Chapter 660: Chapter 660: Then I Wish You Good Luck

Heath Holloway clearly didn’t expect to see Vanessa Sterling and Miles Sterling together. When he saw Miles, the smile on his face immediately vanished, and he returned Miles’ gaze with a fierce look of his own.

Vanessa Sterling suddenly felt a sense of inexplicable unease. She was afraid Heath would cause trouble for himself and even more afraid he’d bring trouble her way, so she didn’t reach out to accept the box in Heath’s hand and just said coldly, "You should leave quickly. Don’t come here again."

As soon as she finished speaking, Miles Sterling walked up to the two of them, reached out, and took the small box Heath was handing to Vanessa. He immediately untied the ribbon tied into a bow on the box and began to open it...

Heath’s brow furrowed, and he snatched the box back with a scowl, glaring at Heath fiercely and saying, "Do you want a beating too?!"

Miles looked coldly at Heath, clearly unfazed by Heath’s threat. By contrast, Vanessa felt even more uneasy, fearing the two might really start fighting again. She hurriedly said to Heath, "You should just go, and stop bothering me."

Heath frowned and said, "Vanessa, it hurts to hear you talk like that."

Miles glanced at Vanessa, ordering coldly, "You go upstairs first."

Vanessa hesitated, looking at Miles and then at Heath. She was quite worried Heath might get hurt; after all, he hadn’t really done anything wrong, but Miles was never one to care about innocence or guilt.

Not daring to defy Miles’ words, she turned and walked toward the building.

Heath frowned as he watched Vanessa’s retreating figure and called out, "Vanessa, you should at least take the gift, I’ve been waiting for you all night!"

Vanessa didn’t dare respond, and without turning back, she walked into the elevator.

After Vanessa entered, Miles slightly smiled and said to Heath, "Want me to give it to her for you?"

Heath looked at Miles with disdain and cursed, "Who do you think you are? Her brother or her father? She’s an adult with the freedom to choose who to love. You don’t live on the edge of a sea; your meddling is quite intrusive!"

Miles let out a cold laugh, "Then you go ahead and try to see if she’ll choose you."

Heath: "Then don’t scare her, if you’ve got the guts. She’s clearly afraid of you. Leave her alone and see if she chooses me!"

Miles locked his car door, a smile on his face that somehow seemed sinister, "Well, I wish you good luck."

With that, Miles pocketed his car keys and walked into the building.

Heath called after him, "I don’t believe you can control her for a lifetime!"

Miles didn’t look back or halt, but Heath’s words seemed to strike a chord deep within him.

A lifetime is a long time, and he doesn’t know what the future holds, but for now, he doesn’t allow Vanessa to belong to anyone else.

He doesn’t even want to change the status quo, thinking it might be okay to live like this forever.

But he still can’t change reality, like how he can’t avoid the blind date tomorrow.

When he went upstairs, Vanessa had already returned to her room, and Miles didn’t go to disturb her, climbing the stairs deep in thought.

Vanessa initially thought Miles would once again get angry over this so-called suitor.

She had been forced to drop out of school because a boy confessed to her there, and Miles found out. After that, he made her move out of the school and forbade her from going back.

Back then, she had a bit of a rebellious spirit, feeling that Miles shouldn’t interfere so much in her life; whether she liked the boy or not should be her decision, not Miles’ to dictate her life.

So after being expelled, she was very averse to Miles’ actions for a while, deliberately going out often as if in defiance, returning very late at night; but her rebellious streak didn’t last long before touching the bottom line of Miles’ patience.

He had the lock on her door changed, so the current room could only be locked from the outside, and he locked her inside. After more than half a year, confirming Vanessa had submitted, he slowly began to loosen the restrictions, giving her a little bit more freedom.

She slowly got used to her current life after Miles’ punishment during that half-year period.

She doesn’t know when the next change will come, although she has grown accustomed to now, she still yearns for freedom in her heart.

As for love, she no longer has any extravagant hopes. She just hopes that one day she can freely do what she likes and go where she wants.

...

The fireworks painted the cold winter night sky, bringing life to the evening.

Norman Sutton was having some late-night barbeque and drinks with friends by the riverside before driving to Lana Holloway’s rented place.

As soon as he entered the neighborhood, he saw a young couple holding hands up ahead, lingering as if reluctant to part, saying their goodbyes under the building.

Squinting to make out their faces, Norman immediately furrowed his brow.

His car slowly pulled over to the side of the road, watching as Zachary Wilson and Lana Holloway waved goodbye to each other, Lana taking three steps and looking back before walking into the building.

Norman glanced at Zachary Wilson disappearing into the distance in his rearview mirror and quickly got out of the car, following up the stairs.

He took another elevator to follow them up.

Just as he caught up, Lana Holloway was turning the key and opening her door.

"Ahem!" Norman faked a cough to draw her attention.

Lana turned around to see him, "What are you doing here?!"

Norman replied sarcastically, "Why shouldn’t I be here? I messaged you, and you didn’t respond, only to find you’re out with your senior until this hour?"

Lana retorted, "What’s it to you?"

Norman pressed on, "Were you with him all day? Where did you go?"

Lana demanded, "Why should I tell you? Who are you, minding other people’s business!"

Recalling the tender farewell scene between her and Zach the couple downstairs, Norman noted the difference in Lana’s demeanor when she’s around her senior, a stark contrast to her usual reserved behavior around him.

Heart speaking the thoughts in his mind, Norman asked, "Did you confess to him?"

At that, Lana’s expression lightened, as if recalling a sweet moment, her tone carried a hint of pride, "It was him who confessed to me."

Norman’s brows knit tighter, as he probed further, "Did you say ’yes’?"

Appearing slightly puzzled, Lana responded, "Why wouldn’t I?"

Something she never dared to dream had come true; she’d be foolish not to say yes.

Hearing this, Norman’s expression soured—more so than if he’d just swallowed something vile. Staring fiercely at Lana, too enraged to speak, he stormed into the elevator.

Lana gave him a baffled look as he left, mumbling to herself as she walked inside, "What a nutcase."
