Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 598: Damn Woman
The glaring sunlight poured through the panoramic floor-to-ceiling window of the hotel room. Faye Xavier lay on the bed in the same position as last night, and the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes was the dazzling light outside the window.
He furrowed his brows and shifted slightly; sleeping in this position the entire night made him feel neck pain, numbness in his arms, dizziness in his head, and discomfort all over his body.
He clenched his teeth and crawled out of bed, somewhat unable to remember what happened last night.
After spacing out for a while, he glanced around, not spotting Jasmine Lucas anywhere, and tentatively called out, "Jaz?"
Of course, there was no reply.
He remembered coming to the hotel with Jasmine Lucas last night, surely there for "business"; he vaguely recalled something might have happened or might not have happened between them.
Because he had no recollection of anything in that regard and wondered when exactly he fell asleep last night.
Why did it feel like the blackout after getting drunk, leaving his mind muddled and hazy?
Faye Xavier picked up his phone, noticing it was nearly ten o’clock, and suddenly snapped to alertness.
Seeing several missed calls from Morgan Quinn, he recalled there was a meeting this morning. Without time to ponder the events of last night, he hurriedly searched for his clothes, turning the room upside down, but couldn’t find the outfit he wore yesterday.
Could an upscale hotel let thieves in? Thieves that exclusively steal clothes?
Tightening the towel around his waist, he stepped out the door, intending to inquire about the situation with the hotel staff.
As he entered the elevator, he felt the gazes of the surrounding people were somewhat odd, some even laughing. Faye didn’t pay attention because if he saw a man wandering around wrapped in a towel, he would probably mock and laugh like them.
"What’s going on with your hotel? My stuff is missing." Faye’s voice reached the front desk before he did.
The three girls at the front desk paused when they saw him in that state and his displeased expression, only to smile and respond, "Sir, what happened?"
Faye firmly stated, "My stuff is missing, check the surveillance cameras."
"Sir, the security at our hotel is very high; we have security personnel patrolling every floor at night. The cleaning staff only enter the room after obtaining guest permission or after checkout, so before you checked out, no one would have entered your room. What did you lose? Let’s go back to your room and take a good look, shall we?"
Faye was miffed but felt a few pieces of clothing weren’t valuable enough to cause such a commotion, which would be embarrassing. Besides, it was getting late; if he didn’t hurry back to the company, he might miss his bonus again.
"Forget it, get me a set of men’s work attire from your hotel; I’ll pay you. Hurry, I’m in a rush."
One of the girls paused, "Sir, please follow me."
After Faye turned to follow the girl away, the two remaining girls at the front desk could no longer hold back their laughter, covering their mouths, "Did you see what was written on his back?"
"I bet he was cheated on and his girlfriend took revenge, or he met a girl online who set him up, only to wake up and find all his valuable things gone. Didn’t such a thing happen before?"
"How could a girl committing fraud then write ’jerk’ on his back, that’s just too bold."
"Haha, who knows?"
The hotel’s men’s work attire consisted of a white shirt with a black vest. Faye thought the vest made him look too much like a waiter, so he just wore the white shirt and left.
Luckily, it was a sunny day, so wearing just this didn’t feel too cold.
When Faye reached the parking lot and found his car, he immediately noticed several long scratches on the car body. He had just bought the car recently and had spoiled it, only for it to be ruined like this. Gnashing his teeth angrily, he glared around the parking lot as if he’d tear apart the person who scratched the car if he found them.
Amid his anger, he rationally thought repairing the car wouldn’t be cheap. He must not lose this month’s bonus. The priority now was to rush back to the company and minimize the deductions if possible.
After driving away, Faye pondered whether one or two unlucky events could be attributed to bad luck, but constant misfortune implied someone was deliberately causing trouble.
Thinking about the mysteriously vanished Jasmine Lucas, it wasn’t hard to connect these events with her.
While waiting at a red light, Faye glanced at his phone’s lengthy notification bar. Sure enough, at eight o’clock, there was a bank card deduction notification for the card he had given Jasmine Lucas last night.
Faye quickly opened Jasmine’s chat page, still fearing he had misunderstood her, and holding back his anger, he gently sent Jasmine Lucas a voice message, "Darling, where are you?"
As soon as he sent it, Faye saw the red exclamation mark in front of the message box, and suddenly realized what had happened.
Realizing he’d been played by a woman, conned out of so much money without even having had any rest, his heart felt obstructed. He gripped his phone tightly, squeezing until his knuckles were white, "That damn woman, just wait!"
Meanwhile, on the street Faye’s car passed, a woman dressed in a casual hoodie dress, carrying a large black backpack, strolled along, chewing gum and listening to music with earphones, cheerfully humming to herself as she walked into a nearby bar with a half-pulled-down gate.
During the daytime, the bar was closed; inside, a few women lay sprawled on different lounge seats, some chatting, others playing on their phones, some speaking sweetly to men over the phone.
"Where’s Miss Jennings?" Jasmine Lucas asked from the lobby.
A girl self-mixing drinks at the bar replied, "She went out on business. I heard you landed a big client?"
Another girl on the sofa, who was playing with her phone, sat up and curiously asked Jasmine Lucas, "Which big fat pig did you fleece?"
The short-haired girl on the swing chair said, "Our Jaz is really something; she has a high mission completion rate and can still make a clean getaway."
Another girl applying nail polish teased, "I reckon some people manage to leave because they don’t want to; when she sees someone handsome, she thinks of staying the night."
The short-haired girl chuckled, "Haha, it’s a personal hobby, of course, you can’t miss out on handsome guys."
Jasmine Lucas clenched the straps of her backpack, contemplating whether, having scored such a big sum, she could guarantee her complete escape this time.
She didn’t know if Faye Xavier would come back to cause trouble, but she had already informed Miss Jennings of her plan to take a break and dodge the heat for a while before returning to pick up assignments.
Thinking Faye Xavier looked quite wealthy and from what previous women had said, Faye seemed quite generous with his spending on women, frequently shelling out tens of thousands, so a hundred thousand wouldn’t likely faze him, just missing the chance to court a dozen or so women. She thought he probably wouldn’t fixate on this matter.
