Chapter 269: The New COO

(Karsten)

I couldn’t focus on anything after Arata left. The world appeared dull and uninteresting. Nothing and absolutely nothing felt good.

I waited for her to text me, just send me even a single word. Holding my phone, I would stare at her name for hours, but she never did.

Although Caysir and Hades had been giving me updates on her, I just wanted to hear her voice.

Climbing in my bed, I finally went to sleep after how long, I had no clue...

Roshra pulled back the blinds of my room so the little bit of sunlight could seep in. I squinted with half-opened eyes, my hand shielding me from the morning light, or was it noon? Afternoon?

"Rise and shine, big brother. Stop wallowing in your sorrows." She moved forward and pulled off the quilt from me while huffing.

"Roshraaa!" I warned in a low voice but she didn’t listen.

"Aa! Aa! No excuses. Your company needs you. Do you want it to go bankrupt after you strove so hard to build your empire?"

She narrowed her eyes on me and I was reminded of Ma. Although she wasn’t her biological daughter, she certainly knew how to act like her.

I tried to grab the quilt back so I could just sleep more. I wasn’t even sure how much and for how many days I had been sleeping.

But she held it away from my reach.

"I don’t care about anything right now, Rosh. Let me sleep." I flopped back on the bed and tried to cover my eyes with my arm.

"Do you want me to push you off the bed?" She pried away my arm from my face and asked with several folds on her forehead.

"What’s the point?" I complained.

"The point is to plan and win her back—not act like Romeo."

"She doesn’t want me back. She said so before leaving."

Roshra dropped herself beside me on the bed.

"And you are just going to give up? That’s not the brother I know." She pried away my arms and knocked on my forehead. "I am not going to let you give up so easily. Get up now, we are going to your office and then we will formulate a plan to win her back."

After much persuasion, she was able to drag me out and make me get ready to finally resume my duties as the CEO. There was no Ranold now and I had to fill in that spot with someone capable.

"I am going shopping but will bring you lunch." Roshra left with Olphi after dropping me off. I took the elevator up.

It reminded me of Arata, how she would cling to me for the ride up or just steal glances and take in my scent.

How I had kissed her so she wouldn’t have a panic attack.

Now, they were merely memories, beautiful, beautiful memories I would always cherish.

The elevator dinged and doors slid in the slots. With a sigh, I stepped out, and my eyes went straight to the office, which used to be hers but was now occupied by a different woman.

Her curious eyes shifted towards me. Seeing me she quickly scrambled out of her seat and rushed out of the office. Colour drained from her face.

Was I that terrifying for her?

"Good morning! Mr CEO. I am glad you are here," she pleasantly smiled, putting an atrociously fake smile on her face.

I wanted to blurt out, ’Are you?’ But I held my tongue. Arata had asked me to go easy on her.

"Morning, Nasia. Bring me up to detail and tell me how far behind we have fallen?"

Her mouth opened, and her eyes widened in shock at me calling her by her first name and answering her ’Good morning.’

I could swear she was about to faint from the shock.

I cleared my throat so she could get a hold of herself. She quickly adjusted her expression and began fumbling with her tablet.

"We have a meeting with some new investors. Your signatures are needed on important documents, I have placed them all in your office. Also, monthly meeting with the departments are due."

"Right, arrange everything. I will have a meeting with the heads of all departments in an hour. We need to promote someone to the post of COO." She nodded quickly. "Bring me coffee, strong. And send Miranda." She enthusiastically jotted everything and excitedly scampered away on her heels.

I made my way to my office and settled down in my chair. Grabbing my pen from the Itachi penholder, I opened the first file and began to read the approval sent by the marketing department for an increase in their funds.

Miranda sought permission to enter.

"Come in," I calmly said. Soon she stood in front of me.

"Good morning! Glad to have you back," her voice seemed excited.

"Morning! Take a seat." I offered my eyes still on the documents.

"So, I need to ask you something important."

I upped my gaze and stared at her. "Who do you think is the best candidate to fill in the position of Ranold?"

Miranda paused just for a second before saying. "I know he is my friend but apart from that, he is capable and smart and knows his work. He has also been with us for quite a while now. So I am going to say, Chan."

That was no surprise.

In my mind, I had the same name.

Was it another desperate attempt by me to impress Arata?

I knew the news would reach her. Miranda and Chan were quite close to her and before she left, she was working directly under Chan.

"I agree, Miranda. Thank you for your input. But I am going to need you to be discreet and not become the gossiping mongrel you and Chan love to become," I warned, and she sheepishly smiled.

"My lips are sealed until you make an announcement."

"Good, we have a meeting in an hour. Ensure everything is arranged. Work with Nasia," I ordered, turning my attention back to my work.

"Sir!" She respectfully responded before getting up and leaving my office.

My thoughts went to a particular redhead and an idea dropped.

I knew Arata...

She was inquisitive and even though she was giving me the silent treatment, I knew she would definitely check my page.

Time to drop a mind-blowing video for my girl.
