Star Gate-Chapter 1697: Life is Very Exciting! (II)
Energy wasn’t created out of thin air—it was produced at the cost of Void and Li Hao’s energy, as well as Li Hao’s life span. Altogether, that only permitted a peak seventh rank to recover for a brief period.
This wasn’t borrowing strength, it was better than that since Fog Mountain was a peak seventh rank to begin with. He could fully control this level of strength and instantly familiarize himself with it. There wasn’t a need for attrition for him to acclimate to peak seventh rank.
Off to the side, color drained from Li Zhu’s face. His dao of hiding was starting to buckle under the strain. He could sense unbounded pressure as the chaos tribulation locked onto him. It was beyond furious. As good as the dao of hiding was, it deepened the chaos tribulation’s intensity and fury each time it was employed.
“How much longer?” growled Li Zhu. “It won’t be long before my domain shatters!”
Their presence would spill out as soon as it broke and the chaos tribulation would be upon them!
It was at least a peak seventh rank tribulation, if not eighth rank. It would be extremely troublesome to weather even if they redirected it to Red Moon major world and spread the thunderbolts over a world of exalted emperors.
That would only weaken a portion of it, it wouldn’t completely weaken the tribulation.
“Hold on for a bit longer, senior! Just think about a seventh rank major world in your grasp!”
“......” Li Zhu was immensely resigned. No shit, I know that. Why else would I be here?
They were facing two seventh ranks, more than one hundred exalted emperors, and a chaos tribulation. Anyone else would’ve long peed themselves with fright. It’s already a demonstration of my utmost bravery to be here, talking to you!
People die in the pursuit of fortune! Since there are no further opportunities for me in Skyward, I have to seize my chance here no matter what!
Fog Mountain’s presence continuously grew stronger; the domain around them shuddered, showing signs of crumbling.
More thunderclouds gathered at an increasingly fast pace, as if they couldn’t wait to tear at the occupants inside. They churned with fury!
......
Red Moon major world.
Griefstricken was still basking in a rare moment of relaxation when he suddenly frowned at the sky. Why was there... a certain sense of suffocation in the air?
Strange!
He hesitated, then vanished on the spot.
......
Moments later, Griefstricken arrived at the world gates. There was only one set for Red Moon and with the Red Moon master gone, there were four sixth ranks guarding it. There were also a handful of fourth and fifth ranks, just in case anything untoward developed here. Not even a seventh rank would quickly break through the world gate if they came.
“Master Griefstricken!” The exalted emperors bowed when they saw the man.
Griefstricken frowned slightly. “Have you guys sensed anything?”
“There seems... to be a suffocating sensation,” said a sixth rank after a moment of contemplation.
So I’m not the only one? Griefstricken’s frown deepened. That might mean something was truly amiss. Strange, what can give me this feeling?
He looked around, not seeing anything out of the ordinary since Li Hao and the rest weren’t present. They were on the other side of Red Moon.
Despite not seeing anything, he didn’t dare easily depart. It would be very dangerous to leave Red Moon.
“Master Griefstricken, are there... some shadows over there?” An exalted emperor pointed to the side. “Is that a chaos beast that wants to invade us?”
The massive shadow did resemble a chaos beast. Griefstricken frowned into the distance. A chaos beast?
There were numerous chaos beasts in the universe, but... how would one dare attack an eighth rank major world, despite its strength? Did it have a death wish?
“Should we notify Mistress Wave Moon of Skywave?”
“There’s no hurry,” responded Griefstricken. “We haven’t discovered anything wrong yet. Disturbing exalted emperors of other worlds when everything seems fine... won’t we be belittled by them? We just need to be a bit more careful and send word for our exalted emperors to go on patrol.
“No one is to enter closed door cultivation in recent days. If there really are chaos beasts that attack us, we must be careful as well...” He blinked as he gave orders, finding that something seemed to have attached itself to the world and its mysterious dao universe.
Indeed, attached!
Red Moon’s dao universe was so mysterious that outsiders were hard pressed to catch a glimpse in ordinary times. However, its obscure qualities were no match for the fact that there were three exalted emperors on Red Moon originally from Silver Moon. Not only that, but they bore minute traces of Silver Moon strength.
That also gave Li Hao a chance to lock onto Red Moon and its dao universe. The useless dao of attachment was once more proving its worth!
The dao of hiding completed another transfer of presence, resulting in a massive thundercloud that was half the size of Red Moon blotting out the sky!
Griefstricken paused, staring incredulously at the sight. He recognized it, but didn’t want to at the same time!
Was this... a thunder tribulation?
A chaos tribulation?
His expression changed wildly as he thought of something. “This is... damn! Can it be... our lord...”
Had the Red Moon master attacked the exalted emperors of the other three major worlds??
Indeed, this was the first thought that came to mind.
