Chapter 584: Chapter 584: Cousin, You Really Are Stingy

Shane slowed down the car, turned the wheel, and glanced at Audrey Sutton, saying, "I’ve noticed your mind works pretty fast with these things, but when it comes to serious matters, it gets rusty."

Audrey Sutton grumbled in dissatisfaction, "You’re scolding me again."

Shane: "If I hit you, it’s affection; if I scold you, it’s love."

The car quickly arrived at the police station entrance. As Shane parked, he said to Audrey Sutton, "Wait for me in the car."

Audrey Sutton nodded at first, then changed her mind and said, "I’ll go with you."

Shane just smiled without saying anything, walked around the car to her side, waited for her to get out, locked the door, put her hood over her head from behind, and walked into the police station with her in his arms.

The officer at the police station led Shane to get Heath Holloway, while Audrey Sutton sneaked into Franklin Sutton’s office, peeking inside just in time to meet his gaze.

Franklin Sutton stood up and walked over, asking her, "Why did you come over? Did you come alone? Where’s your husband?"

Audrey Sutton pouted unhappily, saying, "He’s going to get that little brat. I’m telling you, Franklin, if he causes trouble, just lock him up. You don’t have to give Shane any face."

Franklin Sutton raised his hand and gently patted Audrey Sutton’s head, or more precisely, the little pom-pom on the hood covering her head, "Are you teaching your brother how to do his job? Now tell me, what are you sneaking around here for?"

Audrey Sutton glanced outside the door, then cautiously closed it, whispering to Franklin Sutton, "Franklin, can you help me check on Shane?"

Franklin Sutton frowned in confusion, "Check on him? Check what?"

Audrey Sutton: "Just check his schedule from yesterday,

especially if there’s any record of him booking a room."

Franklin Sutton looked even more puzzled, "Yesterday? He was with me yesterday."

Audrey Sutton was stunned, "With you? He said he was on a business trip."

Franklin Sutton: "He probably didn’t want you to overthink things, so he wasn’t honest with you. We found a new informant, and he came with me yesterday to ask around."

As he spoke, Franklin Sutton started complaining, "The guy is quite hard to please; he’s a neat freak, isn’t he? We found a small restaurant for lunch, but he thought the place was unsanitary and barely ate. I thought we’d rest at a motel before heading back in the evening since we’d left early in the morning and hadn’t taken a break all day, but he insisted on rushing back because he couldn’t leave you."

Audrey Sutton felt sweet inside but also a bit guilty for doubting him after hearing this.

But looking at it from another angle, how to explain his unusual behavior last night and today?

Audrey Sutton thought for a moment and asked Franklin Sutton, "Franklin... Did something come up with his brother’s case?"

Franklin Sutton didn’t hide it from Audrey Sutton, saying, "The informant provided us with a lead on a person of interest. I’m out of ideas, but I think your husband knows something but hasn’t told us."

Audrey Sutton: "He’s been acting strange since last night. I feel like something happened to him, but he won’t tell me, so I thought he was sneaking out for mischief."

Franklin Sutton: "He wouldn’t dare. If he ever wrongs you, I’ll break his leg on the spot!"

Audrey Sutton: "Franklin, calm down. Don’t make the same mistake as last time and accidentally hurt him."

Franklin Sutton glanced at Audrey Sutton, "I’m helping you, and you’re still blaming me? You’re just protecting him!"

Audrey Sutton had lost her earlier eagerness to have Franklin Sutton investigate Shane, feeling a bit proud as she answered, "He’s my husband. Of course, I have to protect him."

Franklin Sutton: "I’ve spoiled you for nothing."

"Knock, knock—"

A knock sounded, followed by Shane’s voice from outside the door, "Come out, we’re heading back."

Audrey Sutton didn’t think twice and immediately turned to open the door.

Before she could express her earlier suspicions and apologize to Shane, she saw Heath standing next to him, cheekily saying to Audrey Sutton, "Hello, sister-in-law."

Audrey Sutton immediately retracted her smile, glanced at Heath, and didn’t respond.

She walked over, took Shane’s arm, and said to Franklin Sutton, "Franklin, we’ll head out first then."

Franklin Sutton nodded, gave Shane a look, seemingly wanting to ask him something, but feeling it wasn’t the right moment, he swallowed his words, lightly patted Heath’s head, and warned him, "Don’t let me see you again. Next time, you won’t get off this easily."

Heath was adaptable, knowing when to act humbly; he nodded and bowed, saying, "Thanks, bro, thanks, bro. I promise I won’t cause you any more trouble!"

The scene was similar to that night when Shane came to the police station to pick up Heath.

Audrey Sutton sat in the passenger seat listening to music, while Heath continued to chatter nonstop, unaffected by the lack of response.

The car pulled up to the dormitory building where Shane had arranged for Heath to stay. As the car stopped, Shane warned Heath, "Behave yourself. Next time, I won’t take care of it."

"Cousin, I promise there won’t be a next time!"

Shane rolled his eyes at him, urged, "Get out!"

Heath hesitated for a moment, then smiled, "Cousin, I haven’t had a decent meal for days. Since sister-in-law is here today, why don’t you take us out for a nice meal?"

"Get lost."

Seeing Shane’s cold and heartless attitude, Heath realized there was no hope for a free meal. As he opened the car door, he muttered, "Cousin, you’re really stingy. I came all the way here to rely on you, and you can’t even treat me to a meal."

"Close the door properly and leave quickly!"

With a pout, Heath reluctantly got out of the car, shut the door, and watched as Shane drove away without any intention of stopping. Standing in the wind, he watched the car’s taillights, shaking his head and sighing, "Cousin is a hard-luck fellow, looking glamorous on the outside. He must have his sister-in-law managing the finances at home. Otherwise, why would he be so stingy?"

The car turned the corner and parked in the underground parking lot of a supermarket.

Audrey Sutton grabbed a shopping cart at the entrance, and Shane, instinctively, moved it to his side, pushing it with one hand while holding Audrey Sutton with the other.

"That murderer was caught right here last time," Audrey Sutton surveyed the surroundings, "It gives me a psychological shadow every time I come here."

As soon as Audrey Sutton finished speaking, the sound of high heels running came from a nearby parking space behind them, followed by the voice she wasn’t fond of, "Audrey dear!"

Clarissa Morgan, as usual, wore a sophisticated long dress that made you shiver just looking at it. Even with a face mask on, you could see the exquisite makeup through her eyes.

After the drama she starred in with Simon Sue aired, she appeared in several variety shows one after another. She’s now incredibly popular.

She walked over to Audrey Sutton, smiling, "What a coincidence, didn’t expect to run into you here."
