Chapter 564: Chapter 564: A Toast to the Lonely

Scott Sutton picked up an empty wine glass again and jokingly said to Norman Sutton, "You’ve been annoying for more than just a day or two."

Norman Sutton quickly finished the meat skewer in his hand and picked up a roasted chicken leg, saying, "I seriously suspect I was picked up on the street. I’ve had a tough life. Second brother, you should take me to the police station someday. I think my biological parents must be looking for me!"

Norman Sutton’s offhand joke made Scott Sutton pause while pouring wine, and he glanced worriedly at Evan Sutton. It was clear that Evan was reminded of something by the joke, but he just sipped his wine to conceal his emotions.

Franklin Sutton, oblivious to all this, teased Norman, saying, "You actually are picked up. I remember mom picking you up at a construction site in the south of the city. It was a dark and windy night, and you were wrapped in a big, colorful cloth, crying loudly. When they first brought you home, you were as skinny as a monkey. Had we not brought you back, our family might be richer now."

Norman Sutton continued to munch on the meat and retorted, "Sounds so real. Then let me ask you, what was mom doing at the construction site in the middle of the night? Stealing wires?"

Franklin Sutton replied, "She went there just to pick you up!"

Knowing this topic wasn’t very pleasant for Evan, Scott Sutton smoothly changed the subject, "By the way, it’s mom’s birthday tomorrow. She’s always said she hasn’t visited my bar since it opened. I’m planning to clear the place so we can have some family fun. Are you all available tomorrow night?"

Evan Sutton nodded, "If nothing comes up at the hospital, I can leave by five."

Franklin Sutton said, "Same here, I can go anytime if there’s no special situation."

Norman Sutton added, "I’m always free, but I don’t think we should clear the place. It kills the vibe. Isn’t the bar all about atmosphere? If it’s cleared, we might as well just hang out at home."

Scott Sutton nodded, "That makes sense. I’ll discuss it with mom in the morning and see what she thinks."

Norman Sutton joked, "Our dad was a nightlife prince when he was young, often taking mom dancing. Don’t underestimate them; they know how to have fun better than us!"

As the brothers were happily chatting, Samuel Sutton came downstairs for a drink, and upon hearing them, he said sternly, "Why aren’t you all asleep at this hour? What’s going on here?"

He then noticed the messy barbecue packaging and skewers on the table and frowned, "Eating such unhygienic stuff again!"

Scott Sutton laughed, "Dad, want a drink with us?"

Samuel Sutton replied, "Drink? No way. Clean up and go to bed!"

After that, Samuel Sutton turned and returned to his room with his water cup.

Scott Sutton looked at Norman, who was still enjoying his food, and smiled mischievously, "Second brother, you and little five have to work tomorrow. Go to bed."

Saying so, Scott Sutton stretched and yawned, "Didn’t sleep well today. I want to get my schedule right, so I’ll go to bed first. Six, clean up the table properly."

Norman Sutton paused mid-bite on his chicken leg, feeling like he had unknowingly fallen into a trap.

Franklin Sutton patted Norman’s shoulder and said, "You’re eating the most, so clean up to help digest."

"Are you guys even human?!"

Scott Sutton hooked an arm around Evan’s shoulder and the other around Franklin’s, leading them back inside, "Let’s go, let’s go. Can’t stay up late being old."

Holding a chicken leg, Norman turned to Evan, the brother he knew to be kind and soft-hearted, and said, "Fifth brother~ Are you just going to watch them bully me?"

Evan Sutton really stopped, looking back at Norman, contemplating staying to help him clean.

Scott also turned and said, "You think you’re the little sister? A grown man acting coy, finish your food and clean the table. Your brothers are doing it for your good; how is that bullying? Appreciate what you’ve got."

Finally, Scott wrapped his arms around his brothers again as they continued inside, yet he couldn’t resist teasing Norman, "Oh Six, having fun there with your ’raising a glass to invite the moon, forming three shadows’!"

Norman cursed under his breath as he watched his brothers walk away, then wolfed down the remaining skewers, grumbling, "I’ll find a rich woman and elope tomorrow! Never coming back! Even if you begged me! You’ll all regret it!"

After that, he raised his glass, glancing at the moon and then his shadow under the light, dramatically and forlornly reciting, "Raise a glass to invite the moon! Form three shadows with my reflection! Mr. Bishop! I totally understand how you feel! Let’s drink to all the lonely people!"

...

The next day, the autumn air was clear and refreshing.

Audrey Sutton, taking the chance while Shane Warner was at work, got Seraphina Vaughn to arrange for a mahjong table to be moved to the house. She invited Flora Lane and Phoebe King, and they played a few rounds.

Everyone knew they were going to the bar for Hazel Yates’ birthday celebration in the evening, so they didn’t play excessively. Phoebe King also planned to give Hazel a makeover to ensure she was the center of attention at the bar.

Thus, they returned to The Suttons’ around eleven and stayed for lunch.

Since getting married, Hazel Yates hadn’t frequented bars much, so she seemed quite excited this time.

After lunch, the women gathered in one of the rooms, with Hazel fitting in like one of their sisters, bridging any generation gap. Full of youthful enthusiasm, she stood before the wardrobe and asked, "What style should I wear to the bar?"

Phoebe King was the first to flatter her, "Mom, you’re in such great shape; you should definitely wear something sexy!"

Hazel Yates chuckled, "If I do, that old man at home probably won’t let me out."

Seraphina Vaughn, a non-believer in marriage, still harbored thoughts for Audrey Sutton’s third brother and, knowing that Phoebe King had married into the Sutton family with Hazel’s high approval, tried the same tactic. She immediately followed Phoebe’s lead and complimented, "Auntie, you look beautiful in anything! Honestly, I feel uncomfortable calling you auntie; you look young enough to be our sister."

Hazel laughed so happily she couldn’t close her mouth, "Gosh, all of you are so good with words!"

Audrey added, "Mom, seriously, when I posted our selfies on Moments, everyone thought you were my sister!"

Hazel replied, "Seems like all those skincare products were worth it."

Flora Lane surveyed Hazel’s wardrobe and suggested, "Auntie, I see you have quite a few qipaos. Maybe we all wear qipao tonight? It would have a unique flair."

Excited by the idea, Hazel replied, "Hey, I think that’s great! Who says you have to wear mini dresses to a bar? I’m decided; let’s wear qipao. Come on, let’s visit my shop and pick out the qipao you like."