He knew of the treaty of great dao and was one of its participants. He was well aware that the terms they’d signed stipulated that once the Red Moon master attacked those of the other worlds, he would be smote by an eighth rank chaos tribulation!
This was their agreed upon term!
Hence, this was the first thought that came to mind when such a powerful chaos tribulation showed itself. “Don’t notify Wave Moon!” he called out urgently.
It seemed that the heavens did indeed smile upon Li Hao this time. The young man didn’t know about the alliance.
When the chaos tribulation, and an immensely powerful one at that, suddenly appeared, it put one notion into Griefstricken’s mind. Either enemies were invading or the Red Moon master had plotted against the three world masters!
He’d broken the terms of the agreement, which was why this thunder and lightning was here!
If Li Hao had known that he didn’t need to worry about two major exalted emperors appearing at the same time, he might have chosen to treat Griefstricken as a top priority target!
What a pity that the young man was unaware of the misunderstanding and that Griefstricken was reeling from the thought that his world master had become a traitor. If Wave Moon appeared at this time, she might attack Griefstricken instead because she would also be misled into thinking that her world master had been attacked by Red Moon!
It was such a shame that Li Hao was in the dark. Otherwise, he would have been the happy third party to benefit from two squabbling targets.
How did Griefstricken dare send word to Wave Moon?? He absolutely did not!
How could he ever explain himself if Wave Moon came and saw the chaos tribulation on the scene?
“All exalted emperors are to summon their dao strength and defend against the chaos tribulation. Hurry!”
Damn it!
Griefstricken didn’t know who he should curse. Perhaps he should yell at his own world master. What did you go and tear up the agreement for?? Why enter an alliance in the first place if you weren’t going to uphold it?!
Even if you did enter it, you should’ve left Orchid Forest behind! That’s what you said at first! But now you’ve taken Orchid Forest and left Wave Moon. Did you think you couldn’t handle four seventh ranks, so took only three with you??
Griefstricken was about to pop from anger! 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
......
“Hmm?” Li Hao’s group pulled up. The young man frowned, finding the situation a bit odd. The others were baffled as well.
Thunder and lightning had appeared in Red Moon’s skies, but Red Moon’s Griefstricken seemed to be... touched in the head. He didn’t investigate where they came from or care about them at all, really. He simply issued orders for Red Moon exalted emperors to withstand the tribulation.
Have they... seen through our plan?
According to the original plan, Fog Mountain and the Sword Sovereign would lay an ambush here and wait for the enemy to investigate. The two were supposed to erupt in a flash and just kill whoever came!
And yet, no one came.
Not only did no one come, but they didn’t seem surprised at all by the thunder and lightning. They quickly responded by summoning the Red Moon exalted emperors to erupt with dao strength and defend against the tribulation.
Why was this the response?
The Sword Sovereign looked at Li Hao with a bit of pity. Your plan... seems to have been seen right through again.
“Griefstricken looks like a shrewd man of many schemes as well!” Fog Mountain took a deep breath. He’d chosen to focus only on defense at a time like this. Although there were many holes with that decision, defending meant that he had time to wait for the arrival of another seventh rank!
They were in trouble now!
In reality, they were simply thinking too much. How was Griefstricken any sort of shrewd and calculating individual?
His only thought was that his liege had betrayed the alliance and triggered the chaos tribulation. What else could he do now apart from defending the world?
He was deathly afraid that the neighboring Wave Moon would take note of the commotion. If she did, she would jump to the same conclusion he had. Things were about to get dicey—Wave Moon might even attack them instead!
But even so, Griefstricken was rewarded with good fortune for his misunderstanding. Due to his refusal to investigate the anomaly, he saved himself from being attacked by many powerhouses. If he had, he would already be dead.
It was Li Hao who suffered immensely; the young man was quite dejected. He wanted to cry, but had no tears to!
Are my plans really that bad? Can anyone see through what I want to do??
Who would’ve thought that Griefstricken would be so smart?? So there are people on Red Moon who aren’t controlled by their desire! They can stand firm against their curiosity and suspicion to focus on defense at first light. Damn that’s insane!
Immensely resigned, Li Hao watched thunder and lightning swiftly descend. It hovered over his head, Void, and Li Zhu’s. There was none over Fog Mountain’s, since he was just a participant and not one responsible.
In addition, endless thunderbolts surged into Red Moon. They splintered toward the Red Moon exalted emperors!
Immense thunder and lightning erupted over their targets. Li Hao ground his teeth. Fucking hell, he was pissed! Griefstricken wasn’t coming out of Red Moon to investigate!
He might know who the enemy is... After all, chaos tribulations are basically my trademark. Although it’s one stronger than I am this time, who else is he gonna guess when a chaos tribulation appears out of nowhere?
Li Hao gnashed his teeth!
