Chapter 316: Chapter 316: Save Me

When Stephen Sutton received the message from Audrey Sutton, he had just stepped out of the elevator.

Frowning, he stood dazed for a moment at the elevator door, but still chose to continue towards the apartment door.

He opened the door and stood at the entrance, placing the umbrella on the umbrella stand by the door.

As he lowered his head to change his shoes, his mind kept thinking about the recent events at school, the rumors he had basically heard, and his brother had also revealed a bit of information when he came home.

In short, the situation has indeed been quite dangerous recently.

Phoebe King coming to find him late at night wasn’t the first or second time, but he rarely paid her any attention. Sometimes she would just leave some late-night snacks at his door and leave.

He had already taken off his leather shoes, and his feet were in slippers, but Stephen Sutton paused for two seconds, took a deep breath, still couldn’t relax, so he stuffed his feet back into his leather shoes, grabbed his umbrella and door keys, and turned to go out again.

...

The footsteps behind her that she couldn’t shake off were agitating Phoebe King’s nerves, as if the rain had intensified, and the pitter-patter of raindrops rushed into her ears, making Phoebe feel even more irritable.

She was wearing a pair of high-heeled sandals, and because of the hurried steps and the increasing rain, both her shoes and feet were soaked.

Every time she came to see Stephen Sutton, she would dress up carefully, even though she might not necessarily see him.

Today, she was wearing a wine-red bodycon dress, which restricted her steps.

She even wondered if she was too beautifully dressed and was targeted by a pervert?

Hearing the footsteps behind her quicken, Phoebe already fantasized about whether the person behind her was holding a knife and rushing towards her.

The more she thought, the more frightened she became, and without caring, she began to jog.

What scared her even more was that the person behind seemed to start running too. She glanced back hurriedly and saw that person was also holding an umbrella; she couldn’t see their appearance clearly, or even if it was a man or a woman, only sure that the person was indeed chasing her.

Phoebe King, while running, fumbled out her phone from her pocket, hesitating whether to call Stephen Sutton or the police.

Calling the police, if that person was really a murderer, by the time the police came, it might just be to collect her corpse; Stephen Sutton’s place was just a few hundred meters away, he could appear quickly, but she wasn’t certain he would pick up her call.

Amidst the hesitation and dilemma, she saw a tall figure appear under the streetlight ahead.

The person was holding an umbrella, and she didn’t make out who it was at first glance, but at this moment, it didn’t matter who it was as long as it was a person.

"Help me!" she shouted, a cry for help that instinctively came out of her mind.

Her footsteps had a target as she ran quickly towards that person, and only when she got closer did she realize that her lifesaver was indeed the man she was looking for.

In an instant, Stephen Sutton’s image in her mind grew even more heroic.

Ignoring Stephen Sutton’s usual disdain for her, Phoebe hurried over, urgently pointing to the person behind who hadn’t disappeared: "Someone is following me!"

Stephen Sutton didn’t immediately turn and walk away with Phoebe; instead, he scrutinized the person following Phoebe.

If it was really a criminal, hearing Phoebe’s cry for help and then seeing someone appear ahead, they would have long escaped down the side path, but the person just stood there with an umbrella, staring at them.

It was a girl; her expression of fear was as intense as Phoebe’s.

"Professor Sutton?" The girl recognized Stephen Sutton, almost breaking down into tears.

Looking at the girl, Stephen Sutton asked in confusion, "Lana? Why are you out here so late?"

The girl named Lana was trembling as she spoke: "I just finished class, my dad couldn’t pick me up tonight, so he told me to stay at my Aunt’s here."

Seeing that the other person was a girl, Phoebe wasn’t as scared as before, and she questioned Lana: "Then why were you following me?"

Lana hastily explained: "I wasn’t following you, I was just scared. Recently, hasn’t it been said that there’s a criminal at large? I saw a person up front and wanted to follow for company, in case something happened so I could call for help too. You suddenly started running; I thought something happened, so I hurried and followed."

Upon hearing it was a misunderstanding, Phoebe finally breathed a sigh of relief and felt slightly embarrassed for the scare she just had.

Lana’s aunt lived in the building next to the one where Stephen Sutton lived, so Stephen first escorted Lana there.

Standing by the elevator waiting for it to arrive, Lana smiled and said, "Thank you, Professor Sutton."

After speaking, Lana looked over Phoebe, noting her sexy and avant-garde attire and the large tattoo on her arm, clearly not a student. Lana then joked to Stephen Sutton, "Professor Sutton, is this sister your girlfriend?"

Before Stephen Sutton could respond, Lana looked at Phoebe again and said, "You’re really pretty, sister."

Phoebe replied, "Such a sweet talker, I’ll invite you to my wedding then."

The elevator arrived on the first floor, and Lana entered the elevator, playfully placing her finger on her lips towards Phoebe, indicating a hush gesture, saying: "I’ll keep your secret."

Intentionally leaning closer to Stephen Sutton, Phoebe waved her hand sweetly at Lana.

Once the elevator doors closed, seeing Stephen Sutton turning back, Phoebe reacted, jogged a few steps, and hurriedly caught up.

As they stepped out, she didn’t bother opening her own umbrella, she just squeezed under Stephen Sutton’s umbrella, clinging to the arm holding the umbrella, disregarding his cold expression, saying: "I was really scared, I thought how unlucky could I be to run into the murderer."

Stephen coldly replied: "I thought you weren’t afraid of dying, coming out so late at night."

Phoebe said: "I was already at the door, Audrey just told me about these things. But how come you came out just now? Did Audrey tell you, and you were worried something happened to me, so you came down to meet me?"

Stephen Sutton expressionlessly stared ahead and said: "Came down to buy something."

Phoebe watched as he walked straight into the building and said: "Then you haven’t bought your things, what are you buying? I’ll go with you."

Stephen Sutton put away his umbrella while extracting his arm from Phoebe’s grip, walking towards the building: "Just checked, that supermarket is closed."

"...Oh." Phoebe followed him to the elevator door, the elevator had just stopped at the first floor, as he pressed the button, the door opened.

He entered, and Phoebe quickly followed in.

Stephen Sutton didn’t immediately press the floor button; instead, he gave a sidelong glance at Phoebe: "Still not going back, are you planning to catch the murderer later?"

Phoebe, still feeling anxious, reached over him and pressed the floor where he lived, closing the elevator door, and only after the elevator began to rise, she replied: "I didn’t drive here, I’m too scared to go back now."

Stephen Sutton: "Call your boyfriend to pick you up."
