Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 62: I’m Doing This for Your Own Good
Audrey Sutton’s room.
She took a clean nightgown from the wardrobe and handed it to Laura Yates, saying, "This was a nightgown I really liked before."
Laura Yates took it with a smile and said, "You’re willing to let me wear it?"
"I was worried you’d mind that I’ve worn it."
"No way! I’ll go shower now, you hurry up and draw."
"You’re unbelievable! Out of ten sentences, three are about urging for new work."
"You have no idea how well your comics are selling right now. The website is contacting a publisher; they’re planning for a physical release, so you really need to draw faster!"
Audrey Sutton, feeling helpless, walked to her computer desk, opened her computer, and said with a sigh, "I shouldn’t call you ’sister-in-law,’ I should call you Luna instead, you’re a heartless devil."
"Sister-in-law just wants what’s best for you."
Laura Yates went into the bathroom to take a shower, while Audrey Sutton began to focus on her drawing.
Shane Warner, after dinner, left not long after, seemingly to return to the company to handle something.
About ten minutes later, Laura Yates came out of the bathroom, walked quietly behind Audrey Sutton, and asked, "I heard you attended Young Master Sterling’s wedding on a cruise a few days ago? How was it? Was the ship fun?"
Audrey, while coloring a sketch, replied, "It was fun, now that was a luxurious cruise! The ship had everything you can imagine, and most importantly, the ocean view was stunning. If possible, I could live on that ship forever."
Laura Yates slowly got to the point: "But I heard from your second brother that you caught a cold on the ship, quite a bad one, and he also said... you lost your memory."
Audrey Sutton’s hand paused, she turned the chair around to face Laura Yates, and whispered, "Actually, I was faking it. I didn’t lose my memory."
"Faking it?"
"Shh — I’m only telling you, you must keep it a secret for me."
Laura Yates nodded, sat on the stool next to Audrey Sutton, and asked her, "Why did you pretend?"
Audrey Sutton pursed her lips and honestly said, "Because I was mad at him."
Laura Yates pressed on, "Mad at your husband? Why?"
"Promise you won’t laugh at me when I say it."
"Go ahead."
Audrey Sutton took the cushion from the chair back and hugged it, half-lowering her eyes, her tone a bit downcast, "I mentioned his female secretary to you before, do you remember?"
Laura Yates nodded, "Mm-hmm."
"On the ship, she was the one who pushed me into the water, but then she jumped into the pool herself. She bet with me to see who was more important to Shane."
Laura Yates listened attentively and softly asked, "What happened after?"
"I can’t swim, so I was in a bit of a panic. When my third brother pulled me out of the water, I saw Shane pushing her onto the shore, which made me really sad." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"Could it be some misunderstanding? I think Third Young Master cares about you." Otherwise, he wouldn’t have asked her privately to clarify things.
"But he still chose to save his secretary first." Audrey Sutton wasn’t sure if Shane cared about her. Even if he did care a little, this small care might be insignificant compared to Lan Irving, who had been with him for six years.
Her dilemma wasn’t whether Shane had feelings for Lan Irving; she knew Shane had no romantic thoughts about Lan, but even if it was just friendship, it was a six-year-long friendship. A wife who married him less than two months ago couldn’t possibly compare to their six-year bond.
Laura Yates didn’t know the specific situation at that time, she just comforted Audrey Sutton, "Sometimes men don’t even consider such complexities in their emotions. You’re silently sulking, and he doesn’t even know why you’re upset. Your second brother often does that, sometimes when I’m angry and tell him to leave me alone, he actually leaves me alone and goes to play games with his friends at the internet cafe, it’s maddening!"
Hearing this, Audrey Sutton felt that compared to that, Shane wasn’t too bad.
When she told him not to talk to her, he hesitated beside her for a long time before leaving, and shortly after, he brought her a fruit platter and even started a conversation trying to engage.
But at that moment, she really didn’t want to see him, and seeing him just made her feel so wronged that she wanted to cry.
"Right... what did he say to you earlier?"
Laura Yates hesitated but then told Audrey Sutton the truth, "He asked me to come and ask you about it, actually, he hasn’t let go of what happened on the ship either, he just doesn’t know how to find a way to understand your thoughts, so he thought of asking me to help inquire. You see, he cares about you."
"I’ve always felt that he just treats me like a sister or a child, caring for me sincerely, but I feel it’s unrelated to love."
Laura Yates patted Audrey Sutton’s shoulder, "After all, you’ve only been married for two months, and there wasn’t any emotional foundation before, many things need to be slowly adapted to, give each other a bit more time."
Audrey Sutton nodded. Her current thought was that as long as Shane didn’t divorce her, she still had the hope of making him fall in love with her.
"...Sister-in-law, could you not tell him what we just talked about? I don’t want him to know I’m upset over this kind of thing."
Laura Yates gently smiled and said, "If there is a conflict or misunderstanding, you should talk it out, otherwise, you’ll keep a knot in your heart, and he won’t know how to help you untangle it. In marriage or love, the most taboo thing is keeping things bottled up, second-guessing each other, even trivial matters can snowball into something huge."
Audrey Sutton thought for a moment and said, "I’m afraid he’ll think I’m being unreasonable."
"If you don’t tell him anything and then act out, that’s what really seems unreasonable to him. You decide, should I tell him, or will you?"
Audrey Sutton hesitated, furrowing her brows, staying silent for two seconds before saying, "...You help me tell him, I don’t know how to start."
"Alright, it’s too late now, I’ll call him tomorrow morning."
Audrey Sutton nodded and then said, "Sister-in-law, there’s actually a question I’ve always wanted to ask you."
"Hm?"
"Why did you almost end up in a marriage relationship with Shane?"
Laura Yates sighed lightly, "My family situation is quite complicated, it was, in the end, for the interests of the family. They felt that marrying into The Warner was an opportunity everyone would want to seize, so they would stop at nothing to try and marry me to The Warner. That day I took a gamble, betting if your second brother would come; if he came, I’d go with him."
Audrey Sutton imagined the scene of her second brother interrupting the wedding must have been quite impressive, then said, "Our Sutton family isn’t bad either."
Laura Yates explained, "Actually, back then, your second brother and I hadn’t officially started dating, but we both had feelings for each other. The night before the wedding, I sent him a message telling him I was getting married the next day. On the day of the wedding, after putting on the gown, he pretended to be the wedding car parked downstairs at my house and picked me up. Looking back now, it actually seems quite romantic."
Hearing this, Audrey Sutton couldn’t help but feel internally amazed; some events indeed seemed destined by fate.
If Laura Yates hadn’t missed the wedding that day, it might have resulted in the end of two love stories.
