Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 85: Came to Catch Me Cheating?
Shane looked at Audrey Sutton, who still eyed Phoebe King with a hint of hostility, making him feel both amused and exasperated.
With a tone of slight pity and helplessness, he said, "This girl came here early in the morning, secretly stalking me. She probably saw me accompany you on a shopping trip last night, and sat alone by the roadside until her eyes were swollen. I just found her and brought her back."
Audrey initially felt that these were things that made her incredibly angry and wronged, but hearing Shane say them, she inexplicably felt a bit embarrassed.
Phoebe King couldn’t help but burst into laughter and teased, "So it turns out she’s a little jealousy queen,
Sis, you’ve really misunderstood. I just returned to the country yesterday and don’t have many friends here, so I came looking for Shane. Who knew it would turn into such a big misunderstanding? Luckily, nothing happened to you, otherwise Shane would definitely have settled with me!"
Audrey glanced at Phoebe King. After her experiences with Lan Irving and Clarissa Morgan, she no longer dared to judge people solely by appearances.
She couldn’t help but suspect if Phoebe King was saying this just in front of her.
Shane seemed to understand what Audrey was thinking and added, "She’s a relative on my grandmother’s side, technically my distant cousin."
Upon hearing this, Audrey’s heart suddenly cleared up.
She immediately felt that she had made a fool of herself, especially since she had cried so miserably.
No wonder Shane was so irritated in the car earlier, calling her brainless...
"What are you doing here?" Shane asked Phoebe King.
Phoebe sighed, "I went downstairs to buy a pack of cigarettes and locked my room card inside by accident, so I came down to find them to help me unlock the door."
"Alright, we’re going up first, don’t wander around at night."
"Alright, alright, Shane, sis, you guys have a good rest. I’m really sorry for causing this misunderstanding with sis."
Shane just smiled, holding Audrey’s hand as they walked towards the elevator.
Causing this scene wasn’t all bad; it served as a lesson for her so she wouldn’t come up with wild stories without using her brain in the future.
After the truth was revealed, Audrey felt the most embarrassed.
She really didn’t know what silly things she’d done that day.
Standing in the elevator, Audrey could see her tear-stained makeup looking utterly disheveled in the mirrored wall.
She stealthily glanced at Shane, feeling like she had embarrassed herself big time this time.
But how did he find out she was lying? When she sat alone on the street, she didn’t expect him to come find her.
When she got his call, her excitement and bitterness intertwined, and when she saw him appear, she felt that his so-called "wrongdoings" didn’t seem so unforgivable.
"Ding—"
When the elevator stopped at the floor, Audrey realized it was her hotel floor, surprised at the coincidence of being on the same floor as Shane.
Upon arriving, she found him stopping at the door of her booked room, "What are you standing there for? Open the door."
Audrey looked down, rummaging through her bag for the room card, and swiped the door open.
Before she could enter, Shane slipped inside first.
She didn’t have much luggage, just a backpack packed with skincare, cosmetics, and a change of clothes.
He picked up her backpack, looked around, unplugged her phone charger from the bedside, and asked her, "Is there anything else?"
Audrey shook her head. He was ready to head out with her stuff when she suddenly said, "I’ve already paid for this room."
Shane paused and looked at her, "Are you saying you plan to stay here tonight? Letting everyone know you ran here instead of staying with me, sneaking to catch me cheating?"
Audrey timidly retorted in a low voice, "I didn’t plan to catch you cheating..."
Shane held her wrist, pulling her out of the room, "Then why didn’t you tell me you were coming to find me?"
"...I just wanted to surprise you."
Shane looked at her skeptically, thinking that such a thing was indeed something she would do.
It was truly amusing yet exasperating having her causing chaos so late at night; she felt aggrieved while he found it annoying.
He thought it was actually quite pitiful of her. Rarely having a weekend, she traveled so far to see him, intending to make him happy, only to find him with another woman.
He wouldn’t have known if he hadn’t noticed something wrong with her tonight, just letting her cry on the street all night.
Going up to his room, as soon as they entered, he said, "Go get washed up and sleep quickly."
Audrey touched her mildly aching stomach, looked at him, and quietly said, "...I’m a bit hungry."
Shane paused while taking off his jacket, turned to frown at her, "You didn’t have dinner?"
She shook her head, "No."
Shane glared at her helplessly, took out his phone, and asked, "What do you want to eat?"
She thought for a moment and said, "Spicy hot pot or rice noodles."
"Don’t eat such heavy meals at night, have some hot porridge instead."
Audrey didn’t dare say anything, feeling uncomfortable in her stomach but agreeing that hot porridge might help, "...Could I have some steamed dumplings too?"
He considered for a couple of seconds, "Okay."
After she finished her bath, the takeaway food had arrived.
He opened the porridge for her, placing it on the table. It was just at the right temperature that wouldn’t burn her mouth.
The porridge was substantial, and the dumplings tasted pretty good.
Perhaps because she was starving the whole day, she finished everything cleanly.
Sitting on the sofa watching TV, Shane noticed her mood had calmed down now, so he asked her, "Tell me what was going through your mind while you were sitting there crying."
With her suspicions cleared and her stomach satisfied, Audrey slowly felt better.
After wiping her mouth with a tissue, she gave him a look and said, "Thinking about who I should marry next."
Shane chuckled, lifted his gaze at her, "Have you decided? If anyone’s brave enough to take you, I’ll personally deliver you tomorrow."
Audrey snorted coldly, "Since it was a misunderstanding this time, I’ll give you another chance and not hold it against you."
"Haven’t learned anything else, but you’ve learned to use Faye Xavier to check on me, huh?"
Audrey was startled, realizing how he found out she was lying, all because Faye leaked it.
Turns out you can’t trust men.
Audrey turned around, ready to plop herself onto the bed, but Shane sternly said, "Clean up the table!"
"Why are you shouting?" Audrey mumbled, standing up quietly to dispose of the takeaway boxes into the trash.
"Have you noticed I’ve been acting differently these past few days?" After cleaning up the table, Audrey probed him.
Shane tore his eyes away from the TV, glanced at her with a tilted look, and said, "Definitely different."
Audrey eagerly asked, "How so?"
"Your intelligence hit a new low."
Audrey’s eyes widened, "I meant outwardly, something you can see."
Shane gave her another glance, saying, "Your eyes are swollen." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"No!"
"New clothes?"
"No!!" Audrey anxiously and deliberately made a gesture of brushing her hair, hinting at him, "Look closer."
