Mushroom Lord in the Underground City-Chapter 393 - 385: Door Breached
The buzzing alarm sounded in the Golden Flame Fortress.
The most elite forces in the city, the Flame Guards of the Firebeard Clan and the Heavy Armor Legion of the Black Steel Clan, quickly assembled, fully armed, and rushed toward the entrance of the Molten Fire Dungeon.
Vimak Deep Furnace, the heir of the Deep Furnace Clan and Tolin’s elder brother, stood in front of the family’s tower window, tugging at his carefully groomed beard, his face growing increasingly grim.
His troublesome little brother caused such a big disturbance on his first day in the Molten Fire Dungeon?
He found it more believable that Tolin had somehow triggered the alarm by accident than that something happened in the Molten Fire Dungeon which had been safe for hundreds of years.
"Father won’t spare him this time!" Vimak cursed under his breath. Despite frequently scolding his incompetent brother, he couldn’t just watch him suffer.
Vimak hurriedly followed in the direction of the troops.
However, when he arrived at the dungeon entrance, he saw the dwarf soldiers forming a shield wall, struggling to hold back the relentless surge of Elemental Creatures pouring from deep within the passage...
...
Boom!
Gleam smashed a storm Elemental Spirit trying to squeeze into the passage with his shield, but soon another Element filled the gap.
The two were trapped inside the communication room, surrounded by frenzied Elemental Creatures outside, struggling to defend this narrow corridor.
"We’re doomed! We should have run straight away!" Gleam shouted in frustration while blocking the attacks.
Tolin swung his axe, shattering an approaching fire spirit, panting and apologizing, "Sorry! I didn’t think to run at the time..."
"Forget it, forget it," Gleam interrupted him, "it’s also my fault for not dragging you to run! Since we’ve already sounded the alarm, let’s hold on! The reinforcements might be on their way!"
After speaking, he couldn’t help but continue to complain about their luck: "The last time something happened in the dungeon was over fifty years ago! Back then, it was just a hole blown by the out-of-control temperature of the Earth Fire Forge, not like this deadly situation!"
The two fiercely guarded the communication room entrance, enduring for an unknown time.
The Healing Potion they carried long depleted, their arms trembled slightly from exhaustion, yet the Elemental Spirits outside showed no signs of diminishing.
"Damn it! What are the guards dithering about?" Gleam spat a bloody saliva, "They should have crawled this short distance already!"
They weren’t far from the dungeon entrance, reinforcements should have arrived by now.
On the other side, Tolin lacked even the strength to curse, leaning against the wall, gasping heavily, with the battle axe feeling particularly heavy in his hands.
At this moment, a violent tremor came!
A voice full of oppression echoed like thunder throughout the Underground City:
"You vile worms... Today, you will pay the price!"
With this roar, more violent tremors came from deep underground, causing rubble to fall from the passage ceiling.
Clearly, whoever spoke wielded terrifying power.
"What... what is that?" Tolin’s voice involuntarily trembled.
Gleam was slightly better but equally pale: "Whatever it is, it seems reinforcements won’t be here anytime soon..."
Another Elemental Spirit drilled into the corridor, the two exchanged a glance, seeing the helplessness in each other’s eyes; they had little strength left.
A chill crept up his back, making Tolin shiver uncontrollably.
He instinctively turned around, surprised to find something familiar appearing in the room unnoticed!
As Tolin hesitated, ferocious Elemental Spirits charged. Gleam mustered his last strength to hold the shield firmly, shouting hoarsely, "Stop dawdling! Even if we die, let’s die like Warriors!"
"Die?" A flash of inspiration struck Tolin, urgently rummaging through his backpack, "Hold on! We might not need to die!"
"Huh?"
Gleam hadn’t yet reacted and was scorched by flames from a fire spirit, yelping in pain, his already battered shield finally shattering completely.
On the verge of collapse, a Magical Power suddenly enveloped him.
Tolin and Gleam’s bodies quickly shrank, becoming only one-fifth of their original size in an instant.
Seeing the colossal fire spirit before them, Gleam couldn’t hold back: "What kind of plan is this? Doesn’t this make us even more doomed?!"
However, Tolin grabbed him and turned to run!
It was only then that Gleam noticed a palm-sized Space Rift had appeared in the room’s corner, continuously emitting a piercing chill.
The two narrowly avoided a heavy blow from the fire spirit, leaping into the rift. Just as they passed through, the spot behind them was completely engulfed in roaring flames.
At its current size, even Elemental Creatures would find it difficult to traverse this narrow rift.
The two collapsed on the ground, gasping heavily, but soon scrambled up again.
"So... so cold!"
The two dwarves huddled back-to-back, feeling the biting cold after their bodies cooled down!
"Are they kidding? We barely escaped, only to freeze to death in the end?"
"Do you have anything to make a fire?"
"How could I?"
Puki—
As the two grumbled, a familiar figure appeared before them. To the dwarves, who had shrunk, it was a mountain-like Puki.
Facing the approaching mycelium tendrils, Gleam decisively dropped his warhammer.
He clearly remembered the consequences of swinging a hammer at Puki in the Pujie Dungeon!
Besides, he had no strength left to wield a weapon, leaving his fate to chance.
His only confusion now was: Where exactly is this place? It didn’t seem the same as the Pujie Dungeon he had seen in human territory before.
...
Having another dungeon’s rift open into my territory... Lin Jun encountered this for the first time!
And two little thieves snuck in!
Did they think they wouldn’t be noticed just because they shrunk?
Lin Jun immediately grabbed the two dwarves, while dispatching a few lizardmen with their subordinate Puki to guard this rift.
The high temperature from the other side of the rift was unsettling, not knowing what it connected to, it seemed necessary to interrogate these unexpected visitors.
Moreover, the rift seemed to be expanding, to be safe, Lin Jun planned to bring more people to guard it.
Now he only hoped this was just an accident, not a precursor to an enemy’s attack.
The rift expanded rapidly, and when the reinforcements arrived, they encountered the first Elemental Spirit passing through the rift.
The fiery spirit emerged from the rift, now half the size of Puki, wantonly spreading its flames around.
Then,
without being attacked, the flames diminished, the temperature dropped... finally "whoosh," extinguishing itself...
