Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 299: You Need to Do Something About Your Sister-in-Law
Faye Xavier didn’t dare to make things up, fearing that her story wouldn’t match with Shane Warner’s, so she chose the answer that would never be wrong.
Audrey Sutton had no suspicion of Faye Xavier. After seeing Faye’s response, she said, "I think he’s hiding something from me. He refuses to tell me anything and won’t let me call the police. So I want to know what happened after I left?"
Upon hearing the words "call the police," Faye Xavier broke into a cold sweat and thought for a moment before replying: Sister-in-law, there’s no need to worry about this matter, Master Shane has got it handled.
Seeing that Faye Xavier’s answer was similar to Shane Warner’s, Audrey Sutton realized that Faye was indeed Shane Warner’s person and had probably been instructed on how to deal with her.
But dealing with Faye Xavier was easier than dealing with Shane Warner, so Audrey Sutton deliberately tried to scare Faye by saying: You better explain everything to me carefully, or I’ll call the police to investigate.
As soon as Faye Xavier saw that, she immediately opened Shane Warner’s chat page and sent a screenshot of her chat with Audrey Sutton: Master Shane, you need to handle the sister-in-law!
"Ding-dong"—Shane Warner glanced at the screen of his phone lighting up on the table, finished typing the line he was working on, and then picked up the phone to check.
When he saw the message from Faye Xavier, Shane Warner furrowed his brow and turned his head to look at Audrey Sutton.
Audrey, hiding under the covers, had no idea her little trick had been betrayed. Seeing no reply from Faye, she added: My second brother is a policeman, I just need to message him and he can help me investigate immediately!
Faye Xavier twitched the corner of her mouth. Just then, the elevator reached her floor and, as the doors opened, she ran into Morgan Quinn passing by.
Morgan Quinn, seeing Faye approach, hurriedly asked, "How’s sister-in-law doing?"
Faye rolled her eyes and handed the phone screen to Morgan Quinn: "Your sister-in-law wants to report you to the police, you kidnapper!"
Morgan Quinn: "Did you freaking throw me under the bus?"
Faye Xavier: "Am I that kind of person?"
Morgan Quinn looked at her suspiciously and asked, "So, what did Master Shane say?"
Faye Xavier sneered, imitating Shane Warner’s tone to Morgan Quinn: "Your bonus is gone."
Morgan Quinn: "???"
Seeing Morgan Quinn’s reaction, Faye Xavier felt a bit better inside.
Morgan Quinn followed Faye Xavier, cursing as they walked: "I told you not to go overboard. Now look, you’ve gotten yourself into a mess."
Faye Xavier: "We came up with this idea together, don’t start the blame game now. My bonus is gone too."
"Every day it’s some silly drama, nothing good happens when I’m with you."
The two of them cursed away, neither wanting to take the blame. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Meanwhile, under the quilt, Audrey Sutton was puzzled as to why Faye Xavier hadn’t replied.
Suddenly, she felt the space behind her sink a bit. When she turned to look, Shane Warner’s chest was right in front of her eyes. Before she could react, he snatched the phone out of her hand.
"You’ve got quite a few tricks up your sleeve." Shane Warner looked through her chat with Faye Xavier.
Besides today’s messages, he checked the previous chat history—all related to him.
On being discovered, Audrey Sutton decided not to keep secrets from him and boldly said, "Who told you not to tell me?"
Shane Warner tossed the phone back at her, chuckled, and said, "Who pays Faye’s salary, anyway? You think she listens to you?"
"So now I suspect that he’s covering for your wrongdoing outside!"
"I think that cup of milk tea from earlier filled your head again."
Audrey muttered, "What kind of boss has what kind of subordinates!"
Shane Warner: "Then tell me why such a smart husband would have such a stupid wife?"
Audrey Sutton sardonically blurted out, "Shows we’re not meant for each other."
"Admitting you’re stupid?"
Audrey Sutton coldly snorted and brought the topic back: "You see the messages, I wasn’t just scaring Faye Xavier. If you don’t explain things clearly, I’ll have my brother look into it."
"Fine, let’s explain everything clearly then." So saying, Shane Warner stood up.
Audrey Sutton sat up on the bed, looking at him puzzled.
She watched as he walked back to the desk, picked up the phone on the table, and returned.
Audrey thought he was going to show her some documents and explain everything clearly to her.
Shane Warner brought back the phone, sat down beside Audrey, and put the phone in front of her. He opened the chat with Faye Xavier, scrolled up a bit, and opened a file.
It was a voice recording file.
Audrey Sutton watched as he pressed the play button, and she perked up to listen carefully.
"That bastard Shane Warner couldn’t care less if I died; he has a slew of mistresses outside..."
On hearing the beginning, Audrey Sutton’s body stiffened.
This... wasn’t it her own voice?
The recording continued playing, and Audrey listened to the majority of it before she remembered these were things she said in the car to the kidnapper.
Aside from defaming Shane Warner for having concubines everywhere, naturally, it included her talking about splitting Shane Warner’s estate with the kidnapper.
After listening to the recording, Audrey Sutton’s previous arrogance completely vanished. She guiltily glanced at Shane Warner.
Shane Warner turned off the phone, asking her with a wry smile, "Honey, want to explain the estate-splitting talk?"
Audrey Sutton pursed her lips and stammered, "...It was just a stalling tactic, just nonsense. Who tells the truth to kidnappers anyway?"
Shane Warner silently smiled, staring at her.
His stare made Audrey Sutton’s scalp tingle.
"...They were just tempted by your estate and didn’t harm me. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have a wife now!"
"Should I commend you for being so wise in a crisis?"
Audrey Sutton immediately nodded, then hesitated, sensing something amiss: "How did you get this recording?"
She seemed to recall that he opened the chat with Faye Xavier a moment ago, and the recording came from Faye. But why did Faye have this recording?
Logically, the only person who could have heard this would have been the kidnapper in the car.
"What’s the date today?" Shane Warner asked her.
Audrey Sutton was stunned and quickly recalled numerous anniversaries in her mind. Her birthday wasn’t this month, neither was Shane Warner’s. They got married in June, last year around this time they didn’t even know each other. What day could it be?
Seeing her dazed expression, Shane Warner said, "Check your calendar."
Audrey picked up her phone, checked the calendar, and said, "April Fools’ Day?"
Shane Warner chuckled, got up, and returned to his desk.
Audrey Sutton threw off the covers and chased after him: "So you’re saying the kidnapping was a setup by you guys? You teamed up to prank me, right?"
Shane Warner, sitting on the chair, pulled her into his arms: "If I said I didn’t know at first, would you believe me?"
