Chapter 778: Chapter 778: You Miss Her Too, Don’t You?

The girl here for the blind date is likely another family’s debutante.

She looks polite and refined, the type that elders really like.

Wendy Jennings really likes this girl, so much so that she wishes she could drag Miles Sterling to the marriage bureau right away to get the certificate with this young lady.

Miles Sterling sits on the side throughout, spending most of the time looking down at his phone, aloof and indifferent to everyone.

There’s really nothing to see on his phone, because the person he’s thinking about definitely won’t send him any messages. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"I see you don’t have any plans tonight, how about going to see a movie together after dinner?"

The girl smiles without any intention of refusing, but turns her head to look at Miles Sterling, seemingly waiting for his response.

Miles Sterling shifts his gaze from his phone, puts the phone back in his pocket, stands up, and says, "I won’t be home for dinner; you can go watch the movie yourselves."

The smile on the girl’s face momentarily freezes, clearly feeling embarrassed.

Wendy Jennings keeps giving Miles Sterling looks, but he acts as though he hasn’t seen a thing, walking to the entrance to grab the coat from the coat rack and putting it on.

Seeing this, Cynthia Ramsey stands up as well and politely says to Wendy Jennings, "Then, ma’am, we’ll take our leave."

Wendy Jennings rolls her eyes at Cynthia Ramsey, who doesn’t seem to notice, and follows Miles Sterling out.

But Miles Sterling doesn’t wait for her, and by the time she steps out, his car has already driven away.

"So, you’re not Brother Sterling’s love interest? I thought he was cold to me because of you."

Cynthia Ramsey hears the voice and turns her head—it’s the girl who had the blind date with Miles Sterling.

In front of the elders, she feigns a docile demeanor, but behind their backs, she shows her true colors.

Cynthia Ramsey curls her lips into a smile: "Even if I’m not his love interest, it’s definitely not you."

The girl lets out a sneer: "I know there used to be a very special girl around Brother Sterling, said to be his sister, but their relationship was never proper. However, that girl is already dead, and sooner or later I’ll replace her and become Brother Sterling’s wife."

Cynthia Ramsey sneers: "Then congratulations in advance."

After speaking, Cynthia Ramsey strides out of The Sterling’s mansion.

At the street corner, she hails a cab, her mind full of thoughts about what the girl had just said.

Has that girl named Vanessa really passed away?

Things seem clearer now; Miles Sterling’s requests for what she should wear and how she should style her hair make sense.

Apparently, Miles Sterling wants to turn her into a second Vanessa, creating the illusion she’s still alive.

For a moment, Cynthia Ramsey doesn’t know whether she or Miles Sterling is more pitiful.

But, since that girl is already gone.

Being a replacement and rising to the top isn’t impossible.

Judging by Miles Sterling’s usual demands of her, it appears that girl wasn’t very proactive with him.

Therefore, Cynthia Ramsey feels she doesn’t need to rush to be forward; that might just backfire.

She decided to quietly wait for Miles Sterling to reach out when he needs her.

After leaving The Sterling estate, Miles Sterling drives around aimlessly through the streets.

Spring has quietly arrived, the night has lost its winter chill, and the evening breeze softly wafts through the car window with a unique healing power, allowing one to temporarily set aside the irritation in their heart.

The car passes that familiar bridge, and at the end of it, lies the place filled with many memories.

Miles Sterling parks downstairs and ascends with his keys.

He’s been coming here quite often lately, all because of the little cat.

Normally, he wouldn’t care much for these small animals, yet this cat was brought back by Vanessa Sterling.

Even if it’s just an ordinary cat, it’s become extraordinarily special.

Especially since the cat somewhat resembles her.

It was initially very frightened of him, but now, whenever he returns, the moment he opens the door, he sees the cat squatting by the door, eagerly welcoming him.

Today is no exception.

Miles Sterling bends down and picks up the now much chubbier Blackie, holding it in his arms. Blackie acts very affectionately, constantly meowing and rubbing its head against him.

"You miss her too, don’t you?" Miles Sterling murmurs to the cat.

Of course, Blackie can’t understand or respond, and instead, it just peacefully curls up in Miles Sterling’s embrace.

Miles Sterling thinks a moment, gently sets Blackie on the sofa, then gathers some cat food in a sealed bag along with a few cans of cat food, before placing Blackie into a carrier and heading downstairs.

Cats are naturally sensitive to unfamiliar environments, and once in the car, Miles Sterling releases Blackie from the carrier. Blackie curls itself on the rear seat, her whole body shadowed in darkness, with only her eyes round and vigilant, scanning her surroundings.

Looking like that, she resembled Vanessa Sterling when he first met her.

No matter how dirty she seemed, her eyes were pure and clear.

But now, those eyes are no longer as untainted as they once were.

They’re filled with so many emotions.

Despair, helplessness, hatred, disgust, and a trace of elusive ferocity.

Miles Sterling drives through the night, arriving at the beachside villa.

When he arrives, it’s already ten o’clock at night.

It seems everyone has gone to rest, apart from the two servants tasked with caring for Vanessa Sterling overnight.

"Young master, why have you come so late?"

Miles Sterling enters, placing the cat carrier on the floor as Blackie cautiously emerges.

In the familiar comfort of home, Blackie would roam wildly, but now it hides its head and tucks its tail, staying cautious and alert.

"Oh, what a cute kitty."

Miles Sterling asks indifferently, "Is she asleep?"

The servant points to the whistling kettle on the stove and says, "Miss is having her period; her stomach is in a lot of pain, so I came down to make her some brown sugar water."

Miles Sterling stays quiet, turning to prepare Blackie’s food and utensils, watching as Blackie carefully investigates the new environment.

Once the servant finishes with the brown sugar water, Miles Sterling stands to take it: "I’ll take it up; just make me something to eat."

The servant hesitates for a moment before nodding: "...Alright."

Given the argument just a few days ago, Miles Sterling still has bandages on his forehead.

She’s worried that once he’s upstairs, another altercation might ensue between them.

Miles Sterling carries the brown sugar water upstairs. The maid in the room freezes upon seeing him, ready to speak but Miles Sterling signals her with his gaze to leave the room.

Vanessa Sterling lies on her side on the bed facing away from the door, unaware of the commotion by the entrance.

She hears footsteps but assumes it’s one of the two maids caring for her, paying little attention.

Miles Sterling sets the cup on the nightstand, standing by the bed for several seconds before coldly asking, "Is it painful?"
