Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 70: Starfield Suspected of Plagiarism
Shane started the car slowly and asked Audrey Sutton, "You just mentioned there’s an event on the website next month?"
"Yeah, from August 9th to August 11th, three days."
"Where is it held?"
"At Hibiscus Lake, I heard the lotus flowers are beautiful."
"Can I bring family members?"
Audrey eagerly nodded, looking at him expectantly, "Sure! Are you coming with us?"
Shane said casually, "Take General along, I might be on a business trip, but if I come back early, I can go find you."
"Then when are you going on the trip?"
"Wednesday."
Audrey counted on her fingers, not many days left.
The Starfield new product will be unveiled on August 1st at ten in the morning, officially starting the presale.
On the night of July 31st, Shane was sitting in the living room watching the evening news, while Audrey was watering the plants on the balcony.
When the news ended, Shane turned off the TV, stood up and said to Audrey who was tending to the flowers on the balcony, "I’m going upstairs for a shower."
"Okay, go ahead. Do you want a midnight snack? I can cook for you."
"No, if you’re hungry have some fruit. Don’t eat anything oily or spicy late at night, your period is coming up, don’t drink cold water."
Audrey paused her actions and turned her head to look at Shane walking upstairs.
She was puzzled; she hadn’t even remembered her own cycle...
After watering the plants, Audrey washed a few grapes and sat by the coffee table to eat.
"Buzz buzz—"
Hearing the phone vibrate, Audrey’s gaze fell on his jacket draped over the armrest of the sofa.
She looked up at the upstairs, put down the fruit plate, took out the phone from his pocket, ran upstairs, and knocked on his door, "Your phone call!"
A reply came from inside the room, "Who is it?"
Audrey glanced at the name on the screen and replied, "Old Man Bishop."
In less than two seconds, Shane opened the door, loosely tying his bathrobe, holding a towel while drying his dripping wet hair and said to Audrey, "Answer it, put it on speaker."
Audrey did as told, and as soon as the call connected, Julian Bishop’s voice came through, "Celestine just launched a new product."
Shane was somewhat puzzled, just saying calmly, "It’s okay, each has its own market, no need to mind."
Julian Bishop’s tone suggested that things weren’t that simple, "I sent you the link on WhatsApp, take a look first."
After hanging up the call, Shane opened WhatsApp, and Audrey curiously leaned over to have a look.
He opened the link Julian Bishop sent him; it was the presale page for Celestine’s new product. Even Audrey could tell at a glance, "Isn’t this... The Lunar Palace?"
Shane knitted his brows, clicked on the image to look at the details.
Celestine named this piece "Moon in the Stars," both in design and material, it was almost identical to Shane’s upcoming "The Lunar Palace."
Who plagiarized whose design, insiders knew well.
But to the public, Celestine was the one who released it first, and since Starfield’s products would only be officially unveiled tomorrow, if they find out both featured identical main products, Starfield, releasing later, would be naturally deemed as copying Celestine’s creativity.
Though Celestine’s glorious days had passed, it still had a significant fan base and market as an old brand.
Starfield, a rising star in the jewelry industry in recent years, had already become mainstream, with each new release receiving considerable attention.
No matter which company faces a design plagiarism scandal, it would be a fierce battle without gunpowder smoke.
"How did Celestine acquire this design? Did they see my comic? But if so, they should have asked for my authorization!"
Audrey’s words instantly enlightened Shane, his frowning brows eased, lips slightly curved, his deep, dark eyes as he called Julian Bishop back, "Release the new product as planned."
Julian Bishop was silent for a moment, then asked, "Should we temporarily cancel The Lunar Palace?"
"No need, it will still be the main highlight, increase the promotion, besides..."
Shane paused, hanging the towel to dry his hair on the hook by the door, continuing on the phone, "Find some media outlets and bloggers, report on the ’Starfield suspected of plagiarizing Celestine’ topic after the new product release, stir up the buzz first. I have a meeting tomorrow afternoon, schedule the press conference for three thirty, I’ll be there in person."
Julian Bishop, a bit puzzled by Shane’s approach, trusted he had his reasons and said after two seconds of silence, "The design was under high confidentiality, investigating the leak might be a good idea."
Shane lowered his eyes, remained silent for two seconds and said, "I’ll talk more about it when I go to the company tomorrow afternoon."
After he hung up, Audrey asked him worriedly, "What are you going to do?"
Shane put away his phone, looked down at her and said, "Get some rest early."
"Is there anything I can do to help? Like proving that the work is yours!"
Shane chuckled slightly, "You’ve already helped a lot. Good night."
Audrey, still baffled, returned downstairs, finished the grapes, and went back to her room.
Lying in bed, she was still worried about his issue. Starfield had just gotten on track, and if such a plagiarism scandal broke out, it would definitely impact Starfield significantly.
But seeing Shane confident as if he has already planned out how to handle it, she decided to wait for his good news.
Perhaps because of the Starfield issue, when Audrey woke up, Shane had already left.
He left a note on the refrigerator, suggesting she takes General for a walk after waking up, saying it’s cooler in the morning and the air is nice.
Audrey, not in the mood to make breakfast alone, took General out for a walk in the park, then casually bought a basket of dumplings from a nearby shop.
She and General shared half each.
At ten in the morning, while she was in class, she sneakily took out her phone to check the launch of Starfield’s new product punctually.
Within less than a minute, the notification for Starfield’s new product launch popped up, immediately followed by a news alert on X about "Starfield’s new product suspected of plagiarizing Celestine."
Audrey clicked in to take a look, there were already thousands of comments below.
User A: This plagiarism is so obvious! It’s practically identical!
User B: I’ve always liked Starfield’s designs, never thought they’d plagiarize.
User C: Let’s see, Celestine’s reputation hasn’t been great these past years, so who plagiarized whom is uncertain.
User D: Let’s wait for the Third Young Master to clarify, Starfield has always been very strong; there’s no need to self-destruct through plagiarism.
...
Audrey went and liked all the comments supporting Starfield, but seeing the growing clamor, she was still quite worried about how Shane would handle the sharp-tongued reporters that afternoon.
