Mutation Abyss-Chapter 67: Meteorborn Frost (MFrost)
Chapter 67: Meteorborn Frost (MFrost)
Theo woke up around three in the morning. The house was quiet, everyone still fast asleep. He moved silently as he got dressed and prepared his gear for today’s mission: Red Zone D5 - Shop and Go Supermarket.
The supermarket was just one floor and had a basement parking lot, which made it easier for him to sneak in without being seen by AMSO’s drones in the sky, so it was the perfect spot to enter and exit unnoticed.
According to the details Brix sent before, there could be around twenty survivors still trapped inside.
Before heading out, Theo pulled out his phone and quickly typed a message:
Theo: Heading to Red Zone D5 for a quick run. I’ll be back before you even know it. Don’t worry. Stay safe.
He sent it to both Aries and Calix, then did the same for Commander Brix, who responded with a simple:
Brix: K.
After that, Theo tucked his phone away, slipped on his gear, and left the estate on his motorcycle. He carefully avoided main roads, choosing instead to travel through back routes where most CCTV cameras were broken or offline. He’d studied the surveillance map well and knew exactly which paths would keep him out of AMSO’s eyes.
Just like before, he parked his motorcycle in a hidden spot a short distance from his target area. He covered it with a camo tarp he’d brought along, making sure it blended into the overgrown surroundings.
Then, without hesitation, he activated Shadow Step.
In an instant, Theo slipped through the barricades undetected, his body becoming a wisp of shadow as he moved between cover points, steadily closing in on the Shop and Go Supermarket.
There were about six MB Infectees lying motionless outside the supermarket building, their twisted bodies scattered between the barricades and the outer perimeter barriers. Judging by the clean bullet wounds and positioning, they’d likely been taken down by military patrols during an earlier sweep, probably while the barricades were still being set up.
The main entrance was locked tight, so Theo circled to the side and slipped through the emergency exit instead. With a quiet push, the door creaked open just enough for him to slide inside unnoticed.
Inside, the supermarket was eerily dark, with only faint shafts of moonlight slipping in through broken panels above. Dust clung to the air, thick with the stench of rot and something else, something acrid and sharp.
The moment Theo stepped in, a low snarl echoed from behind the shelves. He stilled. Then another. And another.
Multiple snarls now, building into a chorus of guttural, twisted sounds that seemed to come from every aisle at once.

Theo’s eyes narrowed. "MToxin and MFrost?" he muttered under his breath. He crouched lower, moving between toppled canned goods and scattered grocery carts. His boots made no sound, Shadow Step still active.

Theo moved like a shadow. freewebnøvel.com
With Shadow Step still active, his form blurred between shelves, metal racks, and shattered displays. The MB Infectees didn’t even have time to react, each one fell with a clean, swift strike to the head. One by one, their bodies dropped silently onto broken tiles and scattered canned goods.
[Shadow Step Duration: 00:12 - 00:07 - 00:04...]
By the time the final Infectee collapsed, the system pinged softly in his mind.
[Ding! 11 MB Infectees Eliminated.]
Theo didn’t stop moving. He’d already spotted the MToxin variant earlier, pinned to the wall behind Cashier Register #5, green bile leaking slowly from its chest wounds. It twitched weakly, but whatever pinned it had likely bought him time.
He ignored it. His eyes locked on the real threat: MFrost.
The air around it shimmered with a bitter chill as it prowled down the frozen foods aisle, jagged ice crawling in spiderweb patterns across the floor beneath its feet. It moved erratically, almost as if sensing something, or someone.
Theo ducked behind a fallen freezer door and readied his axe, breath slowing, focus narrowing.
MFrost suddenly jerked its head, frost-covered eyes locking onto Theo’s location.
Without hesitation, Theo moved.
He burst from cover, dashing low to the ground. Shadow Step flickered out just as he activated his first combo.
[Ability Activated: Ember Step]
Theo’s boots flared with short bursts of fire, propelling him forward in a zigzag, cutting across the icy floor and melting through thin frost.
[Combo Chain Triggered]
Pulse Wave + Ember Step = Scorch Pulse
A fiery burst erupted around him as he skidded to a halt in front of MFrost. The blast cracked the ice beneath and singed the creature’s limbs.
MFrost shrieked, recoiling, but swung an arm lined with crystalline shards toward his face.
Theo ducked and twisted, slamming his axe into the creature’s hip. Frost splintered. Ice cracked. But the monster recovered fast.
Theo instinctively jumped back, barely avoiding a spike of ice that exploded from the ground. Cold air blasted outward.
He gritted his teeth, gripping his axe tighter. MFrost charged, leaving a trail of frostbite across the tiles.
The moment MFrost lunged again, Theo braced himself, the air thick with icy fog.
