My CEO Boss Is A Masked Internet Sensation-Chapter 252: Skeleton Of The Past
Chapter 252: Skeleton Of The Past
(Zyair)
Karsten almost gave me a heart attack when he announced that Arata was pregnant with his child...
The rage that birthed inside me almost blinded me, and if Zaylen hadn’t stepped in, I would have done some serious damage to him.
It felt like he had violated my daughter–turned her into someone I didn’t even recognise.
We had instilled values in our children and taught them to trust us, but Arata hid everything.
He had changed her and I fully blamed him. I wasn’t sure how he made her do things she would never even dream of doing but I was going to get to the bottom of it.
"Dad, please. Calm down." Zaylen settled me on the bench seat while Stella fetched me water.
"Arata is fighting for her life inside. We need to remain calm for her sake, not fight." Zaylen heaved. "Just let her at least gain consciousness and then we will deal with whatever. We need to hear her side of the story."
My son stood in front of me, spewing wisdom. I sensed so much of myself in him when I was younger.
Poised, calm, and making rational decisions.
But somehow having kids changes you. Your worst self, the one you keep hidden in the crevices of your soul, seeps out.
That’s what I believe was happening to me.
"For all I know he raped her. How am I supposed to stay calm in all this?" I breathed out, handing the glass back to Stella after taking a sip.
She hesitated and then said, "He didn’t. Everything between them was consensual."
Stella was her best friend so of course, she knew.
Children don’t always share these details with their parents. Exactly to avoid the kind of behaviour I had displayed.
I leaned back into the metallic chair and closed my eyes.
There was no peace, only chaos.
"Dad, please..for Arata’s sake. So much stress is not good for your health." I felt Zaylen sit beside me, his hand on my arm.
There was a lot I wanted to say, so many emotions that were trying to shoot out, but Zaylen was right.
If Karsten believed he would remain a part of my daughter’s life, he was sorely mistaken. I may keep shut for the peace’s sake but I wasn’t going to let him anywhere near my daughter.
Seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours when a doctor finally emerged to give us some news.
The man Karsten had left behind remained standing near the door from which the doctor had emerged as if guiding it.
We rushed to meet the doctor, hoping for any news. He faintly smiled at us.
"Hi! I am Dr Tames. She is stable. Still unconscious but stable." Stella hugged Zaylen at these words, they both rejoiced while I held back tears and listened to what he wanted to say further.
"We have examined her thoroughly. There are a lot of bruises but no sexual assault."
A hint of calmness settled in my heart at this news. "She is severely dehydrated and malnourished, so we will be monitoring that for the next 48 hours."
He paused, ensuring we were taking all this information in.
"She is also in pain because of the nature of her wounds so we have given her sedatives and painkillers. All she needs is rest and calm because of how traumatic that experience must have been for her."
I simply nodded while biting my lower lip. Zaylen and Stella listened attentively, nodding their heads at intervals.
"And yes, her unborn child is unharmed. Her pregnancy is in its very initial stages, but your daughter has been very brave, and your grandchild is going to be one tough kid."
I knew the doctor added the last part just to release the stress, not knowing we didn’t even know she was pregnant. He had only confirmed what Karsten had said.
I clamped up at the news, not even knowing how to react and what to say.
Zaylen took one look at me and shifted the conversation.
"Thank you! Dr Tames, we appreciate you taking care of my sister. When can we see her?"
"We are going to keep her in intensive care for 48 hours. From what I have gathered from initial reports and the form you guys filled up. She was kept captive for about 84 hours. Her body went through a lot. Physical trauma, mental trauma, starvation..." he watched all of us sympathetically. Stella gripped Zaylen’s arm while I tried to keep myself steady.
"She needs time to heal. We will let you know..until then you guys can go and rest. Take turns staying here." Dr Tames offered one last smile and walked away.
Zaylen turned to face me. "Dad, go to the hotel and rest. Stella and I will stay here and will call you when they allow visitation."
"Absolutely not. I am not going anywhere. You two rest for the night and return tomorrow." I settled back down in the chair.
"Dad, you are not going to fight with Karsten again..until we speak to Arata and have all the facts. We won’t interact with him. Promise me," Zaylen said in a definitive tone and Stella agreed.
"Fine, but I am staying here until I see my daughter."
Zaylen shook his head. "You are turning into a stubborn old man."
I didn’t mind and watched them leave.
After that, we spent the next two days trying to stay sane.
The detectives regularly visited in hopes that Arata would gain consciousness and give her statement. They also informed me that they didn’t find Ranold or his girlfriend anywhere. Tons of evidence against them was found at their place which exonerated Karsten.
No mention of Karsten was made and I concluded they didn’t suspect Karsten had done something to Ranold and his female accomplice.
I chose a chair and stayed on it and tried not to speak with Karsten when he returned later with a bandage on his nose.
My mood soured, and my hands itched to give him several more punches, but I had to respect this place and the promise I had made to my son.
He mostly ignored me and I did the same.
His men accompanied him, as they took turns to guard the door to the intensive care unit.
Only once he walked up to me and calmly said, "If you have any hand in killing Doran Blackthorn and burying him in a nameless grave. It will be in your interest to move his remains. Karen knows and she will be talking to the police." That being said he casually walked away as if he hadn’t dropped a bomb on me.
So I called Kail and told him to take care of it. The skeleton of the past needed to remain buried.
Stella and Zaylen took turns to bring me food and drinks, but I didn’t budge from the place. Never leaving for I wasn’t sure when Arata could wake up.
And then the nurse came with news that I had been waiting for.
"Mr Kincaid, your daughter is awake. She is asking for you."
Joy had my heart finally easing. I was finally going to see her.
Triumphantly I left my seat, knowing the bastard could hear us. He had remained here just like me, hardly ever leaving or sleeping.
His calculated eyes followed me as I made my way to Arata but he chose silence.
