Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 313: Horseback Riding
Clarissa Morgan stood not far away, watching the two people taking selfies with their phones.
The expression in her eyes became unpredictable.
The Shane Warner she remembered was not someone who would obediently participate in taking selfies with others; he didn’t like photos.
Yet, this contrast proved how much he pampered Audrey Sutton.
Clarissa Morgan felt resentful inside; she thought that she should be the one enjoying all of this.
When mounting the horse, Shane Warner was always careful to protect Audrey Sutton, afraid she might fall. He confirmed she was sitting stably, adjusted to the height of the horse, and shared some horseback riding tips, making sitting on the horse much easier.
After explaining, he mounted his horse, leading Audrey Sutton’s horse’s reins slowly out of the stable.
Clarissa Morgan secretly observed everything. In fact, Quentin Sterling was no less attentive and considerate to her than Shane Warner was to Audrey Sutton, but the person beside her was not who she wanted deep down, and too much concern couldn’t penetrate her heart.
The afternoon sun was warm and gentle, with a slight breeze while riding on horseback.
Shane Warner was leading Audrey Sutton’s horse a horse-length ahead, strolling lazily around the paddock.
"How do you know everything? I see you so busy every day; where do you find the time to learn so much?"
Shane Warner glanced back at her and said, "I was exposed to all of this during school. Before my brother passed away, my grandfather was always nurturing him. He was busier, and it was only after he passed that I started to get busy."
"Oh..." Mentioning his brother, Audrey Sutton didn’t know how to continue the topic, always afraid of accidentally touching a sensitive spot or a wound in his heart.
On his hand, besides their wedding ring, he always wore his brother’s silver ring, showing the constant presence of his brother in his thoughts.
His family situation was quite complex, and during his lifetime, his brother was probably the only source of familial warmth for him. His brother’s death brought significant changes and impacts to his life.
She had seen some of his school photos, where he used to smile a lot in pictures, giving off the vibe of a sunny big boy.
His current mature demeanor probably had a lot to do with his brother’s passing.
Behind them came the sound of a running horse, not very fast because there were others on the paddock, so Audrey Sutton didn’t turn around to check.
It wasn’t until she saw Clarissa Morgan riding up to Shane Warner’s side that her brow furrowed.
From behind came Quentin Sterling’s anxious call: "Clarissa, slow down."
Clarissa Morgan didn’t reply, glanced back at Audrey Sutton, and said to Shane Warner, "Warner, are you just going to walk slowly like this? Isn’t it boring not to run a bit when horse riding? I just learned, and I can run while riding. You shouldn’t be too protective of little Audrey; she needs to open up to learn new things."
Shane Warner: "I’m just letting her get accustomed to it first."
Audrey Sutton: "I think riding slowly and basking in the sun feels nice."
Quentin Sterling also caught up, gesturing ahead, "There’s a grove over there with a nice view. Let’s ride over and take a break before coming back."
Shane Warner nodded, "You guys go ahead first; we’ll catch up later."
Clarissa Morgan: "Warner, you should teach little Audrey to ride, it’s quite simple."
Saying so, Clarissa Morgan sped up again, as if demonstrating to Audrey Sutton, and Quentin Sterling chased after her worriedly.
Audrey Sutton watched them run off and muttered defiantly, "What’s so hard about running?"
She held the reins tightly, mimicking what she’d seen on TV, and shouted, "Giddy up!"
Shane Warner: "..."
Awkwardly, the horse didn’t react at all and even stopped to munch on the roadside grass.
As the horse lowered its head, its body tilted forward, making Audrey Sutton feel unsteady and let out a low cry in surprise.
Shane Warner had anticipated this and chose a double saddle for his horse.
He swung his long leg over and easily dismounted.
Then he approached Audrey Sutton’s horse, reaching out to hold her.
"What are you doing?" Audrey Sutton guessed his intention but didn’t intend to dismount.
"Let me ride with you."
"No, I want to ride on my own." Although she really wanted to sit in front of Shane Warner, nestled safely in his arms while enjoying the scenery.
But she didn’t want Clarissa Morgan to look down on her; if Clarissa could learn, so could she. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Don’t be stubborn, falling off isn’t a small matter."
"I’m not being stubborn, just teach me, and I’ll ride on my own."
Shane Warner stared at her for two seconds, seemingly giving her time to reconsider.
Seeing her still unwilling to give him her hand or dismount, Shane Warner withdrew his hand and lightly pressed her ankle down, saying, "Keep your feet steady, hold the reins tightly, pull left to go left, right to go right. To stop, pull the reins with both hands simultaneously, like this."
"And then?"
Shane Warner: "Nudge the horse’s belly softly with your feet."
Audrey Sutton followed his instructions, and the horse slowly began to move forward.
"Ah!" Audrey Sutton wasn’t mentally prepared and momentarily couldn’t adjust.
Shane Warner mounted his horse and said to her, "Keep your feet steady and hold tight."
Then she heard her own laughter beside her ears, clearly having adjusted to the horse’s pace and feeling happy, thrilled to have learned a new skill.
Shane Warner quickly caught up to her, maintaining a steady speed, teaching her as they rode.
Audrey Sutton increased the strength of her kicks, and the horse quickened its pace.
Clarissa Morgan and Quentin Sterling were evidently waiting for them up ahead and soon were caught up with.
"Audrey learns really fast, but you two mustn’t get too careless; ride a bit slower," Quentin Sterling advised them like an elder brother.
Audrey Sutton secretly gave Clarissa Morgan a proud look, as if responding to Clarissa’s earlier covert taunting of her fearfulness.
Clarissa Morgan kicked her heels hard and shook the reins vigorously, shouting, "Giddy up!"
The horse sped forward, and Quentin Sterling chased after her helplessly, "Clarissa, slow down!"
Audrey Sutton was clearly competing with Clarissa Morgan in secret, applying more force with her foot, causing her horse to gallop faster, with Shane Warner closely following, consistently reminding her of the tips to prevent falling.
But Audrey Sutton was evidently growing confident, starting to find him wordy, focusing on quickly overtaking Clarissa Morgan.
Clarissa Morgan looked back and saw Audrey Sutton catching up, a satisfied smile appearing on her lips.
Seeing Quentin Sterling almost parallel with her, she discreetly unfastened the light purple jacket tied around her waist.
The jacket fell with the speed of the wind, drifting backward a short distance, just perfectly landing in front of Audrey Sutton’s horse...
