Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 98: Are You So Hungry You’ll Eat Anything?
As soon as Audrey Sutton went upstairs, she noticed Barry Barrett and Flora Lane standing in the hallway, looking at her with an amused expression. Barry said, "Just meeting Comrade Sutton downstairs, and look at him, all smiles and rosy-cheeked!"
"I’ve been watching from this floor for ages, not even a kiss. Boring."
Audrey Sutton blushed and glared at the two of them: "He was just here to give me my campus card. What are you two imagining?"
"Shouldn’t the Third Young Master have given you a goodbye kiss when he left? Did you just wave him off like that?"
Audrey retreated into the dormitory, her tone sweet with a hint of pride: "I’m not going to kiss him just to show you."
Barry immediately caught up with her, face full of gossip: "Then what did you do at home? A French kiss?"
Audrey rolled her eyes, blushing slightly, and slipped into the bathroom.
Because her mind unexpectedly started to imagine scenes of her kissing Shane Warner.
Audrey realized that in Shane Warner’s eyes, she might be a woman who draws risqué pictures, but in the dorm, she was definitely the most innocent.
Flora and Seraphina Vaughn were both experienced, and Barry was gradually being led down their path.
Audrey used to join in their dirty jokes, but now she was the only one married, and their banter inevitably ended up about her.
Her roommates probably fantasized about all kinds of scenarios between her and Shane, but truthfully, she and Shane had only held hands.
Three months into marriage and claiming they’ve just held hands is hard to believe.
Even in a marriage without love, most men would likely take advantage of the marital status for physical benefits, but Shane Warner mostly acted like a gentleman, occasionally teasing her with a few suggestive words.
Actually, she sometimes quite hoped he would take some substantive actions, like the day on the rooftop; if it hadn’t been for Norman Sutton interrupting, perhaps her first kiss would have been given to the man she loved most.
But upon reflection, she realized that even without Norman’s interruption, Shane might not have gone further, or he might not have intended to kiss her at all.
Yet she had shamelessly closed her eyes, as if expecting something.
Maybe, at that moment, he was secretly laughing at her.
During lunch, she sat across from him beside the coffee table in his office.
Audrey couldn’t resist sneaking glances at his lips—not too thin, not too thick, their shape very appealing—and wondered if with him...
With those images in her mind, Audrey paused entirely, hurriedly stuffing two mouthfuls of food into her mouth to stop herself from daydreaming.
Shane glanced at her: "Daydreaming while eating, what are you thinking about?"
"Huh?" Audrey was startled, then gave a dry laugh, "Oh, nothing... How’s today’s food? Does it suit your taste?"
"I’m not picky, but potatoes are higher in calories; next time, you can replace them with tomatoes or radishes, they’re tasty too."
Audrey pouted, scooping up a spoonful of potato rice and stuffing it into her mouth, "But I prefer potatoes."
She spooned a piece of beef from her bowl into his and switched it with a chunk of his potato.
Shane merely glanced at her without saying anything.
"You’re not fat; how could eating a couple of potatoes be that calorically high?"
Shane: "I’m just afraid you’ll get fat."
Audrey: "..."
Shane: "Don’t you feel your face becoming a bit rounder?"
Audrey immediately retorted: "Nonsense, I’m several pounds lighter than before we married."
"Are you implying I’m not treating you well?"
Audrey huffed coldly, muttering: "Anyway, not treating me particularly well."
Shane’s eating paused, looking up at her, as if he wanted to say something but held back.
In her heart, she believed he didn’t treat her well?
Audrey mulled over and asked him: "Do you like those athletic girls, like... Crystal Wilson for example?"
Shane chuckled, instead of answering: "Why do you care about what kind of girl I like?"
Audrey paused, then said: "I was just casually asking. With all these delicacies, I’m curious what kind of gourmet could catch your eye."
"No matter how jaded, you still have to eat when hungry."
Audrey pounced on his words: "So you’re saying you’re indiscriminate when hungry?"
Shane took the opportunity to jab at her: "Otherwise, why else would I marry you?"
Audrey: "..."
Suddenly, the potatoes in the bowl were no longer appetizing.
Audrey said insincerely, "If you find a woman to your liking, let me know. I’ll make space for her."
Shane pretended not to sense the jealousy in her words and deliberately twisted her meaning: "Knowing to make space shows you’re a good kid."
Audrey wanted to hear at least a "You’re quite good," or "I’m too lazy to look for others, let’s make do with you," but didn’t want to joke about it.
Moreover, she felt he was deliberately avoiding the issue she raised, and perhaps one day he’d truly meet a girl and feel they’d met too late, then ask her to make way.
"I’m not eating anymore; I’m heading back to school. Take the lunch box home yourself tonight after work." Audrey put down her chopsticks and wiped her mouth haphazardly with a tissue, grabbed the bag behind her, and walked towards the office door.
Shane noticed half of the food remained in her lunchbox, and according to her usual habits, she’d clean her plate.
"Come back!" he called to her retreating back.
Audrey stopped at the doorway, frowning slightly, looking at him puzzled.
"Finish your meal." His tone was like a parent lecturing a child who doesn’t want to eat.
Audrey "hmphed": "I’m so full of anger, eat it yourself!"
Shane knew she’d inevitably buy milk tea downstairs, so she wouldn’t go hungry.
Taking the elevator to the first floor, as the door opened, she saw a familiar face. Instinctively, she smiled at the man standing outside the elevator door, recalling his name in an instant and greeted, "Mr. Bishop... what brings you here?"
Julian Bishop paused when he saw her, then softly responded, "Here to discuss something with Shane."
Saying this, he stepped into the elevator.
Audrey stood outside, watching the elevator doors close slowly, suddenly feeling that this Julian Bishop reminded her of her fifth brother.
Quiet and reserved.
But in comparison, her fifth brother’s expressions were always gentler, even without expression, there seemed to be a gentle smile in his eyes; whereas Julian Bishop’s aura was much colder, had he not been Shane’s friend, Audrey might not have dared to greet someone who radiated "stay away" so strongly.
As Shane predicted, as Audrey left the company, she ducked into a milk tea shop across the street.
She didn’t expect to run into familiar faces there too.
