Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 551: Ruthless
After the lively event concluded, Audrey Sutton sat by the fountain on the square outside, resting her feet as she watched Shane Warner buying her cotton candy from a nearby stall.
She took out her phone from a hidden pocket, zoomed in on Shane, and pressed the shutter button.
"Tsk tsk tsk, aren’t you ashamed? You’ve been married for over a year, almost having a baby, and you’re still sneaking photos?"
Hearing the voice, Audrey turned to see Norman Sutton’s face and pushed him away in disgust: "None of your business, go away!"
Not only did Norman not leave, but he also sat down casually beside her: "Hey, your brother’s exhausted, buy me a bottle of water."
Audrey pointed with her chin to the fountain behind her: "Drink up, it’s free. Drinking it is like earning it."
"Raising you this big is such a waste. If it were Shane Warner, you’d definitely rush off to buy it."
Audrey: "I’d buy it for anyone, just not you."
Watching Shane approach with a bundle of rainbow-colored cotton candy, Audrey stood up with a broad smile to greet him: "Thanks, hubby."
"Let me have a taste," Norman leaned over.
Audrey turned her back to avoid him: "No, buy your own!"
Just after she spoke, Norman’s hand reached out and grabbed Audrey’s cotton candy, giving it a slight tug, leaving her with just the stick.
"Norman Sutton!" Audrey stomped her foot in anger. If she were a kid, she’d probably be sitting on the ground crying and rolling by now.
Norman laughed smugly, rolled the cotton candy into a small clump, stuffed it into his mouth, and said, "It’s not even enough to fill the gap in my teeth."
Audrey glared at Norman, gritting her teeth in anger.
Seeing his wife being bullied in front of him, Shane couldn’t stand it, and with a cold gaze at Norman, he said, "Buy another one."
Norman: "Brother-in-law, you’re really fussing over a few bucks? Why don’t you buy more yourself? I barely tasted anything before it was gone."
Audrey: "I’ll go back and tell Dad to deal with you!"
"Go ahead, he’ll just scold me, in one ear and out the other, it doesn’t hurt or bleed."
Audrey clenched her fists in anger, ready to fight him, but Shane took two steps forward, leaned in to Norman’s ear, and said quietly, "I have a lot of resources, and I noticed that girl selling handkerchiefs seemed quite talented. I’m considering giving her an opportunity to study abroad. I’m sure she’ll seize the chance."
Norman gritted his teeth and glared at Shane: "You’re ruthless!"
With that, he headed towards the cotton candy stall, muttering, "Buying it, it’s just cotton candy."
Seeing Norman suddenly become so straightforward, Audrey curiously asked Shane, "What did you say to him?"
"You’re curious about everything. Just enjoy your candy and don’t ask so much."
Audrey turned to look at Norman buying candy, wondering why. How could Shane settle him with just a few words when nobody else could handle him?
Could it be that... there’s always a bigger fish?
The anime convention would continue into the afternoon. Around eleven, Audrey found a restaurant near the venue. She initially invited Flora and the others to join her, but they all declined, not wanting to be third wheels.
Audrey understood, it wasn’t that they didn’t want to be third wheels, but probably because Barry Barrett introduced them to some handsome guys at the convention, so they went off to have their own fun.
A couple’s world is not bad either.
Just as Audrey was thinking this, persistent Norman shamelessly sat down again: "Have you ordered? Let’s eat together?"
Audrey: "You’re still here and haven’t gone back?"
Norman: "This place is fun, I haven’t finished exploring. I’ll continue this afternoon."
Audrey hinted, "I think it’s because Lana hasn’t closed her stall yet, and someone can’t bear to leave, right?"
"Say whatever you want, I’m too hungry to argue with you. Pass me the menu, I want some Buddha Jumps Over the Wall."
Shane: "Jump over to another table yourself."
Norman frowned: "Brother-in-law, you’re so stingy. It’s just a meal, and you’ve never treated me before."
Audrey: "Don’t you find being a third wheel a bit draining?"
Norman: "Ah, so you’ve got a husband and forgotten your brother, annoyed that I’m in the way, right?"
Shane turned to Audrey and said, "After we eat, why don’t we go by the handkerchief stall again?"
Audrey paused, but Norman immediately understood Shane’s implication, quickly got up, and moved out of the way: "Fine, don’t treat me, I don’t care about eating with you."
With that, he walked over to another empty table and asked a waiter for a menu. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Audrey looked at them curiously: "What secret are you two hiding?"
Just as Audrey finished her sentence, Quentin Sterling’s voice came from behind: "Shane, Audrey, you’re here too?"
"Brother Sterling? You’re here for a meal too?"
Quentin nodded with a smile: "Yes, got a table, waiting for Clarissa to come."
As they spoke, the waiter served food to Audrey’s table, and Quentin said, "You guys enjoy your meal, I won’t disturb you."
With that, Quentin turned and walked upstairs.
Audrey watched his back with suspicion; could it be that they hadn’t divorced?
Then why did Quentin always go to bars alone? And every time she saw him before, he had a gentle smile, but today, she could clearly see the melancholy in his eyes.
Soon after, Clarissa Morgan entered the restaurant, heavily disguised in sunglasses and a mask.
Without looking around, she headed straight upstairs.
Audrey’s intuition told her something was definitely up between the two of them.
Upstairs.
Clarissa pushed open a door at the end of the corridor, walked in, and looked at Quentin sitting alone at the table: "What brings you here?"
Quentin smiled briefly: "It’s been a while, how’s work treating you?"
Clarissa nodded: "Not much different from before, it’s all acting, quite similar."
"Don’t be too hard on yourself. You’re already amazing; no need to be so harsh."
After sitting down, Clarissa changed the topic: "You wanted to see me for a reason?"
"I just missed you. You said before that you wanted a divorce to take a break, but now I feel like you’re drifting further away."
Clarissa knew she couldn’t completely sever ties with Quentin yet. Not only did she have uses for him, but he also knew too many of her secrets. Any one of them could pull her from paradise back to earth in an instant.
So even if she really didn’t want anything more to do with him, she couldn’t show it too obviously. Occasionally having a meal together and keeping in touch was necessary.
