincaid International can collaborate and we can have a joint venture. I am not going to let you give up your dream."

Karsten stared at me as if he could kiss me in that moment in front of his mother. Bringing our conjoined hands towards himself he placed a long kiss on the back of my hand.

"That’s why I love you. You always bring a fresh perspective. I would love a collaboration with your father’s company."

I meaningfully smiled, half-blushing. "I want to remain working on what we both love to do. We won’t give up our dreams, just because our lives were toppled. We will rebuild."

"I will help too. These old bones still have a lot of life left, and I have connections too," Camilla smirked, and I sensed Karsten relax and lean back.

I wasn’t going to let him carry the burdens of our lives alone. We were a team and we will be working together, moving forward.

Camilla refused to join us in Angel City. She wanted to return to Sparia because Grandma Martina was returning from visiting her other daughter. The plane was to take her back after dropping us off at Angel City.

I said my goodbyes to her with the promise of meeting soon.

The plane touched down, and Karsten held my hand while we descended the stairs.

I had imagined a terror to grip me returning to this place but instead I felt liberated and proud of myself. Facing head-on every new challenge that might come my way.

Olphi was there to pick us up and he actually smiled, stretching his lips to the best of his capacity.

He respectfully greeted me. "Miss Arata! Welcome back. Asbela will be thrilled to see you."

"Thank you! Olphi. I can’t wait to meet her." I offered him an appreciative nod as he held the door open for me and I slid inside the car.

Karsten leaned in and fastened my seat belt before joining me from the other side.

I watched the city through the window while Karsten’s hand protectively remained on my thigh.

Soon we arrived at Karsten’s villa and it felt like being back home. A warm feeling enveloped me. I had left it in such a terrible state of mind, clouded by doubts, revulsion and contempt.

Karsten helped me out, offering me his hand and keeping the other above my head so I won’t bump my head.

The little actions of his were the ones which had stolen my heart.

"Welcome back!" He victoriously said and I beamed at him.

"Arataaa!" I heard Asbela’s joyful voice and my attention was diverted from Karsten towards her.

Spreading her arms she hugged me tightly. I returned her affection, hugging her back. Karsten stepped aside, letting us have this moment.

"How are you? I can’t tell you how good it feels to have you back." She stepped back a little and held my hands. The joy reflected from her face and twinkling eyes.

"Can’t be better and thank you." I let her giddily guide me inside. Karsten and Olphi followed.

The place was the same as I had left it. Elegant and well-kept and my heart slightly ached at the thought that we couldn’t stay here.

"Asbela, why don’t you take Arata upstairs and help her freshen up so we can have dinner," Karsten instructed and she obediently nodded. He then turned to face me.

"Will you be alright or should I come along?" I shook my head.

"I will be fine." We climbed the stairs, which held beautiful memories for me, and a smile spread across my lips.

Asbela guided me to my room. Nothing had changed, from the vast fish aquarium, where fish swam with ease to the decorations in the room. Even the stuff I had left behind was still there. My shoes, my books, my jewellery boxes.

Asbela must have read the surprise look on my face. "Master, didn’t want anything to be disturbed, so I kept it like this. Sometimes he did come to your room and sleep here though."

I was touched to my core hearing her. Even imagining what he went through when I was kidnapped by Ranold brought me an intense heartache.

So it must be hurting him deeply every time he sees the state of my hair. I couldn’t put him through the pain again and again. I needed to cross this last bridge and get done with the Ranold episode.

Turning towards Asbela, I slowly removed my scarf and stood facing her, pointing. "Can you do something about these so he isn’t terrified every time he has to see me without my scarf?"
