Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 61: Unscrupulous People
As soon as Audrey Sutton heard Shane Warner’s name, she quickly slipped on her slippers and walked briskly towards the kitchen.
She saw Shane wearing an apron standing in front of the counter, while her mother, who usually cooked at home, stood by the side smiling and praising him non-stop.
"Audrey, you’re back? Come and taste the dishes Shane made. Everything on that table outside was made by him. You chose a good husband."
Audrey didn’t say anything, turned to look at the dining room, and saw the long dining table filled with all kinds of dishes, making it look like a cooking competition.
Even though her face didn’t look any better, her stomach honestly let out a "gurgle".
Hazel Yates came out and spoke to the sons sitting on the sofa in the living room, waiting for dinner: "Wash your hands, get ready, it’s time to eat. You should learn more from Shane."
Norman Sutton, who was cracking melon seeds, frowned impatiently and said, "Mom, you’ve been nagging about this all evening."
"You didn’t listen even after several nights of nagging! You’re not a child anymore; your sister is married, and it’s time for you all to bring home a wife!"
The older brothers remained silent, as their ears were numb from the constant nagging about marriage.
Only in his early twenties, Norman jokingly said, "Don’t just say bringing a wife, even bringing children isn’t a problem!"
Samuel Sutton, reading the evening paper, glared at him through his reading glasses, "If you dare to have an illegitimate child out there, I’ll break your legs!"
Facing the strict Samuel Sutton, Norman started to act childishly, "Dad, I was just joking, and you took it seriously!"
"You should learn properly from your brothers instead of being all over the place every day."
Norman immediately dragged Scott Sutton into the water, "Like learning from fourth brother to grow long hair?"
Scott furrowed his eyebrows, "You damn! Do you believe I’ll break your legs first?!"
Hazel interrupted the bickering father and sons, "No swearing! Don’t let Audrey pick up on it again."
Audrey, afraid the bickering would target her, quickly changed the topic, "Why isn’t second brother back yet?"
"He just called; he should be on his way now."
"With so many dishes, perhaps we should invite second sister-in-law over as well."
Hazel suddenly realized, "Oh right, I’ll call him to bring Laura over."
Hazel walked to the living room to get her phone, while Shane came out of the kitchen with a finished dish.
Audrey, standing in the dining room, exchanged a glance with him, then quickly looked away, hesitating whether or not to apologize to him for the incident at noon, wondering if he was angry. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
She pursed her lips, wanting to speak but couldn’t find the words.
After putting the dish on the table, Shane asked her, "What did that person named Feng want from you?"
This time, Audrey gladly took the opportunity to explain, "He wanted me to help design a new movie poster."
Hearing this, Shane found it reasonable. If it was work-related, he didn’t mind; after all, he wasn’t that unreasonable.
Audrey pursed her lips, looking at the tables full of dishes, then teased him to change the topic, "You quit being a driver to become a cook now?"
Shane slightly raised his eyebrows, his dark eyes deepened, and he looked at her with an unclear smile but said nothing and turned back into the kitchen.
The lass was still acting.
But seeing her attitude was much better than at noon, at least the dishes weren’t made in vain.
Opening her stomach, it shouldn’t be long before opening her heart.
Laura Yates and Franklin Sutton arrived in about ten minutes, and during dinner, Audrey and Laura sat together, chatting happily as they ate.
As the only girl among the seven children, there was a limit to the topics Audrey could discuss with the men, but having Laura, who was around her age, felt like finding a long-lost confidante.
With their professional connection, they naturally had endless topics to talk about.
Shane sat next to Arthur Sutton, watching Audrey across the table.
Although he was talking about work with Arthur, he was thinking about how to get Audrey to open up about the matter on the ship.
Seeing Laura chatting well with Audrey, it might be a breakthrough.
After dinner, Audrey and Laura walked General in the backyard.
Shane watched them from a distance, thinking of a plan.
"Who are you staring at?"
Hearing this somewhat unfriendly voice, Shane turned to see Franklin Sutton standing behind him. He just glanced at him without saying anything.
Neither liked each other.
Franklin stepped forward, speaking seriously, "I warn you, don’t put your mind on Laura, and if you aren’t loyal to my sister, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life!"
Shane merely looked off into the distance, leisurely blinking.
"Don’t act deaf and mute with me. I’m telling you this upfront; if you misbehave, don’t blame me for not warning you."
Shane didn’t even glance at Franklin, treating him like air from start to finish.
Not only did he ignore Franklin’s words, but he also headed towards Laura and Audrey.
"Miss Yates, may I have a word?"
Both Laura and Audrey were taken aback; Laura shot Audrey a look, thinking it best to avoid interaction with Shane after the runaway marriage incident.
Hearing Shane’s request, Audrey was a bit puzzled, but she knew Laura had no feelings for Shane.
Curious about what Shane wanted with Laura, Audrey chose to be understanding and leave them.
"I’ll head back first, you two chat." With that, Audrey took General back inside.
Laura awkwardly stood there, worriedly watching Audrey’s retreating figure, afraid she might misunderstand.
Once Audrey was far enough away, Shane finally spoke to Laura, "I want to ask for your help with something."
...
Franklin saw Audrey return alone, leaving Laura and Shane over there. As Audrey approached, he hurriedly asked, "What’s going on? What does he want with Laura?"
"I don’t know." Audrey stopped, also looking uneasily at the not-too-distant pair.
But she knew Laura well enough to believe it would be fine.
Franklin couldn’t hold back anymore and strode over there.
As he approached, he heard Shane say to Laura, "Then please take care of this matter."
Laura hadn’t had time to respond before Franklin pulled her away, "Don’t talk to those kind of people!"
"He came to me about something to do with Audrey."
"Audrey?"
"Mm, can I stay over tonight?"
Franklin was stunned, the frown he had just a second ago immediately softened, and he asked Laura with a smile, "...Didn’t you say you’d wait until after we’re married to stay over with me?"
Laura rolled her eyes at him, "I’m sleeping with Audrey!"
As Laura ran towards her, although curious about what Shane and Laura discussed, Audrey didn’t dare to ask.
