Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 324: The Scent of Perfume
Saturday.
Audrey Sutton woke up naturally, and Shane Warner had already left for work.
After waking up, Audrey didn’t get up immediately. Instead, she picked up her phone for a look.
It’s been three days, and Flora said Barry Barrett is still in a daze, occasionally crying whenever he thinks of Nolan Hawke.
Although Audrey anticipated this result, she still felt quite sorry for him.
Back when Barry and Nolan were together, everyone thought they were a good match. Even Audrey favored them before Nolan’s words came out.
Everyone thought they’d be able to attend Barry’s wedding celebration after his graduation.
Although it’s somewhat regrettable, it’s ultimately a wise decision for Barry to leave Nolan early considering he’s such a jerk.
Hazel Yates sent a message around eight something, inviting Audrey to come home for lunch.
Since Audrey got married, her visits home have become less frequent.
Audrey herself didn’t feel particularly homesick since she was always with the man she loves, but before she got married, her family treated her like a little princess. Everyone took a while to adapt to her absence and hoped she’d visit more often during holidays.
"Ding dong——"
A new message arrived, from Shane: Are you awake?
Audrey looked at the message, smiled, and lazily typed a reply while lying in bed: Yes.
Shane: Breakfast is in the microwave. Mom invited us for lunch. Wait for me at home; I’ll pick you up after work.
Audrey: Okay, what time do you get off work? Should I come to find you at the office later?
Shane: Don’t wander around, I’ll head home right after the meeting.
Audrey: Alright, I’ll have breakfast first then.
Shane: Yes, stay home and be good.
After chatting with Shane, Audrey finally got out of bed, freshened up, and then went downstairs for breakfast.
Seeing the nice weather outside, Audrey took the breakfast tray to the garden, sat on the swing that Shane made for her, and ate while soaking in the sun.
General approached her curiously, looking a bit greedy about what’s on her plate.
Pea also got used to playing in the yard, messing with a fallen leaf on the grass.
Audrey often feels like something is missing when Shane isn’t home. Touching her belly, she fantasizes that if they had a little baby, she might not feel lonely when Shane goes out to work.
She even suspects that maybe taking contraceptive pills those few times harmed her body, as lately, despite Shane being quite diligent, her belly shows no signs at all.
"Woof woof——" General suddenly barked twice towards the garden’s exterior.
Audrey turned around to look; the garden is enclosed with a two-meter high iron fence entwined with climbing roses. The branches and leaves obscure the view outside, so she could only vaguely see a dark silhouette walking away.
Since there’s a path there, sometimes pedestrians or villa employees pass by, Audrey assumed it was just someone walking by and didn’t pay any mind.
After seeing the person walk away, General quieted down too.
Around eleven, Shane drove back home.
Audrey tidied up, put on makeup, and lingered until nearly eleven-thirty before stepping out the door.
General always wants to join them on outings, so seeing them switch shoes at the entryway, General circled their legs. Audrey went back to get the dog leash, pulling General along into the back seat of the car.
Once the car started, Audrey sniffed the air, then wrinkled her nose and asked Shane, "What’s this smell?"
Shane glanced at her, chuckling, "Have you got a dog’s nose?"
Audrey stared at him, "Come clean, from whom did you pick up this perfume scent?"
Shane smiled, "It was the girl you saw at the office last time, my aunt’s daughter. She works at Warner Group now and I dropped her off earlier on my way here."
Upon hearing this explanation, Audrey looked "lucky escaped" and then turned to ask, "Is the perfume I gave you last time nearly finished? Do you like its scent? If so, I’ll buy you another bottle."
"As long as you like it, it’s you who’ll be smelling it anyway."
Audrey chuckled, leaning forward and drawing closer to say, "Do you like the scent of my bottle? If you do, I’ll keep using it."
Shane: "I like your scent, regardless of the brand or type of perfume."
Audrey playfully bumped him with her elbow, "Where’d you learn this? You’re becoming slicker by the day."
As they reached The Suttons’ gates, they encountered Franklin Sutton’s car.
The passenger window rolled down, and Laura Yates waved at Audrey who was by the window. Seeing Laura was here, Audrey happily smiled back.
As soon as the car parked, both women eagerly got out.
Due to the serial killer not being captured during this period, Franklin Sutton kept a close watch on Laura, not letting her roam freely.
Due to work, Franklin, who led the investigation team, naturally had no time for regular rides as he worked day and night, unlike Shane picking up Audrey for work.
But Laura had her own car, driving herself to and from work, and followed Franklin’s advice closely, minimizing his worries being his biggest help at work.
Therefore, besides commuting, Laura stayed indoors, not going out for meals or movies with colleagues. She felt cooped up indeed.
Due to their work-related bond, Audrey and Laura immediately had topics to chat about, walking arm-in-arm, laughing as they headed indoors, paying no mind to their partners.
Shane and Franklin got out of their cars, still showing no amicable expressions nor greeting each other, proceeding inside as if they were strangers at a public parking lot, securing their vehicles without a word.
All the brothers were at home except the third elder brother, creating a lively atmosphere.
Stephen Sutton sat on the sofa, watching the fourth and Six playing video games, while the fifth brother stood by the fish tank, feeding food from a box.
Hazel Yates emerged from the kitchen with a tray of fruit, "Audrey, Laura, you both arrived?"
"Mom."
"Auntie."
Hazel Yates: "Just sit wherever you like."
Seeing Audrey and Laura walk in, Stephen casually glanced outside the door, seemingly searching for something.
Hazel continued, "Initially I called Phoebe too, she said her grandmother is sick, she’s gone back to Serephina to see her."
Upon hearing that, Stephen redirected his gaze back to the TV screen at the battling game characters, deep in thought.
No wonder it’s been peaceful lately, she’s returned to Serephina.
