My Antique Mirror Is A Portal To Another World-Chapter 664: Take Our Time
Wu Jun frowned slightly, then added, "There are too many suspicious things happening in the Jin Empire, including that strange barrier. We shouldn’t go in without preparation."
Feng Xiyan nodded in agreement after listening to Wu Jun’s plan. "Brother Wu is right. Based on our traveling speed, it will take a few days before we reach the imperial capital of the Jin Empire."
"You all can travel fast, so there is still more than enough time to investigate the border town. It won’t be too late to join the main team after finishing the investigation."
Bai Hanyun calculated the time and distance, then said, "Alright. Then let’s follow Brother Wu’s plan."
After making their decision, Bai Hanyun and the others began to share the information they had gathered over the past few days with Feng Xiyan.
While they exchanged information, Bao Shengjie was talking with the soldier. Sitting on the stool by the bed, he watched the soldier gulp down the porridge.
Bao Shengjie swallowed with a painful expression when she saw the soldier take another big mouthful of the piping hot porridge and thought, ’Doesn’t he feel the heat?’
After finishing the meal, the soldier took a sip of water, then looked at Bao Shengjie with a hint of embarrassment on his face.
"I–I’m sorry to show you such embarrassing behavior."
Bao Shengjie came out of his thoughts, then chuckled. "Don’t worry about that."
Noticing the soldier licking his lips while staring at the empty bowl and plate, he added, "You have been hungry for a long time, so you can’t eat too much at once. If you still want to eat, I will bring more to you later."
Realizing that he had been staring at the empty bowl like a starving ghost, the soldier blushed hard. Fortunately, his skin had darkened after years in the army, saving him from further embarrassment.
"Thank you, Young Master."
Now that he had filled his stomach, the soldier felt better.
Bao Shengjie picked up the tray with the dirty bowl and plate, then stood up and said, "I still have things to do, so I will take my leave first. Call me if you need anything."
When the soldier heard this, he quickly asked, "Young Master, may I know your name?"
Bao Shengjie grinned, then replied, "You can call me Shengjie."
Leaving those words behind, he left the main house and returned to the kitchen.
Left alone in the room, the soldier muttered thoughtfully, "Shengjie? He doesn’t have a surname?"
While Bao Shengjie’s deliberate action in hiding his surname caused the soldier to fall into deep thought, Bao Shengjie walked into the kitchen.
Placing the tray of dirty bowls and plates on the kitchen counter, he walked to the long wooden table and took a seat.
Looking at him, Bai Hanyun asked, "How is the soldier’s condition?"
"Brother Gui Ying’s Yuan Pill is really amazing. With only one pill, that soldier is completely recovered now," Bao Shengjie replied in awe.
"Did he tell you anything?" Hua Yuyu asked.
Shaking his head, Bao Shengjie responded, "The moment he saw the food, he didn’t say anything and just devoured it. After he finished eating, he asked for my name, but I didn’t tell him my surname."
Wu Jun thought for a few seconds, then asked, "He didn’t ask any other questions?"
"No," Bao Shengjie replied calmly.
After hearing his answer, Wu Jun looked at the others. "Looks like that soldier is wary of us. If we want him to tell us everything he knows, we can only take it slowly."
The others nodded in agreement.
Then, Wu Jun turned to Bao Shengjie and instructed, "Shengjie, your age is the closest to his. You will take care of that soldier from now on. I want to know everything he does or says."
"Yes, Brother Wu." Patting his chest, Bao Shengjie confidently said, "Don’t worry. You can leave this matter to me."
Seeing that all they could do right now was wait, Bai Hanyun asked, "Since the main house is given to that soldier, where will we sleep tonight?"
Ouyang Zhuangyu raised his hand, then said, "On my way back, I found a house good enough for us to stay in for a few days."
"Good." Hua Yuyu looked at Bao Shengjie, Wang Kaimu, and Wang Kaiye, and added, "The three of you will stay here and monitor that soldier. We will exchange shifts tomorrow."
"Yes, Brother Hua. I will keep my eyes on him," Bao Shengjie responded energetically.
Nodding at him, Wang Kaimu said, "Yes, Captain."
Sitting beside him, Wang Kaiye just nodded in silence.
Hua Yuyu then looked at Bai Hanyun, Wu Jun, Gao Gong, and Ouyang Zhuangyu. "We will go to the other house and clean it up first."
"Alright," they answered in unison.
After dividing the team, Bai Hanyun looked at Feng Xiyan through her phone screen and said, "Feng Xiyan, we are going to check the other house. Do you want to see it?"
Leaning on the iron cage, Feng Xiyan smiled and nodded. "Yes."
With that, Bai Hanyun switched the front camera to the back camera, then began to show the surroundings to Feng Xiyan, while Hua Yuyu and the others followed her.
While they were busy cleaning, far away on the outskirts of the Yu Empire’s imperial capital, the generals and ministers arrived at the village one after another.
Hidden near the village entrance, a general from the royalist faction observed the approaching group. Seeing that the group was led by another general from the same faction, he then looked at the ministers and recognized them as members of the neutral faction.
After making sure no enemies had followed them, the general walked out of his hiding place.
Waving at the incoming group, he called out in a low voice, "Old General Tao, this way."
Seeing him, the older general hurried over. Panting heavily, he asked worriedly, "Are you alone? Where are the others?"
The younger general glanced at the breathless ministers behind Old General Tao, then said, "This is not a place to talk. Old General Tao, please come with me."
With that, he led the group back to their temporary hidden place.
