Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 339: Tricked into a Blind Date
Audrey Sutton grabbed another chicken wing, munching on it while saying, "I wasn’t trying to lose weight. It’s just that I mysteriously lost a bit while taking care of you in the hospital those few days."
Shane Warner: "Hmm, don’t lose weight, don’t lose it where you shouldn’t, it’s already small."
Suddenly, Audrey didn’t feel like her chicken wing was as tasty anymore. She immediately sat up straight and puffed out her chest, saying, "Big bust, no brain."
Shane Warner: "Then how come you aren’t particularly smart either?"
Audrey snorted and muttered, "Anyway, you just dislike me, this isn’t good, that isn’t good."
"Your cooking skills are decent."
He suddenly complimented her, and Audrey immediately smiled again, but before she could revel in it, Shane Warner added, "But still far from being as good as mine."
The smile on Audrey’s face vanished instantly. She swatted away the food he had picked up with his chopsticks and said, "Then you should cook in the future. I think what you make is tastier anyway."
Shane Warner: "It’s fine, your cooking is just about edible, I’m not picky."
Audrey: "Can’t you be a bit more honest? You clearly like it but have to nitpick and find faults in me."
Shane Warner smiled faintly without saying a word, realizing she had made some progress now.
In the past, she would get angry whenever he teased her, but now she knew he was just deliberately teasing, so she didn’t take it to heart.
The next day, Audrey got up early and went to the hospital with Shane Warner, as she had a class in the morning. After finishing the checkup, she went straight to school, not waiting for the results.
The morning class was her brother’s English class, and she almost barely made it in when the bell rang.
Stephen Sutton used to arrive at the classroom a minute or two before the bell rang, but today he uncharacteristically hadn’t shown up yet, which relieved Audrey, who was nearly late.
"Audrey!"
While Audrey was looking for an empty seat, she saw Phoebe King sitting in the front row next to the podium, waving at her.
"Over here, I saved you a seat," Phoebe King pointed to the empty seat next to her. Audrey smiled and quickly went over to sit down, "Sister Phoebe, when did you get back?"
Phoebe King: "I just got back last night. I thought you might skip class today."
Audrey chuckled and said, "I couldn’t skip my brother’s class even if I wanted to. Class is just one or two hours, but getting scolded would last for half a month. When my brother nags, it’s no easier than the tightened spell of Tang Monk."
Audrey thought she was quite humorous, but she didn’t see Sister Phoebe laughing. Instead, Sister Phoebe gave her a look, and Audrey followed Phoebe’s gaze to find Stephen Sutton standing by the podium.
From what she had just said, it was evident Stephen Sutton had heard. He glared at her, then glanced at Phoebe King with an unnoticeable look before opening his book to start the class.
Noticing Phoebe King’s rare attendance in his class again, Stephen Sutton felt a slight joy the moment he realized it, though he didn’t show it on his face.
If Phoebe King were observant enough, she might notice that in the past when Stephen Sutton noticed her in his classes, he wouldn’t be too pleased and would frown, but today, though he didn’t show happiness, neither did he show the usual disdain and impatience.
He seemed as if he didn’t care about Phoebe King’s presence, but in fact, seeing her appear again made him happy, a happiness even he hadn’t realized.
Phoebe King behaved quite well in his classes this time, although she didn’t pay much attention to his lecture, at least she didn’t disrupt or draw Audrey into side conversations.
During the break, his podium was surrounded by students again, but Phoebe King didn’t join in the fun; she was chatting with Audrey below.
"Sister Phoebe, is your grandmother feeling better?"
"Ah, don’t mention it, that old woman," Phoebe King complained, "She faked being sick just to trick me into coming back for a matchmaking session."
Stephen Sutton, who was discussing questions with students at the podium, overheard Phoebe King’s words. His gaze remained on the book in front of him, but his thoughts were elsewhere. The pen he was using to sketch on the book stopped, and he perked up his ears to listen to the conversation between Phoebe King and Audrey.
Due to the surrounding chatter, he couldn’t hear their conversation clearly, but he vaguely heard Phoebe King discussing her matchmaking prospects this time. Judging by her frowning expression, it seemed like she was complaining,
"Professor Sutton? Why’d you stop explaining?"
Reminded by a student, Stephen Sutton snapped back to reality and continued explaining to his students.
After finishing talking about her forced matchmaking experience, Phoebe King stole a glance at Stephen Sutton and asked Audrey, "Your brother hasn’t been won over by someone, has he?"
Audrey chuckled, "After my mom found out you liked him, she never brought up matchmaking for him again. Recently, she even asked if you were back. I reckon she wants to invite you over for dinner. My mom is quite good at matchmaking. Once my mom approves of you, you’re halfway to becoming the ’sister-in-law’."
Phoebe King giggled foolishly and sneaked a peek at Stephen Sutton, surprised to find their eyes meeting, but before she could respond, Stephen Sutton’s gaze quickly returned to the book in front of him.
The eye contact was so brief that Phoebe King thought she might have seen it wrong.
Suddenly, someone came over and tapped Phoebe King on the shoulder, and a girl said softly, "Hey, I remember you, you’re Professor Sutton’s girlfriend."
Phoebe King smiled, also recognizing the girl as Lana, someone she met that night in the faculty apartment.
Audrey found the girl familiar too, but not from class. It seemed like she met her somewhere else, yet she couldn’t recall where.
Lana just came over to say hi and then went to the bathroom with her friends.
During the second class, Phoebe King started to nod off.
With a finger on her chin, her head occasionally bobbed downward until, finally, it just banged onto the desk as she fell asleep.
Standing on the podium, Stephen Sutton naturally noticed; though Phoebe King wasn’t his student, as she was in his class, his students might gossip if he didn’t address it.
So Stephen Sutton continued speaking at a consistent pace, logically stringing knowledge points together as he lightly tapped on Phoebe King’s desk with a long ruler from the podium.
The sound transmission through the solid desk was effective; despite not tapping loudly, the sound startled Phoebe King awake instantly.
Stephen Sutton glanced at her without breaking his teaching rhythm, turning around to write notes on the whiteboard.
Audrey, seeing Phoebe King’s bewildered expression, covered her mouth to stifle a laugh. Immediately, she too received a cold stern look from Stephen Sutton, causing her to straighten up and stare at the blackboard attentively, feigning a well-behaved and serious demeanor.
