Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 80: Do You Like Shane Warner?
After helping Audrey Sutton drink half a cup of tea made by Laura Yates, she mumbled a few incoherent words and then fell onto the pillow without a sound.
Laura Yates noticed Audrey was sleeping all over the place, and since the tent wasn’t particularly large to begin with, she asked Shane, "Do you need me to set up another tent for you? While those guys over there are still awake, they’ll help set it up really quickly."
"No need for the trouble. With her like this tonight, I won’t feel at ease not watching her. You go rest."
Laura nodded, "Then you should rest early. If you need anything, let me know."
"Alright."
After Laura left, Shane closed the tent door.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Shane put away the cosmetics that had spilled over the bed when she was searching for her ring, and packed them into her backpack.
He also tidied up the clothes she’d piled messily in the corner. Marrying her really felt like marrying a daughter, as there was always something to worry about.
"Shane..."
Shane paused his folding motion, turned his head to look at her, saw her smacking her lips, flipping over, and then splaying out like a starfish, even kicking over the clothes he’d just folded.
Sighing helplessly, he moved her foot away and put the neatly folded clothes into the suitcase.
Noticing a small box with a red cross inside the suitcase, he opened it and took out an ointment.
He had packed this for her before going on a business trip, and had specifically reminded her to take it the day before she left. It seemed like she was listening to him.
He reached out and grabbed her foot, finding the mosquito bites on her foot and gently applying the ointment with a cotton swab.
She wasn’t sleeping deeply, and while he was applying the ointment, she turned over and opened her eyes.
Her gaze was empty, and after her eyelashes trembled, she closed her eyes again.
Shane put the medicine bottle away and lay beside her, propping his head with his hand as he looked at her, and adjusted the blanket for her.
She sleepily looked at him with half-opened eyes, then snuggled into his arms.
Shane stiffened as he watched her nestle up against his chest like a little shrimp, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
He poked her forehead, moving her head back a bit so he could see her face, gently calling her name, "Audrey Sutton."
Her eyelashes fluttered, and she opened her eyes halfway, as if she had heard but was still obviously dazed.
"Who do you... like?" he asked.
Her eyes were blank, and two seconds later, she gave a silly smile and shut her eyes again.
"Do you like Shane?" he teased, playing with a lock of her hair.
She murmured something indistinct, closed her eyes, and fell silent.
Shane sighed, pulled her into his arms, and turned off the lightbulb on the top of the tent with his other hand.
They’d already shared a bed on the cruise, but Shane had never held her like this.
Initially, he felt quite satisfied.
In the latter part of the night, she started her "martial arts" performance again.
She would either kick the blanket off or bump her head against him, waking him up several times during the night in a daze.
Around five o’clock, seeing the sky starting to brighten, he slipped out of the tent and sat outside, lighting a cigarette.
"Third Young Master, you’re up so early too?"
Shane cast a sidelong glance at Crystal Wilson but said nothing.
Crystal walked closer and peeked into the tent, with General guarding fiercely at the entrance, presenting a formidable stance towards Crystal.
"Is Audrey not awake yet?"
Exhaling smoke, Shane impatiently said to Crystal, "Don’t disturb her sleep."
Crystal checked her watch and said, "Aren’t we supposed to get up for a run at six? We can wake her up to wash up and get ready."
"She slept late, she’s not going. You go ahead, let her sleep a bit more, don’t disturb her."
"Then let’s have Audrey sleep some more, and we’ll go? She should be awake by the time we finish."
Shane said in a steady voice, "Don’t talk."
Standing behind Shane, Crystal felt slightly frustrated by her repeated failures.
She had come out specially wearing a sexy athletic outfit, but Shane didn’t even look at her.
Unwillingly, she stood there for a moment before silently leaving.
Shane had seen many women like Crystal. Maybe Faye Xavier would toy with such women, but he had no interest in even entertaining them.
Luckily, Audrey said she didn’t like Crystal. If the two were friends, he’d worry Crystal might lead Audrey astray.
Hearing a rustle from behind the tent, Shane turned to see if she was awake, and saw just her head sticking out of the tent entrance.
With eyes still squinting as if not used to the outdoor light, hair slightly disheveled, she looked as silly as ever, and he couldn’t tell if she was sober or not.
Standing to the side, Shane lowered his head and asked, "Sleepwalking?"
She dawdled out of the tent, her frowning face indicating discomfort, mumbling, "I need to go to the bathroom."
Turns out it was a physiological need that made her wake up so early.
Shane reached out a hand to steady her, watching her stand outside the tent for a moment before heading directly to the RV.
Her walk wasn’t as unsteady as last night, so Shane didn’t support her, just followed behind with General, maintaining a polite distance.
It was still not yet six o’clock, and after a late night, she clearly hadn’t had enough sleep, so after using the bathroom, she returned to the tent.
Today was the last day of camping, and their boss organized a lunch at a hotel, marking the official end of the event.
Around nine o’clock, seeing that everyone was starting to wake up and pack their things, Shane finally woke up Audrey.
She sat in bed in a daze for a while, yawned, and then slowly came to her senses, asking, "When did I fall asleep last night? I don’t remember."
Shane, packing her suitcase, said, "Do you remember how many bottles you drank?"
Audrey furrowed her brows, seriously thinking, "There should have been ten bottles or so?"
"Seems like you didn’t do well in math since elementary school. You didn’t finish six bottles before you were out."
Audrey awkwardly laughed and moved over to help put her things into the suitcase, asking as she packed, "I didn’t do anything embarrassing, right?"
"Think carefully."
Audrey said uneasily, "Probably not... Everyone says when I drink too much, I just sleep, no drunken antics."
"So you often end up like this when drinking?"
"Not really, just a few times with Flora and the girls in the dorm."
Shane glanced at her, "If I’m not around, don’t drink."
Audrey frowned, earnestly contemplating if she’d embarrassed herself in front of him last night.
"Oh right! Didn’t Crystal ask you to go for a run? Why didn’t you wake me up? Did you go with her alone? Did she say anything to you?"
