Chapter 625: Chapter 625: Even Breathing Is a Mistake

The night is deep and silent, snow quietly covers the entire city, leaving a thick blanket of snow.

A thin layer of ice forms on the river.

Due to the cold, there are hardly any pedestrians on the bridge, with only a few vehicles passing by, making this winter night particularly desolate.

"Ah... gentler, Miles, slower... hmm..."

The woman’s coquettish panting passes through the living room wall to the guest room on the first floor.

Vanessa Sterling wears earphones, listening to music at full volume, unable to hear the sounds outside, but also unable to fall asleep.

Miles Sterling has been acting strangely lately, going out less, but bringing women back more often.

Actually, Vanessa Sterling would prefer if he spent the night outside with these women, so at least she could move freely between her room and the living room.

"Meow~" Blackie is also drawn by the sounds outside, pacing by the door and occasionally meowing.

After being woken up by the noise, Vanessa Sterling has been listening to music with her earphones for over half an hour, feeling somewhat drowsy but unable to sleep.

Struggling internally, she still climbs out of her warm bed, wraps in her robe, and turns on the light in the room.

She walks to the bay window, looks at the unfinished puzzle, hesitates for a moment in front of it, but then goes to the desk instead to start drawing on her computer.

Miles Sterling, irritated, lets go of his strength, not gently dropping the woman onto the floor.

He bends down to pick up his fallen robe, wrapping it casually around himself.

When he walks by and sees the light on in Vanessa Sterling’s room, his mood worsens immediately.

Without knocking, he boldly pushes open Vanessa Sterling’s door.

When Miles Sterling stands at the door, Vanessa is sitting at her desk with her back to him, drawing on a graphics tablet while wearing earphones, unaware of his presence.

"Miles, it’s late, can I... stay over here?" The woman has dressed and follows to ask him.

Miles Sterling ignores the woman’s question, steps up behind Vanessa, and pulls out her earphone cord.

Vanessa Sterling is startled, turning around to see Miles standing behind her, and just as she’s about to react, Miles commands, "I’m hungry. Go make me something to eat."

Vanessa pauses, glancing at him, then at the woman standing outside, unsure, she sets down her pen, looking for her slippers by the stool.

"Miles, what do you want to eat? I can fix it for you?"

Miles Sterling frowns, looking displeased at the woman, "You can leave now."

"It’s snowing and hard to get a cab, plus it’s so late..."

"Figure it out yourself." Miles Sterling turns and walks past the woman, leaving the room.

The woman continues to stand by the door, gauging Vanessa Sterling.

There’s a hint of timidity in Vanessa’s eyes as she glances at the woman. When she approaches, the woman smiles and asks, "What’s your relationship with Miles? Are you his girlfriend?"

Vanessa quickly shakes her head, and the woman asks again, "A maid?"

Vanessa hesitates, then replies, "...sort of."

The woman smiles intriguingly, asking, "What does Miles usually like to eat? Let me make it for him."

Vanessa is stunned, then shakes her head.

The woman raises her eyebrows in surprise, "Aren’t you the maid? Don’t you know what he likes since you take care of his meals daily?"

"What are you dawdling for?" Miles Sterling impatiently presses, and Vanessa immediately walks out.

She doesn’t know how to make much. Frozen dumplings are the most convenient and delicious for her, so she doesn’t bother asking Miles what he wants, knowing she couldn’t make it even if he told her.

In her mind, she thinks him calling her to make a snack means he must want dumplings, so Vanessa simply boils some water and takes out a bag of frozen dumplings from the fridge.

The woman glances towards the kitchen, then at Miles smoking on the sofa, leaning in to say, "Miles, Christmas is soon. Do you have any plans?"

Miles Sterling doesn’t respond, takes a deep drag on his cigarette, sits up slightly, flicks the ashes into the tray.

"A friend of mine booked a bar for a party. If you don’t have plans, come with me?"

Miles frowns, exhales the smoke, saying, "We’ll see when the time comes."

"If you have other plans, I can go with you, or... we can go out alone."

Clearly, Miles isn’t in the mood for these discussions, turning his head to glance at the kitchen as he brings the cigarette back to his lips.

The woman tilts her head, leaning against Miles, smiling softly, "Miles, I plan to visit Japan soon to see around, will you come with me?"

Miles Sterling looks down at the woman leaning on his chest, his face grim as if intending to push her away, but when he sees Vanessa Sterling coming out from the kitchen with a bowl, his outreached hand instead wraps around her.

Feeling encouraged by this gesture, the woman nuzzles against Miles, wrapping her arms around his waist.

When Vanessa sees this scene coming out, she’s neither surprised nor bothered, placing a bowl of dumplings and chopsticks on the coffee table in front of Miles, saying nothing, then turns to head back to the kitchen.

Miles frowns even more, purses his lips, and calls out, "We’re two people here, how do we eat with one pair of chopsticks?"

Before Vanessa answers, the woman leaves Miles’s embrace, smiling understandingly, "It’s okay, I don’t usually eat late at night. Miles, you eat by yourself. I’ll go shower first and wait for you upstairs."

Miles hadn’t planned on letting this woman stay overnight, but in front of Vanessa, he tacitly allows it.

Watching the woman head upstairs, Vanessa returns to the kitchen where there’s not much to clean after boiling dumplings, only washing the pot she used and wiping the counter before heading back to her room.

Miles eats the dumplings, watching Vanessa return to her room indifferently, he sets down his chopsticks, looking displeased, stays silent for a moment, then carries the bowl to Vanessa’s room, slams it beside her desk, and scolds, "This terrible stuff can only be eaten by you, right? You seem to like it, here, eat it and show me."

Vanessa doesn’t know what’s causing his sudden outburst; she doesn’t know what to do to please him. Should she not even exist in his sight? To him, her mere breathing is a mistake that angers him unreasonably.

As if dissatisfied with Vanessa’s hesitation, Miles grips her cheeks, forcing her mouth open, and crudely stuffs a dumpling into her mouth...
